Marijke Jansen (marijkefjansen) Heey everybody! My name is Marijke Jansen and I'm from The Netherlands. I'm 26 years old and I love to read all kinds of books, but I also love to write them. Last month I won a writing competition and my very first Dutch novella Muze (translated to English: Muse) will be published later this year. Momentarilly (like, for the past three years) my very favorite genre is dark romance (paranormal) and dystopian novels for young adults. Books with a message I love best. Those are the stories that stays longest with me. Favorite books and authors? I have so many! But to give some examples: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (this book started my YA addiction), Fallen by Lauren Kate, City of Bones and Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, Halo by Alexandra Adornetto (and I could name a lot more...) I hope to have lots of interesting discussions here! Nice to meet you all!

message 1752: by Danie (new)

Danie (heyydanie) Hi all! I'm Danie, I'm 22, a nanny, and a book addict. I read mostly YA, so I figured this would be a great place to join.

I also blog at Booktacular, www.booktacularworld.blogspot.com, so you should all come check it out!

Can't wait to chat and get to know you all!

message 1753: by Reese (new)

Reese | 1 comments Hi I'm Reese. I'm 16 and want to be a writer some day. I like to read (well... I guess that's obvious) and ride horses. I love sooo many books, its hard to just name one! But I like: The Great Gatsby, Looking for Alaska, Catcher in the Rye, and The Luxe series (just to name a few). So hello new group!

message 1754: by Katherine (last edited Jul 15, 2012 03:44PM) (new)

Katherine Hello all. I'm Katherine/Katie/Kat, and I'm currently 18 years old. I live in Columbus, Ohio, and go to school in Fairborn, Ohio (i think? It might be Fairfield, for all I know) at Wright State University. WSU is awesome, and I'm totally in love with it. I'm starting my second year there in the fall, and I'm majoring in Theatre Design/Technology, specifically in carpentry and painting. I absolutely love being/working backstage during the shows. (It gives me time to read in between shifts.)
I just finished Killing Yourself To Live, by Chuck Klosterman, and I absolutely loved it. And by just, I mean less than an ago ago. Up next is finishing the Book Thief, which I started last summer and got to page 74 before discarding it for some reason. (I honestly don't know why I did so.)
At this exact moment, I've got a crate of books (from the library) in the corner of my room which are to be read before August.
Random facts about me: I learned how to read at age three. I have, to this point, not learned how to drive. I have not, at this stage in life, tried any drugs. About two weeks ago, I spent three weeks in Ecuador, to celebrate my birthday, and bought ~15 books there, read all but two, and brought them back. And I'm absolutely in love with the theatre.
Also, I vote the werewolves are better, and paperbacks/hardcovers are tied.

Alexandra (luv2reeadbookworm) Hi, my name is Alex. I'm 16. I love dystopian, paranormal, and fantasy novels with a touch of romance.

message 1757: by Hanar (last edited Jul 16, 2012 08:51AM) (new)

Hanar | 3 comments Hi I'm new and I joined yesterday. I'm Hannah and um I live in the UK. I'm 17, 18 soon and I enjoy coming on the site to review books.

My favourite books would be hard to say but if you look at my good read page most of the books I read are 4 or 5 stars.. :). I like mystery, thrillers, crime, romance, but also life affirming / life perspective books.. however I would like some recommendations on horror as I have not found much of that except in some crime books. I dislike fantasy as it doesn't interest me, I prefer real life books about real life things.

If I was to be picky and choose a book/(s) I liked, I would say Yes Man by Danny Wallace - funny and also a positive and optimistic way of looking at life,

You've Been Warned by James Patterson, was scary and creepy a very good thriller which I picked up for only £0.75p, if you like the concept of the paranormal then buy this book! A lot of the reviews on goodreads were saying how the ending made no sense but in my view it made perfect sense. **It has got some sex scenes but really you shouldn't let that distract you from the book**

Ice-Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson, really good book with inconclusive but good ending. If you like books about friendship as well as loss, mysteries and dark romance then buy this book. It's a book with a serious message.

Mummy Told Me Not To Tell by Cathy Glass, very insightful book - very shocking as it's non-fiction. Sad but very heartfelt. If you like real-life or books about family life and are prepared for something hard hitting and will make you cry this book is great.

I hope to write a book some time, um I like art and photography and umm that's about it really!

message 1758: by Martin (new)

Martin Reed (pendrum) | 12 comments Hey all,

Just joined this group because my old one wouldn't renew my contract after I asked for too much so I signed here instead.

All kidding aside, my name's Martin, and I'm from the land that never stops raining (Vancouver). I like four things in life: wearing aviators, my often disappointing hockey team (Canucks), reading stories from new authors, and writing YA fiction.

My favorite YA books of all time are Lois Lowry's 'The Giver' and George Orwell's '1984'. I read both years ago but they still resonate to this day--signs of powerful books by great authors. I can only one day hope to possess a fraction of the skill they exhibit(ed) and have started on my journey by publishing my first YA novel.

Looking forward to meeting other talented individuals (it's okay, you don't have to be hockey fans) who enjoy reading and writing YA.

M. Reed

Howdy Chester - girls with guy's name ROCK (all 3 of my daughters have guy's names:-).

Currently reading The Mortal Instruments (on book 5) by Cassandra Clare.

I have serious addiction to The Vampire Academy and Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead.

I really liked the Hush, Hush Saga by Becca Fitzpatrick.

I'm super excited to be a part of this group and find some awesome books to read!!

message 1764: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Daveney (bethmasarik) | 5 comments Hey all! My name is Beth or Beth Ann (whichever is easier for you guys to remember :)). I write AND read YA. My series, The World Among Us, was originally picked up by Otherworld Publications, but is being re-released by Hydra Publications early next year (I'll write more about it in another thread).

My favorite YA series hmm...that's honestly tough because I've been reading so many great YA books lately. But, I will have to say it's a toss up between Harry Potter and Vampire Academy (not such a big fan of Richelle's Bloodlines series).

I need to go to Book Rehab. :/

message 1775: by Mariella (new)

Mariella | 4 comments Hi! I'm Mariella :) This has been my first year as a BOOKAHOLIC and I love it! There's nothing like the feeling of being eager to have a book in your hands at all times, and don't get me started on long book series like The Mortal Instruments (God, I can't wait to read the last one!) or Harry Potter.

Right now, I'm really into the dystopian societies genre. Hunger Games was the one that made me take a break from Twilight-ish books and since HG, I've read Divergent (by Veronica Roth, and I strongly recommend it for someone needing something intriguing and full of action) and Legend (like it, but not as much as Divergent and Insurgent).

read till you drop XP

If you liked The Hunger Games, I'm sure you'll like Divergent by Veronica Roth. I really enjoyed this book. Not wanting to spoil it to anyone, I'll just say it's very intereting (don't recommend to read it if you have any type of responsability or an assignment cause it's hard to stop once you started reading it :D lol )

Hi everyone!

I just joined and wanted to quickly introduce myself. I love to read (total bookaholic) mostly paranormal romance or darker YA, and I’m also a published author. I read about 3 books a month. This group seemed cool and really interesting. And I look forward to discussing books and discovering new authors.

So, any recommendations? I’m looking for a few good YA zombie books! ;-)

Happy reading,

Sherry
