Davonne Burns | 1 comments Hiya, I'm Davonne. I'm new to the YA genre and just dipping my toes in for now. I thought this group would be a good way to find out what's out there. I've read a few of the better known titles such as Harry Potter, Hunger Games and yes even Twilight. I recently read City of Bones as well. So if anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to listen. ^_^

Isabelle (damneddaybreaker) | 10 comments Hey there guys! I'm Isabelle. I love reading (duh) and is currently addicted to Danisnotonfire, because he's not, unlike Katniss, on fire. Yesterday, I watched Wonder Woman and became obsessed with Greek mythology. It's almost as awesome as L from Death Note. I love L. He's so adorable!

I haven't met the book of my dreams yet, but some books that I really like are The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, The Lord of The Ring by the JRR Tolkien, The Seven Kingdoms by Kirsten Cashore, Prodigy by Marie Lu and the Night World series by LJ Smith.

I've heard that critics think that The Wheel of Time is a ripoff of LotR, but that's not true. The beginnings are similar, but that's it. Both of them are awesome. WoT is a bit drawn-out sometimes, but it's a great story.

I'm planning to read Jane Austen's works soon, and after all the talking about it in The Infernal Devices, A Tale of Two Cities.

I'm going to end this before I write an essay. Well, hiya all and bye for now!

message 2357: by Kym (new)

Kym Hi, my name is Kym, and I presently live in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. I am mom to Tavis (who will be 28 tomorrow), an RN, a widow, sister, friend, pet owner (or should I say I am shared by 2 cats?), word geek, grammar nazi (I really should seek help for that, but I've just learned to edit in my head and keep my mouth shut), and a VORACIOUS reader. I read or listen to about 6 books per week. I play word games and DrawSomething 2 on my iPad.

I am a bit challenged in the pop-culture arena because I don't watch TV. Most of my visual entertainment comes from YouTube and watching DVDs of both movies and television. I do enjoy travel, going to renaissance festivals, music venues, and street fairs, so I'm not totally backward.

I don't stick strictly to one genre. I read classics, romance, YA, mystery, suspense, historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, children's books, paranormal (especially the light, funny books) and general fiction. In non-fiction I like memoirs, biography, history, and books about language development and word etymology (I did say I am a word geek).

I am looking forward to reading your comments about books, and getting recommendations from you.

Have I been too loquacious in my intro?

Hey, I'm Tori. I have always loved to read, and for the past few years I have been reading young adult fiction. I love anything within the y.a. genre. I just joined Goodreads today because I wanted to chat and discuss books with people that I know have the same interests as me. I live in Canada and I have an extreme book buying problem, but it's okay because I love to read. :)

If you liked The Mortal Instruments, you'll probably love The Infernal Devices (jmho, lol) I think you can see how much Cassandra Clare's story telling improves as you read TID, and that's saying a lot because she's an amazing story teller.

James Loftus Just want to say hi and promote a book but not mine. But a very fine but forgotten book. I read it when I was about twelve, picked up from a second hand book shop on holidays at Caloundra, Qld, Australia - top spot.

Anyway, the book had a shipwreck, a female (of course, female) heroine and witchcraft and a medieval setting.

I think it is shame when very good books become lost in the miasma of time.

Time of the Unicorn

I love books and writing, and my family.
