message 2952: by Tris (new)

Tris Hey, my name is Tristyn (or you can call me Tris, both work). It's so hard to pick favorite books, though Shadow and Bone (and the next two in the series) will always hold a special place in my heart. Lately I've been apt to starting and not finishing books that don't completely grab my attention, and I end up feeling guilty afterwards (but obviously not guilty enough to finish them, heh). It's kind of a habit I'm trying to break. I'm also very excited to see what others' opinions are about the books that I have/will read. Glad to meet you all :D

message 2953: by Emily (new)

Emily Kazmierski Hi all,

The first YA book I remember reading was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and it was excellent. It made me realize that not all YA novels were pure fluff, although there is a place for that. :)

My favorite books overall are Watership Down, Brave New World, and The Hobbit (don't get me started on the movie adaptations).

I'm looking forward to learning about good new YA books from you all.

C. (read_draw_live) | 3 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Claudia. I was born in Cuba and lived there for like 10 years. Now I live in The Netherlands. I speak Spanish and Dutch and I study Germans, French and of court English. I too (as all of you) love reading. I don't really have a favorite book/series, because I love all the books I read (except those from school) I do prefer books without a love-triangle and a happy ending. I also have a thing for historical YA books. When I'm not reading I'm drawing, writing or just hanging around with my friends.

Fun fact about me: So Spanish is my native language but I've read more books in some other languages. I've only read 2 Spanish books in my whole live until now.

message 2984: by Bettina (new)

Bettina (privateringer) | 2 comments hey, i'm bettina! i'm finishing my final year of high school, and i love ya - whether i'm reading or writing it. i'm a big fan of dystopian/speculative ya, but i have a soft spot in my heart for coming-of-age and realistic fiction as well. i love j.k. rowling, rick riordan, rick yancey, john green, melissa meyer, david levithan, megan abbott and leigh bardugo, among many authors; and i honestly read so many books that it's difficult to pick a series that stands out for me.

hey caroline! i love both percy jackson and harry potter, and i'm actually pretty surprised that there's a rift in your class between the two - all my friends who've read one of the two like the other just as much. i started watching the movies first (because i was way too young to comprehend the phrase books without pictures, haha), but i definitely recommend reading the first two! it does get a little slow and the writing is pretty straightforward, but it's where everything starts! the third book is where everything starts picking up speed, which is right, but i'd definitely give the first and second books a chance. maybe it's just me being a series purist and doing the whole "read the first book before anything else!!!!" kind of thing, but yeah! and if you're not a fan of the first two books, the movies are pretty solid as well :) good luck!

message 2989: by Jo (last edited Nov 02, 2016 10:45AM) (new)

Jo Ho (jo_ho) | 3 comments Hi everyone! Having been an avid reader my whole life - I love YA, particularly The Hunger Games and The Immortal Instruments (basically anything with kickass female leads), and also fantasy series like The Belgariad by David Eddings. I'm now trying my hand at self-publishing that all important first book, a YA thriller called WANTED)

I'm a screenwriter by trade (I created the BBC action fantasy kid's show, SPIRIT WARRIORS) which stars Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones, Star Wars:The Force Awakens and Marvel's upcoming Iron Fist) and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, Marco Polo). I specialise in high concept ideas so if you want monsters or dystopia starring a teen female lead, then I'm your girl. If like me, you're a geek obsessed with Buffy, then you'll probably like my work :)

I'm newly joined to GR and in dire need of some friends so do drop me a line - I'm nice, I promise!

In the meantime, happy reading! - Jo

message 3000: by Andyy (new)

Andyy the Bookworm | 1 comments Hello, I'm Andrea. I love YA although contemporary is my least favorite. I adore historical romance and I am unable to put a book down until I finish it, which causes me so many problems, especially when I'm supposed to be studying for a test and I can't 'cause I haven't finished the book I was reading. I don't have a favorite book, I can't stand the bad boy cliché, and I'm looking forward to discussing books with you guys. :)
