message 2266: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (brocsbookcase) | 1 comments Hi all, my name is Hannah. I'm 21 and from England.
I think the meanest question a book lover can be asked is "what is your favorite book?". I'm always like, how am I meant to choose?!?!?! I read way too many YA books (no i don't, you can never read too many books!) and I also LOVE fantasy. Joined this book club on goodreads, as all the ones near where I live don't read the books I like!
Check me out at www.brocsbookcase.wordpress.com

message 2267: by Debbie (new)

Debbie I joined this group to help me find great reads for my almost 14 yo daughter. Her favorites are: everything by John Green, infernal devices, mortal instruments , delirium, divergent, and many more. Sometimes I am not sure if books are age appropriate so I thought I could ask here for opinions and suggestions.

message 2268: by Jordan (last edited Sep 03, 2013 08:03AM) (new)

Jordan I'm Jordan and I read all the time! My favorite books are: anything by Cassandra Clare (especially the Infernal Devices!) , Battle Royale by Koushin Takami, The Gemma Doyle Trilogy, and a lot of others...those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not really a contemporary reader, but time to time I will pick up one. Most of the time I will be seen with anything fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, etc.

message 2269: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (readingwanderlust) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Jennifer. I love reading various genres of books, but recently I've found myself checking out YA novels. They're addicting. As of now, my favorite YA book is "Slammed", by Colleen Hoover. She is an amazing author- definitely allows you to get in touch with your emotions, and.. It's a trilogy! She had written other books as well, but I haven't found the time to read them just yet!

I love reading other people's recommendations for super enjoyable books (not just blah ones), and meeting friendly people on GoodReads. I always check the ratings on books before reading so I don't waste my time! :)

Lenn ♡ | anatomyofabooknerd (IG) (anatomyofabooknerd) Hi, my name is Alena. But my friends usually call me Lenn. I am really in love with reading but sometimes, there are so many things that gets in the way. I read YA, NA, Surrealism and a bit of Fantasy.

Samara Hi everyone! My name is Samara, I'm 15 and live in Australia. Now before I tell you all some of my favourite authors, I think it's important that we take a moment to admire some of the greatest libraries in film;" I Love You” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Hogwarts Library from Every Harry Potter Movie, “The Jedi Archives” from Star Wars Episode II: The Attack of the Clones, “X Marks the Spot” from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, “The Beast’s Library” from Beauty and the Beast, "Will Parrish's Library' from Meet Joe Black, "Elinor Loredan's Library" from Inkheart… The list goes on!! Now that we have all drooled over such beautiful libraries, I have to say that I don’t have a favourite book/series. There would be way too many to choose from! But a few of my favourite authors are David Levithan, Sarah Desson, Amanda Hocking, J.K Rowling, Becca Fitzpatrick, and many more! Feel free to add me if you like :) You never know, we many just get into a 'Why Harry Potter is better than Twilight' discussion.

message 2293: by ShellTheBelle (new)

ShellTheBelle  (shellthebelle) | 2 comments Hi guys my name is Miche. I am attempting to pen my first YA Novel, having written 40K words so far, but need advice from this community;

I want to know how you guys feel about reading a book written in Third Person, but with the MC point of view. I am aware that almost all YA books are written in FIRST PERSON but I really need to give the reader details that are really important to the story that I would not be able to get across with first person.

If any of you have read Flat Out Love by Jessica Park (one of only two books I found in this genre written this way, the other being Beautiful Disaster by Francette Phal) this is the way I am writing mine.

I have not written anything in weeks because I am struggling with whether or not I should abandon and start again from First Person POV. So, would it put you off a book if it was NOT written in First Person?

Please help guys any advice will be very welcome!!

message 2294: by Seth (new)

Seth | 5 comments Hi Everyone! So happy to be a member here, though I've been watching for a bit (sounds creepy, it isn't!). My name is Seth Fishman, and my favorite books are many, from Ender's Game to Tolkien to David Mitchell to current YA most especially Paolo Bacigalupi and Leigh Bardugo.

Interesting thing about me: I'm a literary agent AND a YA author (my first book, THE WELL'S END, pubs Feb 2014 from Putnam/Penguin). So I represent really amazing authors (like Tea Obreht, Kate Beaton, etc.) and get to see behind the looking glass of that world. Crazy fun stuff. Love it and am excited to connect with y'all (yes, from Texas).

Hey Shell, as a literary agent I'll say that I NEVER dock points for first or third person. If you write the book well, if the story calls for third then that's not only fine, it's great. Do what works best for the story you're writing, not the market, because the market is constantly changing, looking for something new! Hope that helps.

Hey Seth. Thank you so much, your advice really does help. I'm following you on here now (stalker not) because as you are a literary agent I may be in touch when I finally finish my work! Thanks again.
