In doing some searching in Voyager, I ran across the fight between Claire and Jamie at Lallybroch, and Jamie mentions he does not give a fig about L. and never has. Interesting...

Interesting..."Let me tell you, that part will always stick out in my mind as one of the most emotionally raw moments in the whole series. I was breathless after reading it and I think that is the only time Claire reacted the way I truly expected her to. I knew that she wouldn't leave Jamie and go back to her time, but while reading it, I thought maybe there was a chance she would. And, yes, Jamie has made it clear on several occassions that he does not care for Laoghaire--exactly why the whole "imagining her while having sex with Claire" scene really bothered me. I wanted to scream at him after slapping him across the face and ask what the hell are you thinking!!?? Laoghaire is a conniving little wench who has made your life miserable several times!! Who cares if you couldn't please her in bed!! Claire's opinion is the only one that matters!
In a perfect world, that's true. But you can't help what your emotions react to. Jamie didn't want Loaghaire, he never did. But he was always used to women reacting to him flatteringly, Loaghaire included. I thought Claire had every right to be angry at him. But I also think Jamie's reaction to everything was very realistic. He's a man, and he's a bloody prideful one, at that. I was glad that in the end Claire understood and put it behind them.
I envy their relationship, it's strong and trusting.
Also, we have to remember that Jamie was close to 50, it is the age a lot of men get a little crazy, divorce their wives and buy a red convertible, and don't see that they look ridiculous. While I see this might explain Jamie's reactions (after all he is a regular man), I still find it very hard to swallow.
I can't understand fantasizing about having sex with Laoghaire if they never had a satisfying sex life! Even Geneva would be easier to understand. At least she was crazy about him.
Well if you remember correctly, he was dreaming and it was angry and rough. I wouldn't say it was a fantasy, I'd say he was caught up in a memory... but I could be remembering it wrong.

Nonetheless, it was a fantasy. And I don't get it. I never fantasize about guys that I didn't enjoy. Or whatever you call, memory or whatsoever...
Men are different though...
The point I was trying to make was that whatever was in his head he wasnt enjoying. That's how Claire knew that he wasn't aware of who he was touching because it was angry and rough. And when someone says 'fantasy' I imagine something that they get off on. I have dreams all the time of unpleasant moments from my past, and I definitely wouldn't call them fantasy's. To fantasize means to indulge or daydream about something you desire. That was not what was happening.
Good comments Ladies! I too just figured after "burning" for Claire for 20 years, nothing and no one else would matter, least of all Loaghaire. It was good to see Claire disturbed about his marriage to L. and passionate in conveying it. The male ego... I guess I just can't comprehend it. I certainly would have let him have it when I learned he was imagining her when making love to me! Chalk it up to Claire not being the jealous type I guess! Point for her!
When Jamie decided to marry Leghair, he needed to feel "needed". -- He just came back from Helwater but he gave the Laird title to Jenny's first born, little Jamie. So he didn't feel like he belong there anymore. And the fact that Leghair's husband had die, and her family need to be taken care of. That's why he decided to marry her. This is why I'm so excited to read the Scottish Prisoner because it's going to be Jamie's POV around this time.
Tell me later if it really is his POV. Everytime I am reading I feel like I never get enough of what Jamie is thinking.
I know!! I can't wait to read Scottish Prisoner too. There's so much from that time that I want more of.

One of the reasons I loved ABOSAA so much is because of all the books in the series this is the one that Jamie talks the most. I felt very satisfied with this book.
Yesterday I got Outlander just to go back to good old times, and I think I am about to commit a sacrilege: I think ABOSAA is very close of being my favorite book.
Wow! It was a great book, definitely. Heart pounding, and a few things that happen made me feel literally sick to my stomach.

Latinlandish: I am there with you. I absolutely loved ABOSAA. The emotions in this book just drew me in as much as Outlander. And I can't decide between the two which is my favorite. And like you, I am afraid of the backlash I would get if I ever said any book was better than Outlander.

I know. But it is true. If you grab Outlander and just open it at any page, it doesn't have the depth of ABOSAA. And I think it is great, because that's the way it should be, it should get better and better. You can see how Claire is not so impulsive anymore, and Jamie has matured too. And their relationship has much more dimensions, beyond the mere physical infatuation. I really loved this book.
I know this is not the right spot, but for all my good freinds lookat this deal:$699 -- Scotland in Spring: 6-Night Package w/Car & Flights

ABOSAA was a great book, but nothing beats Outlander for me. I love reading Jamie and Claire meeting and falling in love. The moment he tells her his third reason for marrying her, because he loved her, gets me every time.

I could never really understand that third reason. I always thought there was something else that we would know later. How could he be so sure of his love for her without even knowing her that well?
I believe he knew his love. I met my husband during a vacation 20 years ago. After about two hours of casual conversation, I turned to my friend and said, "I love this man. I am going to marry him." We have now been married 17 years. It is possible.

Oh definitely, it's possible. And it hadn't been that short of a time. They spent many hours together talking at Leoch before they got married. They had become friends and comforted each other... I thought it was perfect.
I know it is possible. I dated my husband for 2 weeks and I told my mom, this is the man of my life. We didn't see each other for 3 and 1/2 years. Then we spent 3 weeks together, and another 1 1/2 year without seeing each other. Then we visited for a month and 6 months later we decided to move together. And have been together for 22 years! I guess I am wrong about our dear Jamie. He definitely knew he loved Claire.
I am totally blown away by the Buggs! Do you all think the reason they went to live with Jamie was mainly to have a way to steal the gold from Jocasta?I guess deep inside Jamie knew it was not right to keep the gold. It actually didn't belong to Jocasta. And maybe thta's why, he just let Arch go away without charging him with theft.
Latinlandish, I found them confusing... If felt like such a betrayal because they lived with J & C and took care of the cooking and house. Mrs Bugg always seemed to care for them but i guess greed is very powerful.

I have a quick question. I'm half way done listening to FIERY CROSS but ABOSAA will due back to the library 5 days and cannot be renewed, darn it, someone must be waiting for it. Anywho, can I skip the last half of FC so that I can finish ABOSAA?

LOL! Me too! I will be reading Echo (for the first time... I've been holding off) next week, and decided to re-read some of ABOSAA in prep. I forgotten how much I loved this book! I've only read the series once, but I think a re-read will need to occur before the next book comes out...
Totally agree w u. Just read some of Outlander again and realized how much both characters have matured, have more depth. Even their decisions (about war, family, politics) is better developed in ABOSAA. Their love is stronger and they are much more interesting persons.I just realized that many years have passed since DG wrote Outlander. I can see clearly how much she has improved as a writer. I think it is wonderful that the latter books in the series are better. I rather follow an author that gets better as the series goes on.

Thanks for posting this topic. I am reading A Breath of Snow and Ashes right now on my Kindle. Besides the original Outlander book, I think this is the best one I've read so far. In a way I am glad that I just discovered these books because if I had to wait 2 years between books I think I would go crazy! I can not get enough of Claire and Jamie! Right now I am at the part where Claire is experimenting on Bobby & Lizzie with the ether. Some times I find myself still up reading at 2am!
Fawn, I am not as far along as you are, but I know where you are coming from by not getting enough of this story. I listen until 2:00 in the morning. :-)Fawn wrote: "Latinlandish wrote: "I couldn't find a topic for this book, so decided to start a new one.

Trying to find the part where Jamie and Claire discuss Leghair (Ha!) in ABOSAA, does anyone know which chapter I can find this ?
Dani, I was wondering if I should get one of these books on tape. I was thinking that I would know how to pronounce the names and Gaelic that way. I do love reading on my kindle though.Ellen I tried to look it up for you, but I think the one down fall of the kindle is I haven't figured out yet how to find a particular page. If I find it I will let you know though. I am sure the must be a way to show a page number I just have to figure it out.
Fawn: I have read the series twice and started listening ti the books on audio when I'm driving it working out. I finished Outlander and am now on DIA. There are actually a lot of little things that I missed reading them and have enjoyed the audio books tremendously. I think you would like them too

Jenn wrote: "Dont skip it. The second half of FC is much better than the first half."Thanks all for responding. Just found out I should have time to finish TFC and ABOSAA. So glad I didn't skip as suggested. The second half began with Jo's plantation and then Roger's incident were nail-bitting. Thanks again.

Thanks Fawn, if you should come across which chapter, that would be great, if not, I am just reviewing for EIB start later today.
Fawn, I think you would love listening to the series on audio. The narration is with an english accent, and scots, and she pronounces the gaelic to. The only negative to it is that unlike a book, you can't go back to say the middle of the chapter if you miss something, you have to start the chapter over..at least on Ipod. You do not need to listen to the entire chapter if you want to back.
Do a google search on how to rewind audiobooks on your type of IPod. I have the IPod Classic if you want me to explain it to you, let me know.
Thanks Dani,I do have an ipod i think I will see about listening to one of the books. I could get my claire and Jamie fix and get house work done at the same time! lol
Your welcome! And my house is a lot cleaner when I have Jamie and Claire going on my Ipod...just saying! LOLFawn wrote: "Thanks Dani,

The Bugs confused me too. Why even go to Fraser's Ridge? They could have gone anywhere with what they had.
I agree Fawn... My friends reading ABOSAA and was asking me about the Bugs. They had the care of Jamie and Claire. Claire respected and needed Mrs. Bug to keep her house and feed her family!

Well I finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes. On to An Echo in the Bone I better read it s l o w so I won't have too long to book #8!

I tried to make it sound like Claire, lol.I think that the Bugs did care for Claire and Jamie. They didn't blame them for what happened with the gold. But I think that they weren't able to put it behind them. They just couldn't let it go.
Fawn, GOod idea to start EITB right after ABOSAA because they dovetail so well. I think. I am reading it slow too only page 200 and have been reading for 10 days.

Is it me PMS'g? bc all of these good-byes in ABOSAA are tearing me to pcs. Of all the relationships & hanky-panky going on, Lizzie's is giving the creeps. It was kinda sweet reading about how much they loved each other but for some reason, it felt like those boys were 12. Maybe there wasn't enough stories about the boys being responsibled for anything except stalking Lizzie.
