You know you're a writer if--oh, crap. Writer's block. I'm going to have to come back to this later.

message 552: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments ...and then you get a new idea and never come back to it.

Stupid curse of the fresh idea.

message 554: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments I'm totally having that happen to me right now. The distracting shiny new idea, that is. I still feel inspired to write the one I'm writing now, though, so I'm pushing the new shiny out of my mind for a while.

message 555: by [deleted user] (new)

I get the curse of the shiny new idea, quickly accompanied by the curse of "This has no plot, so why continue".

message 556: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
*nods* Yeah, I definitely have a combination of both of those things quite often.

Oh, god. That is awful. It kills most of my stories.
I also have the curse of 'I have to get to the fun part NOW' which causes my 'novels' to end up climaxing at like 10,000 words. It's frustrating. Luckily, that's not actually happening with this one.

YES SAME HERE. I hate hate hate filler and build-up and all that.

message 559: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments I'm just like, Oh, so I just wrote the opening scene? This means that I can't write the climax yet? Wut? o.O

message 560: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
What do you mean people need time to get attached to the characters? That's ridiculous!

message 561: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments I have to describe things? It can't just be a bunch of dialogue? What?

message 562: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Things are generally supposed to happen in a logical order? Why?

message 563: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments A 30-page YA novel won't get published?

message 564: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Why is 5 chapters not an acceptable amount?

message 565: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments My chapters should be more than a single paragraph?!?

PyroLily ~Qui scribit bis legit~ (pyrolily) | 290 comments Yeah, writing can be really slow, expecially when you're trying to make yourself learn how to write right handed (I'm a lefty)

message 567: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments Keyboards FTW.

PyroLily ~Qui scribit bis legit~ (pyrolily) | 290 comments Me is confused

TYPEWRITERS. ALWAYS.

PyroLily ~Qui scribit bis legit~ (pyrolily) | 290 comments Still confused.

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
He's saying that keyboards aren't right or left-handed.

PyroLily ~Qui scribit bis legit~ (pyrolily) | 290 comments ...I was talking about hand wrighting. With a pen.

message 573: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
*nods* He was just saying that when you use a keyboard, that problem doesn't exist, I'm pretty sure.

PyroLily ~Qui scribit bis legit~ (pyrolily) | 290 comments True, but I can't take my computer everywhere and whatnot.

message 575: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod

You know you're a writer when you stayed up til 1 AM last night picking quotes out of your own book because it's fun ... DANG IT, ACACIA. YOU GOT ME ADDICTED.

*GASP* YOU CONCEITED PERSON.
How dare you think you're quote worthy?
(I mean, maybe because you... are. But... yeah. That sounds like a lot of fun. xD)

Colby, leave the poor girl alone and let her write by hand in peace! ;)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments You're a writer when you want a typewriter because it's tiring to write so much by hand and it's tiring for your eyes to watch that computer screen so much.

message 583: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Typewriters are very frustrating machines at times, but I think they're worth it.

I still need more ink for mine. *grumbles*

message 584: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments I WANT ONE. Ink may be frustrating, but at least it isn't tiring.

message 585: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Eh, I don't think if you're looking for something "less tiring" a typewriter will be the best thing for you. The keys stick sometimes, you have to type slowly or you'll get ahead of yourself. You have to constantly be watching the margins. You have to take the paper out and put new paper in. It's actually a lot of work.

However, if you're into the magic of things that are older and love the sound of keys clicking and the way that a typewritten page looks, they can be magical.

If you want one, they have some pretty cheap old typewriters online, and when I was still looking for one, I found some new ones that are under $70, I think.

message 586: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments Just the fact that I love "The Typewriter" by Telemann says it all. And I've used the typewriter once before. It's be wonderful.

message 587: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
They really are. :3 I have my mom's from college so it's sentimental too, which is always fun.

message 588: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments The one I've used before is this typewriter my great aunt has.

I've never heard that song before, but it sounds fabulous.

message 592: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments I think I have a typwriter in my basement...*goes on a hunt* although I would probably never write on that, because A) You waste ink even if what you write sucks, B) I would have to write it twice to post it online, and C) It would be infinitely more frustrating than computer.
But I still want the sense of nostalgia...

I don't think I'm very quote-worthy, actually. It's very difficult finding quotes that I actually like. lol. It's just that, Acacia did this cool thing where she made this like, collage of quotes from her books and I was like, "I WANNA DO THAT." So, that's what I'm doing. It's just for fun. :P

On the subject of typewriters... I got one very recently. My friend gave it to me because he didn't want it for some reason. I just need to buy a ribbon for it... Yaaay.

I've never had a decent quote from my writing. XP
