THE OED.

message 754: by [deleted user] (new)

You know you're a writer if, when something important or dramatic happens in your life and you write a mental narrative of it in your head(yes. I do this.).

Kiernan Malik (kiernann) You know you are a writer when you get excited about a new idea for a book.
When your parents have to drag you off of writing sites.
When your journal is a mess of ideas and thoughts.

message 757: by [deleted user] (new)

Sydney (sydeli) | 145 comments *you're

You know you're a writer if your OTP is two characters from one of your pieces.
You know you're a writer if you constantly have another world inside your head.
You know you're a writer if you have cried over your characters.

You know you're a writer when you want to write even on Christmas when you should be socializing ...

message 764: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments ENOUGH. TOO TRUE.

message 765: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments You know you're a writer when you're too moody to socialize because the Muses won't bless you.

message 766: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments Right now I want to slap Thalia. I'm writing "humor" on a rainy day.

message 767: by Hope (new)

Hope You know you're a writer if you spend hours thinking up one short scene for a story, trying to get it right before writing it down.

message 768: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments Sublte hint?

message 769: by Hope (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments You know you're a writer if you get on the computer thinking, "I'm going to write a whole chapter! I'm serious!" and then you spend the next hour on the internet.

:/

You know you're a writer when you set ridiculous goals for yourself, like "Yeah I can totally write 5000 words a day for the next two weeks." lolololol. ... *Headdesk*

message 774: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments More like 500 words a day...trololololol....

Timothy [Grammar Führer] wrote: "More like 500 words a day...trololololol...."

That's a more realistic goal, at least. Meh heh.
I'm just hoping to finish the first draft of my book in the next like, two weeks ... And if I'm going to do that I'm going to have to write like a billion words a day. Urgh.

message 777: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Btw, I'll be able to start reading your novel Friday or Saturday. I'm trying to plow through the psychedelic mess that is Going Bovine, then I'll get to your book.

message 778: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (booksteainsanity) | 955 comments You know you're a writer because only you would look up your MC's name, to find out that someone actually has that name. O.O

message 779: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments Definitely, and I have a knack for using really popular names.

Okay, cool.
Ahh I love Going Bovine.

message 781: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Not loving it so far...I hate this main character. I kinda cheered when I found out he was gonna die...that means it's time for some paradigm shifts.

Brigid ✩ | 11973 comments Mod
It's not for everyone. I'm a big fan of absurdism and fantasy realism, etc. So yeah. And I loved Cameron but I can see how one could find him unlikable.

message 783: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments To the author's credit, the voice is fantastic. Not once does she slip out of Cameron's sarcastic tone.

In fact, if John Green rewrote the Percy Jackson series, it would read a lot like this.

message 784: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments I don't want that. At all.

I tried reading Going Bovine a looong time ago when I first shifted from reading J Fiction to YA Fiction and regular fiction and I hated it. But I'm going to try again now that I'm more well read and see if I like it.

message 786: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Why do you not want that, Jo?

Haha yeahhh probably not the best first YA book to read. There's a lot of ... interesting stuff in it. XD

Yeah, I used to be really conservative in my reading choices. If there was a lot of swearing or an implied sex scene I would be all OH SNAP THIS IS A SCANDALOUS BOOK GET IT OUT OF MY SIGHT.

message 789: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments I do something similar.

message 790: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments I'm still that way. I still sorta cringe if there's even a "damn" or "hell." But then I'm like, "Keeeeeep reading."

Going Bovine isn't changing my life yet, though.

message 791: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
I've gotten a lot less careful about what I read for a lot of reasons.

message 792: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments I don't care the least for swearing, but will skip a looot over a sex scene.

message 793: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments That's how I am these days. Whenever I pick up a book, I ask around to see if there's any sex in it, then give the book to the person who knows and have them tape the pages together.

message 794: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments XD Appropriare response. I mean, I just don't want that in my head.

message 795: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Exactly.

I wanted to read Fifty Shades of Gray before I knew what it was about. When my friend told me, I was like, "Okay...just tape together the naughty pages."

As a joke, he brought it over to my house with two big metal vices clamping it shut.
