Hello! I'm Ronyell and I'm the moderator of this group and I'm from the United States! I am currently in grad school getting my masters degree. I really enjoyed reading ever since I was a child and I am totally against prejudice and racism.

message 2: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Mitchell Hi Ronyell! I'm from the United States also. I write science fiction and am a strong believer in equality for all people. I try to incorporate this in my writing when I can, as science fiction has always been used to examine real-world issues. I grew up watching reruns of The Twilight Zone, which often focused on issues of race and inequality. I'm also a big fan of Star Trek and the bright future Gene Roddenberry imagined.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 101 comments Hi Ronyell and Joseph. Joseph, I think science fiction is a fruitful genre to deal with issues of racism and prejudice.

Hello everyone!! I'm glad that you have all joined this group! I am also a strong believer in fighting against prejudice and racism and this club will help many people realize the importance of making peace with everyone!

Joseph, I agree that science fiction is a great way to explore racism and prejudice and how people deal with it.

Dina (missdina) Hi everyone! No one has invited me - *sobs* - but I'm nosy and couldn't help noticing this group when Nissie joined it. So here I am! :)

My grandparents were Chinese, I was born in Mozambique (Africa), I live in Brazil currently and have relatives scattered all over the world. Needless to say, my background has shaped my life and my beliefs, making me an advocate against any kind of prejudice or racism.

Oh, I also love reading. Duh! Why else would I be here at GR? :) My favorite genres are romance and mystery (whodunit).

message 12: by Nissie Lambert (new)

Nissie Lambert Hey,Dina! Glad to see you here. If I'd known you hadn't been invited, I would have sent you an invite. *hugs* :D

Sara | 18 comments Hello Everyone,

I'm sara.
I was born in Egypt, lived there for a few years, Saudi Arabia for another few years, and have been living in Michigan for almost 12 years now.
I'm studying Journalism, one more year to go!!
One of the things that brought me to journalism is the fact that most people don't get to read about all the multi-national communities where people are willing to accept others without making a big deal about their personal beliefs.

Manybooks Hi Everyone, I just noticed I have not introduced myself. I'm Gundula, I love to read, and I'm against ANY form of prejudice. One of the things that I think is important to remember is that anyone can be racist or prejudiced; we have to fight racism wherever we encounter it, but we also must realise that racism is not just a Caucasian phenomenon, that any individual, any society can show racism.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone!
I just entered this group and have to admit that the name of the group attracted me. I hate prejudice and I can't stand racism. I am not from USA nor any country that any of you might know well. I come from Bosnia, which was a part of ex Yugoslavia. Here we have a problem with religious racism. And I hate that. I go to high school, that is called Catholic Gymnasium and when I chose it, my friends from Elementary school were judging me because it was catholic instead of orthodox (most of us living here are orthodox). I hated that because it is no different from any other school. Sure, we study Croatian language instead of Serbian, but the languages are the same. You can compare it like this: if Serbian were American English then Croatian was English English. (Hope I'm not too confusing.) Anyway, I really hated that. I don't want to bore you anymore so hi again to everyone. :)

Hello Lady Vamp Trina!! Glad you joined this group! I'm sorry that you had to go through prejudice and in this group, we love to talk about what we can do to prevent racism and prejudice from spreading around the world and like you and everyone in this group, I can't tolerate prejudice and racism myself.

Hi Lady Vamp, I am so sorry you have to go thru that as its one of the hardest things. My husband and I watched the movie Shot Thru the Heart years ago and I am wondering if you were able to see it and if it was accurate in representing the problem? I had a hard time understanding everything that was happening there.

message 39: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm thrilled that we've got members from around the world to give us a variety of perspectives. It's frustrating to realize that bigotry is so universal - but heartening to know that so many goodreads' members are trying to do something about it!

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi to all newcomers and hi to you too Lady OT Lavender. Thanks for your sympathy. It wasn't very easy but I got through it. And about the movie, no I haven't seen it, but I will look it up.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 21 comments Thanks for the invite, Ronyell. I joined a little while ago, but just now had the time to check things out. Looks like a great group.

I'm Julie. I'm from the US (Phoenix, AZ to be exact). Some call me an idealist, but I strongly believe in love, acceptance and equality for all. I abhor prejudice and racism, and some of the people who are my greatest inspirations are those who have fought against these things. I look forward to sharing ideas and discussion with everyone here.
