I dont think they could do the movie justice but for fun who would you cast as the characters?

I cant think of a Roland, no one would do him right maybe a 1960's Clint Eastwood, Jake the youngest son on the showtime series Weeds,How bout Edward Norton as Eddie and Susannah id have to think about
Bruce Campbell as Roland...if he can just keep that smirk off of his face that he usually has in all of his other roles...:)Halle Berry as Susannah
Jake would be have to be a newcomer...I would have said Haley Joel Osment a few years ago.

I just dont picture George Clooney as Roland he would have to be a little more rugged!Although I think Clooney is a good actor
Aside from 60's Clint Eastwood, I'd probably go with Hugh Jackman as Roland. He's weathered-looking enough to pull it off. Sam Elliot HAS to play Eldred Jonas. No preference on most of the rest of the characters although I like Ed Norton as Eddie.
hehe mole it was a joke :D though clooney has been good in a few movies...but knowing hollywood they would put somebody 'wrong' for the charactor

I agree Dan Sam Elliot awesome choice and Hugh Jackman could pull it off never thought of that!And Luke Wilson would look the part but he may be to type cast as a comedy actor
I don't think they can do it justice and for that reason it shouldn't be made. I read King sold the rights to 'talk' about making a film of the Dark Tower for $19 to Lost co-creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof.
I don't know about you guys, but I thought 'Lost' was a load of absolute unrealistic garbage. Give me Twin Peaks for my 'cult tv' viewing any day.
One more thing, how on earth are they going to explain all the references to King's previous books? Also, the fact of King's appearance??? The whole tale relies a lot on BOOKS and READING.
I can see that so much will be omitted from the story to make it into a film. Which is inevitable really.
I for one can't wait to play the Dark Tower videogame, own the Dark Tower lunch box and buy the Dark Tower action figures.
The Tower will always stand in my imagination as how I want it to be. Not some hollywood diluted CGI interpretation.

Viggo as Roland, huh? Never thought of that, but I loved how he portrayed Aragorn in the LOTR films. So I could see it.

I was thinking maybe Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer on Lost. His character is a bit moody and dark. If they don't want to go the way of a huge name like Viggo (who I would definitely vote for!), that may be a possibility.
Knowing films today and the way they love to butcher my favorite books, Will Smith would be cast as Roland. In my world, I think Tom Sizemore would be cool for Roland.

Eddie, my first thought is Adam Sandler... that probably wouldnt work, though he is a good actor
With that said, i dont really think a movie should be made. They could never do it justice. Might be good movies for people who havent read them, but they wouldnt get the point. And, for those who have, it would be horrible and disappointing.
I just recently started thinking Ashton Kutcher might pull off Eddie. He's got the sarcastic humor down pat - I'm not sure if he could pull of the serious part but I think so.What about Oy? How do you think they could do Oy? There are some smart dogs like Benji but I see Oy as more raccoon-like or something.

Lisa, Viggo as Roland is brilliant! As much as I don't think a movie, or even a series of movies, could do justice to Dark Tower, I think Viggo would make the perfect Roland :) He's rugged, good looking, and dark enough, not to mention a fantastic actor! Maybe Josh Hartnett as Eddie? I can't think of any young actors off the top of my head, but Christian Bale when he was still a child actor would've been phenomenal (remember Empire of the Sun?).
Brody would have to beef up significantly to approach the role-- a reverse Christian Bale move, so to speak. :)

Clint Eastwood in his earlier years would have been perfect but if we're looking for modern day I'd say Hugh Jackman, Clive Owen, or Viggo Mortensen would all be good as Roland, Josh Holloway just seems too young (definately rugged enough though) Rosario Dawson as Suzanne, I think Justin Long should play Eddie and I can't think of a kid to play Jake.
I think that they wouldn't be able to do the book justice if they made a movie but it's fun to imagine who you envision would play the characters.
I wasn't going to post in this one because I don't care much for movies and I certainly hope they don't try to do the Dark Tower…but this morning I had an epiphany: Steve Buscemi would make a wonderful Eddie. Now wait! Before you gag, think it over! Remember Eddie starts out as a junkie, albeit a junkie with big brass balls. Over time, he becomes a bad-ass gunslinger, and yet he can still come out with a line funny enough to make you pee your pants. I can totally see Buscemi doing all those things. If they cast him, I might even watch it.
Thanks, Lisa! I figure most people would want Eddie to be better-looking, but I'd just hope they get his personality right. Maybe they can cast a hottie for Cuthbert. :)
I still think Justin Long would make a good Eddie, he's funny and kinda goofy and skinny enough to be on drugs lol :)
I have the utmost respect for Steve Buscemi, he's a great actor but I dont see him as Eddie I just thought Ed Furlong as Eddie he looks strung out all the time but I still think Ed Norton would be awesome
Joseph Gordon Levitt would be my Eddie. If you've seen The Lookout you know he can do damaged, and if you've seen Brick you know he can be badass. Russell Crowe for Roland.

Some time ago there were also talks about a movie version of The Dark Tower by J.J. Abrams?
Stephen King: Yeah, I think they are still interested in that but you know for me it was a way of actually… how can I say this… it was a way of stopping a lot of requests and a lot of speculations I was getting from people. I’d get calls from producers “Have you sold this? Have you thought about selling this?” Fans would write and try to cast the movie, got this one to play Roland and that one… and all that stuff so… J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse who are the people that do LOST came up to Maine and we had a roundtable discussion that Entertainment Weekly put on and Maine was the logical place to do it because I live there and J.J’s wife comes from Brewer which is right across the river from where I live so… we started to talk about The Dark Tower and they expressed an interest and based off what I had seen of LOST they were just the people to do it and whether or not it ever gets made is another question because it would have to be something that would bend over an arc of many movies and in the case of The Lord of the Rings and the C.S. Lewis Narnia series… those experiments in what I call long form movies, long form cinema, has been very successful but then people tried the Philip Pullman thing, his dark material and that was a flop so it’s risking a lot of money on a format that’s very iffy so we’ll see if anything happens but in the meantime I don’t have to answer as many questions as I used to.
What is your gut feeling about it? Could it be transformed into a movie?

I have always thought that any of the following actors would be a perfect Roland: Viggo Mortensen, Hugh Jackman or Clive Owen. I think Rosario Dawson would be a great choice for Susannah, but she is a little young. I like her though, she is good looking, but she's also got guts. I really think that she could pull off being Detta, Odetta and Susannah... and Mia too. That's a tall order for anyone though.
Eddie should be played by Jake Gyllenhaal. I think that Jake G. would do him justice...
Jake Chambers: Thats a tough one... Maybe Drew Mikuska? Otherwise it would have to be an unknown actor.

And last no CGI for Oy, I would rather them use a puppet, like the original Star Wars, and maybe use CGI to enhance but no characters using only CGI.

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams and his producing partner, Damon Lindelof (Lost), told IGN.com that they have been working on a film adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel series The Dark Tower, according to a report on MTV.com.
"Damon Lindelof and I talked to Mr. King," Abrams told IGN. "We got the rights for [Dark Tower:] as a film. Damon is obviously still on Lost, and we've been working on Star Trek together. As soon as Lost is done, hopefully we'll begin tackling that."
As Lost wraps up its penultimate season and gets ready for its sixth and final year, Lindelof told the Lostpedia that his entire creative energy is currently focused solely on the series.
"We're just so focused on finishing Lost that it's really hard to think about anything else," he said. "The last thing we want to think about is how to adapt a seven-book series of, you know, basically the writer who we admire the most and look up to most and has inspired our work the most and do anything with that. I think that it's such a daunting task. We have a pretty daunting task in front of us ourselves [with the end of Lost:]."
Previously, Lindelof told AMC that he envisions the series on the same scope as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, possibly even seven movies to match the book series' seven volumes.
I think I always imagined that if the DT series was ever made into a movie / movies it would be in a kick-ass animated format. Animation would allow for artistic renderings of the characters and places and capture the spirit of Mid-world better than a Hollywood set, "western" setup or god forbid, CGI -- it would even make it possible to cast a forty-something year old Clint Eastwood as Roland with Clint doing the voice :) Having said that, if it's not animation, I totally endorse Viggo as Roland -- I think he's shown us he's up for the challenge :)
