Victory at Moores Creek...and Murtagh gets a brief Culloden appearance....so we are coming to the end of this one...probably tonite

So Jamie DOES have the "sight" -- after Roger & Co go back to the 20th cent he mentions he dreams of them to Claire that he saw them safe to Inverness

Finally began reading ABOSAA now., and inadvertently read a chapter of written in my own hearts blood by mistake while loading the books i hadn't read on to my newer kindle. It took me several evenings and chapters or so to discover my mistake. Guess i created my own spoiler in this case, now it makes me want to fly through the others. Thank goodness i'm back on track, but still find myself thinking about what i read when i has skipped ahead so briefly.

Kind of interesting to see Brianna make things she is familiar with from the future. (I.e. attempting matches, the toy for Jem, piped water and such).

Very interesting -- as well, in one of the earlier books it looks like Frank somehow determined Bri DID follow Claire to the 18th cent and prepared her (ie teaching her to shoot and other outdoor actvities).

Thats's cool, will there be mention of that as I read on i hope?. Of all the things Frank was he adored Brianna,. That redeemed him in my eyes quite a bit. After all Claire was an adult, considering his staying married to her and raising the baby as theirs was kind of an amazing thing in that time period. They dealt each other a bunch of hurt after she came back though that's for sure.

I am reading this one now. I am halfway through it. I think it might be my favorite book in the series so far. I don’t want to do anything but read this book. And Jamie as a grandpa...OMG could he be any more adorable!

This is my favorite book so far. I am obsessed with chapter 119. I need this to make it to be in the show. I have reread it more times than I care to admit. (view spoiler)

I guess so. He gets a pass on the whole beating Roger thing.. Extenuating circumstances. I blame Lizzie for that. lol

When Ian came back he brought a book to Claire that was a diary written by someone like them. That’s how Ian found out.

Just finished this one and what a wild ride! So many little plots and intrigues and people and stuff happening, my head is swimming! Not sure I liked how easily the prophecy came abouy, but hoping that the last little part (about the newspaper notice) is pointing towards something I want to happen!

I would not say I am dragging. I love the stories (books). However, I I am only reading Outlanders. I read slowly, and I knit and I don’t have a a lot of extra time. I miss reading other books. But I really want to get through all the books so I am ready for the new one. Just wondering if anyone else feels like they are missing out???

Missing out on other books? No I don’t feel that way but right now I am reading 2 other books along with rereading the series. Have you tried the audiobook? You could knit and listen to the book at the same time.

I like to binge things and read one after another but I do remember when I was binging Outlander I would have to take a break after a couple of books and refresh my brain with a couple of shorter books in a different genre. I understand the "missing out" but when I was reading other books I felt I was missing out on Outlander. My suggestion to you is not to rush so you can get it read before the next one comes out because once you read that it will be years before the last one comes out. Also The audio book suggestion is a fantastic one. When you listen you don't need your eyes or hands so you can knit at the same time. Honestly many people prefer listening while they are doing other non verbal activities and they can get into the zone for both things.

I actually listen to books while I cross stitch all the time. It works out well. I’m sure it will be the same sort of thing with knitting.

I reread the series last year in preparation for Bees (finished this January). I realized that DG and I have a very different definition of “soon” when I finished each book, intentionally slowly, and still no sign of Bees. I tried re-reading again lastmonth — I can always read book 1 it seems, but my attention was flagging in book 2. I guess it’s too soon for a reread... but stinks because I really wanted to be fresh for Bees.
I didn’t feel like I was missing out on other books but thought I was doing my brain a disservice by not introducing any new stories. So I’m off-Outlander at the moment but always hoping to jump back in. It could also be that I don’t love book 2 as much as I do the rest of the books...
I think her definition of soon is the same as George RR Martin’s. I expect them to both be done at the same time so I can have a proper meltdown on which to read first. I am in the middle of Echo right now and I expect to be done with Moby before we get bees. I might ever throw in a reread of the Scottish Prisoner and still be done in time for bees

I just hope I don't die before she finishes the series. I've never read another series that takes this amount of time between books.

I have and it is torture. The last GoT book was released the same year as the last Outlander book. I’m going to have a meltdown if they are done at the same time. I now won’t start a series unless I know it’s complete.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Claire's cat Adso when the Fraser's left The Ridge in ABSAA? I was re-reading but haven't gotten far enough and I just thought of it.

Patty. Thank you. I had forgotten that! I LOVE cats so much it broke my heart to think poor Adso had been abandoned to fend for himself while Claire and Jamie traveled their separate paths until they could be united to find their way home to the Ridge. Home.

Adso makes a mild appearance in Bees so he is still padding along! Sometimes the animals in the book s are almost as important as the characters! We love the fur babies too!

I've just started reading ABOSAA because I've just finished Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish two books which where hilarious and I just giggled but learned some more about Scottish history, but going back just a quick one is it me or is Jamie extremely more sexuall and vocal in this book??? Because I'm starting to think maybe Mr Grey should of taken a leaf out of Jamie's book Wow (also not complaining but wanted to know if it was only me)😉

Jess☺️ wrote: "I've just started reading ABOSAA because I've just finished Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish two books which where hilarious and I just giggled but learned some more about Scottish history, but goin..." It's possible you are right, you know Claire and Jaime are finally getting back into a groove after that 20yr relationship hiatus. I don't think they were as frisky after the Randall thing. It amazing what time and healing will do.

Oh I understand Teresa but it was funny to read Claire kind of blushing when Jamie throws his Mr Grey out and about because she's such a strong female character it was strange to read her softer in away (I must admit I do find myself say 'oh Jamie' in that shockingly giggling way).

Jess☺️ wrote: "Oh I understand Teresa but it was funny to read Claire kind of blushing when Jamie throws his Mr Grey out Jess and Tessa, Claire and Jamie have had such a strong and passionate sexual relationship. It seemed to me that when they left the Ridge they bonded closer together and not surprising. ABOSAA is a great book.

They are beautiful looking books and I plan to read them in the next few weeks. It sounds like they are very entertaining. Thanks again for telling me about them.
Oh your more than welcome Cheri, Clanlands is the first one thou, it was lovely light read with great history but the giggles!! hope you enjoy and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! (I have a soft spot for Graham McTavish after reading these two books... poor man)Back to ABOSAA I'm at the part where Claire has been attacked and is home, I personally think we should of seen in the TV series the part where her and Jamie are slowly getting drunk so the can help her , because I think in away it shows just how much they trust and love each other in a deep dark way and their connection is a little more solid, I think because of all the trauma they have been thought together.
I would of liked to see Jamie let loose his mighty highlander side like the book when he saved Claire because the TV series shows Jamie to be perfect (which he is!!) but I kind of miss his bloody highlander side.

You watched season 5 of the show. I bought the DVDs for my collection, but I will never watch it again. I was furious at the way Roger's tragedy was made a mockery of. I wanted to throw shoes at the TV screen. A lot of other people felt the same way. I thought it was tasteless.
Sam Heughan is a good actor and he does a good job of bringing Jamie to life, but the script writers never capture him the way Diana wrote him. Part of what I love about him is that though he is passionate, fiercely loyal and courageous, etc, he has a few chinks in his armor. Like you said, his bloody highlander side. As Claire always says, "You bloody Scot!
Claire's attack was incredibly brutal, and every time something traumatic happens to her, Jamie becomes even more protective of her and angrier at himself that he couldn't protect her. And you're right, they become even closer. I wish we could all have such an amazing marriage.
I think the TV series is one of the good converted one's but it does lack the readers imagination sparkle thou, yes Sam Heughan does bring a certain part Jamie Fraser to real life but like you something is missing... also I think the first season is my favourite.Poor Roger that was horrendous what happened to him and the books continue show how he still struggles but the TV show has in a sense forgot it happened.
Oh I'm convinced we can all have a marriage like Claire and Jamie's, Cheri it's called we best be finding some stones and travelling back 😆
I'm now at the part where Marsali and Fergus has had baby Henri-Christian... one what a way to start labour and secondly what a small minded time it was to have all that worry I know it's still a worry today but for then my god!!!
Jess☺️ wrote: "I think the TV series is one of the good converted one's but it does lack the readers imagination sparkle thou, Jess, You like the first season best? It;s my favorite too. I have watched the whole thing 2 or 3 times.. And reread the book 4 times. Outlander has won many awards as a series.
Roger's injuries were glossed over and Rik Rankin's voice should have been more hoarse once he could speak again.. The writers made a parody of a tragedy with their silent film approach, which cheapened the experience for me . In the books, Diana continued to describe his struggles to speak without distress.
I wish I could believe that more marriages are like Claire and Jamie's. The divorce rate would be lower.
Henri-Christian was a special child. You'll like him. But Marsali and Fergus and their children will be tested after his birth. Yes, it is still a worry today.
Going back to the Jamie character I just love him as grandda and his relationship with Bree and Marsali .My heart just aches when he gave Jem and piggy back shirt-less after Bree explained bad men gave him the scars and Jem kissed him there to make it better.
But I'm a little disappointed so far we don't see much of a relationship between Fergus and Jamie.
I am disappointed with how they don't show Jamie's leadership characteristics in the show like they do the books. He doesn't stand out in the show as commanding like he is in the books.
I must admit I do enjoy watching Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser but I do miss the bloody highlander and like you said Mrsbooks his strong leadership side of him.

I thought the black and white "silent movie" treatment of Roger's hanging was incredibly effective. Using this technique creates an otherworldly, out of body experience for the viewer (which is probably akin to what he felt). What they did with Claire's out of body experience dealing with her rape was much less effective for me.
I was raped at 16, at knifepoint. I didn't go drifting into lala land. I stayed aware and at the first opportunity, fought back -- the silly clunch dropped the knife during the rape. I grabbed it and turned it on him. He was damn lucky I didn't kill him.
That whole scene where she's drifting is totally not in character for Claire.
Parker I'm so sorry to read about what happened to you truly and I get you must hear or in this case read that all the time but honestly I really am what a horrendous and despicable bastard!! (That's me keeping it clean) Yes the black and white filming of Roger was effective but I still felt after reading and still reading the TV series has just finished with it but in the books it gives him another way if thinking and purpose.
With Claire's attack and her drifting I'm still left with the feeling of nothing-ness it just didn't make much sense to me, I think that's why I missed how she and Jamie dealt with after in the books made it more real .
After not seeing the show for a good while, I looked at several in Season 1. It’s a better show than I thought at first, but now I could see it as loosely based on the books. It Is a much watered down version and misses many episodes I would think very important. Also miss the wisdom that is so much a part of Diana’s writing. It’s the writers’ “riff” on what else might have happened - a definitely disappointing version when you love the books. I wonder if I will still be saying”that’s not right!” I probably will!

That's one of way to describe the TV series many episodes missing, the first season I love and the first book(I enjoyed the others too thou) but I wonder if each season could of been longer to change it??? but also I think a reader's imagination kind of spoils a TV series chance (unless you haven't read the books first) because we all see things differently I suppose even when chatting with a group of people it's different for everyone.
