What Actor Will You Watch in Anything?

As for the directors, Ron Howard would not be on my list but John Sayles would be.
Forrest Whitaker is not a frequently mentioned actor but should be. Way underrated in my book. Just look at him in the CRYING GAME. Stupendous.

As for the directors, ..."
Thanks! Wow, you're right about both John Sayles. I can't believe I forgot him. The Crying Game was such a good movie. Forrest Whitaker is definitely underrated. I actually thought that he was AMAZING (as always) as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland.

love samantha morton!

Robin -- Thomas Mitchell is a character actor from the 30s and 40s. Some of the more well-known parts he played are Scarlett O'Hara's father in GONE WITH THE WIND, the pilot who is losing his sight in ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS, and the alcoholic doctor in STAGECOACH. I don't think I've ever seen him give a bad performance.

the libertine was a euro-sex-comedy from the late 1960's with jean-louis trintignant. was there a remake? or does this film with samantha morton have nothing to do with the original. i haven't heard of it. i'll look for it, i'm a fan of hers; she's someone i will watch in just about anything ... even minority report.

thanks for mentioning thomas mitchell - AND stagecoach! he also played jimmy stewart's uncle billy in it's a wonderful life.

He can take a mundane line and put a spin on it that makes it pop (remember "nice doing business with you" in Red Dragon). His everyman appearance is endearing. Plus, he often looks like he's having a good time ("Pirate Radio" was ok-good movie but he looked like he was having a ball).

thanks for men..."
He was based on a different figure from history, the earl of Rochester. Same difference pretty much, controversial writings on controversial sexual proclivities. The stage production with John Malkovich was supposed to be quite good. The film disappointed me montage-ing all of the relationship moments with Barry and Rochester.
(My twin and I had a strange obsession with all things Charles II in middle school.)
Quills was a weird Sade movie. I remember I liked Kate Winslet more than anything else.
