Have no idea about IL, but you have to wear one in MI.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments what, am i swinging by to get you? thought we were meeting in CHI.

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

Never mind. I thought you were asking about the helmet laws in IL.

Not for a show, I should clarify. Family thing. But I'd love to meet up with anyone who wants to meet up.

message 58: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Uh oh, Mothers Day weekend. I probably will not be able to make it, unless you get in on Friday.

message 59: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments What's mother's day doing so early???

Friday lunch can possibly be arranged. I'm thinking of driving instead of flying, in which case I would drive on Thursday most likely.

message 60: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Jim, I owe you a big thank you. There's a festival that I was supposed to play on mother's day weekend, and I hadn't even considered the fact that mother's day might be the same weekend, since it's usually later. I still have time to gracefully bow out. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.

Me too.

smetchie | 4034 comments I've got a lot of stuff planned for the early summer but if it ended up being later in the summer, I might be able to join you all.

message 65: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Chicago is too far to drive and too close to fly, but if anyone is heading westward and wants to break their journey at Casa de Jammies, he, she or they is/are welcome to stop over.

I'll see what I can do :)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Where are you playing in Chicago, Pi? It might be cool to organize the meet around one of Pi's gigs, don't you think?

Jammies He may have, Kevin, but Casa de Jammies is MY house no matter what that decrepit, disgusting weasel thinks.

Sarah | 13814 comments RandomAnthony wrote: "Where are you playing in Chicago, Pi? It might be cool to organize the meet around one of Pi's gigs, don't you think?"

It's not a show, RA. I'll be there for my cousin's Bar Mitzvah. Then I started musing about seeing if I could work a show into the weekend, though it would have to be solo. I used to play at Uncommon Ground, so I'll probably check their schedule first, once I found out which evenings the family events commit me to.

message 72: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Would your cousin mind if all of TC crashed his Bar Mitzvah?

message 73: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Ha!
This is going to be a very small Bar Mitzvah, not one of the fancy big ones, so you'd probably be noticed. Hey, what relationship is he to me if he's my father's first cousin's grandson? It means he's one generation off from mine. Is that second cousin, once removed?

message 74: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I never remember how the second cousin and/or once removed thing works, Sarah, but it does sound like a pretty distant relation.

I haven't been to a Bar Mitzvah since I was a teenager and had friends who were Bar Mitzvah boys. It was always a lot of fun. Enjoy it.

message 75: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Thanks, Jonathan. I wasn't actually trying to emphasize the distance of the relationship. His parents and I are good friends. I just feel weird saying "cousin" with the implied same-generation thing.

message 76: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I know what you mean. Some of my cousins' younger kids refer to me as their uncle because saying cousin seems somehow a little off.

message 77: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Sarah, I think he's your first cousin twice removed. I think.

message 78: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Thanks, Jammies!

Is this task still up for grabs? I could do it.

message 80: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Go for it, Gail!

Sarah, my brother plays at Uncommon Ground every time he comes through town. I used to live right by there.

message 81: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments if your common ancestor is your grandparent, it's your first cousin; great-grandparent, it's your second cousin. The generational thing comes in as once-removed, twice-removed. Does that make sense?
I use people in my family to remind me what the difference is.

Ten bucks says he's been snoring for three hours.

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

Ahhhh, I forgot he likes to go to bed early. Would you like me to send you a copy?

message 86: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) RA snores? I'm so disappointed.

message 87: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments no he doesn't....i mean....errrr....he prob doesn't

message 88: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heh. Gail, that map is awesome! Post away!

I was asleep by about nine last night. We're in the first week of classes, twelve hour day today...

Ok...June, July, or August? Let's narrow this sucker down.

message 91: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments There is a lot of money in Barrington.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments My brother in law is a divorce attorney there and in Crystal Lake. He makes pretty good money, I understand.

message 93: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments He probably earns it.

From Automag.com:

There's no rule that says a car has to be beautiful to be eligible for Collectible Classic status. The AMC Pacer isn't beautiful. It's definitely different, though, and people notice it. Behind the wheel, you're an instant celebrity. Other drivers honk, wave, and smile.

Great pics of a restored Pacer here:

message 97: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments My BIL owned a Pacer as his first car. A yellow Pacer. It still makes me laugh.

message 98: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments who famously drove a 1977 Pacer in a movie?

message 99: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments It sounds like the answer should be "Shaft!" based on the phrasing, but I don't think that's true.
