Good job so far Terri and Aussie Rick.

Tasha Terri, I really liked reading your thoughts on Fick! Very thought-provoking and interesting!

Silvana (silvaubrey) Hmm. Could not get a copy of this book in local stores. I did however own Generation Kill by Evan Wright by Evan Wright . Can I still join the discussion?

Tasha Of course Silvana! Those of us who read One Bullet Away will keep coming back to discuss it with whomever keeps talking and reading about it, I'm sure of it! Enjoy the book and let us know what you think.

Edit: oh I see you mean you couldn't get One Bullet Away. Did you read Generation Kill? I'm sure those on this thread would discuss that one with you too!

Terri Hi Silvana,
Yes, we will definitely come back and talk to you about Generation Kill if you want to post your thoughts here! Absolutely! :-)

The one thing I will advise on Gen Kill is stick with it. For the first couple chapters you may feel that nothing much is happening...and then whammo!...the action starts and goes for the rest of the book.

Tasha I agree with Terri! Stick with the first few chapters, it is definitely worth it!

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) So far this has been an excellent discussion area and I think that Terri has done a great job keeping it going along with Tasha's great comments, well done to you both.

Terri *takes a bow* well thankye, kind sir. :-)

Silvana (silvaubrey) Awesome, thanks for the replies. Will try to finish by the end of next week! Hope that's not too late ;D
PS: I am a fan of Fick only based on his depiction in the TV series.

message 110: by Terri (new) - rated it 5 stars

Terri Oh, so you've seen the tv series? Well, they are pretty close, the book and the mini series, but you will pick up on a few differences no doubt.

Fick was my favourite from the mini series too. Colbert and Fick actually:-)

Tasha Thanks Aussie Rick! It has been a fun discussion thread. :)

Fick was a favorite of mine as well in the GK book and series. That is why I was so interested in reading a personal account of his with One Bullet Away. In GK, I really liked Colbert's calmness so he was a favorite of mine as well. In the mini-series, I thought the actor portraying Persons did a phenomenal job! I didn't appreciate Person's contributions to the interactions in the humvee (and Iraq) as much in the book as I did in the mini series. I think if I was to reread the book, I'd enjoy Persons more now too.

Tasha Silvana, I also found that Fick reminded me of Winters. :)

I'm glad you liked GK! I see you gave it 5 stars, I'll be over to read your review today. It is a long one so I'll have to find some time today to settle in and read it ;)

Silvana, no self promotion even your reviews. Sorry we have to be consistent with everyone.

Folks, here are Silvana's comment:

Ok, finished GK.

I absolutely love the way Wright writes. So readable. He even made fun of himself a couple of times, good sport.

As for Fick, his portrayal kinda reminds me of the recently passed Richard Winters from by Stephen E. Ambrose. Respected, quiet, highly capable yet managed to keep a distance with the enlisted men even though he always smile when talking about them (when not in front of them).

Still waiting for my copy of One Bullet Away. Five days to go.

Also folks, don't forget to use the spoiler goodreads tool even when you have finished the book and mark where you are and what you are talking about: chapter for example.

As far as Generation Kill and discussion of it on this thread; we try to keep things straight here so I will set up a separate thread for it. Discuss this on the Buddy Reads discussion thread.

Terri That was completely my fault that Silvana got back to us with her views on Generation Kill on this thread.

I didn't realise it was off topic to talk about Generation Kill here.
I thought because the books One Bullet Away and Generation Kill were linked, that it would be okay for Silvana to post a message here once she finished GK. And in the lead up to her then going onto One Bullet Away.

Sorry about the mix up everyone. :-(

It makes it hard to keep things straight to start a discussion on another book's single thread. I will set up a single thread for Generation Kill if it is needed.
