Book Like a Song of Fire and Ice

I 100% recommend James Barclay's Chronicles of the Raven. Six books so far, with a seventh and final book on the way. It's a little more fantasy than A Song of Ice and Fire, with things like elves and magic, but in my opinion it's nearly as good.

Definitely second the recs for Patrick Rothfuss's "Name of the Wind." If you want to try something just as complex with political intrigue and great characterization, you must try the Dune prequel books by Kevin J. Anderson. Although more sci-Fi than fantasy, they are just as intense.

Wheel of Time starts out not too bad, gets better, then drops into an excruciating page turner. Most people stop after book 7. I'm trying, but...it's rough.

I tried getting through the first book of Malazan, but can't seem to do it. ASOIAF has ruined everything.

first book of MBotF was great, although a level or two under the rest of the series I read so far... most rattling experience for me was the Chain of Dogs in Deadhouse gates... well, and maybe the conflagration of Y'Ghatan now in The Bonehunters

New to group. Not sure how I feel about WoT series sometimes I like other times I don't. On 3rd book only time will tell. is a good series.
