Elsa I saw the first couple of movies and because I'm such a romance junkie it just didn't appeal to me.

Elsa Carrion (ecarrion) | 34 comments Bri: I felt the same way, the movies were good but there really was not that much romance involved so that's probably why I didn't have the need to read them, like i do others. But i know i will eventually.

It's not all that hard. I mean, I understand it being not quite to some people's tastes. It's when people flat-out hate it and think everyone else should to that really gets my goat.

Cecilia Robert (Cece26) | 49 comments Hi everyone, it's been a while since I logged in. Just want to welcome new friends. YA is the best.

I write as well, please don't hold it against me! The last book I read that I would recomend was S.G. Alans 'The Sooner' it's a romantic/adventure/sci-fi. I look forward to making new friends!

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments Hi Chelsie it's lovely to meet you, If you ever do come to England make sure it's in the summer, our winters are pretty naff, not much snow just grey days and rain! What genres do you read?

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments It does, Chelsie this is the best way I've heard it put: we don't have a climate, just weather! I like romance, but I like there to be more to the story than just romance, some adventure and mystery for instance. Where abouts in America are you from?

message 1272: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments Hello Radhika, do you stick to reading or do you write too?

message 1274: by Lea (new)

Lea (leabaker) Hi everyone! I'm Lea, a 20 year old Air Force Wife, student, fur-baby mom, and avid reader. I currently live in Okinawa, Japan and work at the base kennels/stray facility. I love reading anything from school books, biographies, non-fiction, and of course YA (my all time favorite). I wish I could say I was writer or a photographer but unfortunately I don't have many talents (ha!). However, I think I do have a talent with animals and I aspire to live my life surrounded by them along with great books and music. (oh, my husband too ;D)

message 1275: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments Hi Lea! I'M 24 and live in Devon, England, it's nice to meet you! It sounds as though you have an interesting life. What is Japan like? I've heard it has some great hot springs! I love reading too, I'm a sucker for a romance. I have a cat (some times, she adopted us when we moved in!), some chickens and koi. I'm trying to be a writer and love my kindle! Are you digital or old school?

message 1276: by Jessica (new)

Japan is different. Sometimes all I really want to do is go back to the states but it's my new goal to take full advantage of living here. We've actually played around with the idea of living in England! As far as digital or old school, I have the kindle app on my iPad and I've read 2 books on it. However, I much prefer holding the book in my hands and collecting them for my shelves. So I guess I'm old school, lol.

message 1279: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments I love the conveinence of my kindle, it takes a 1000 books so I can have favourate oldies as well and new books. The buy it now switch is a little too tempting though!!! How are you doing with the language? I have to confess that I love watching Japanese and Korean drama! I watch them on youtube with english subs, so don't think I can teach you the lingo, lol! But it is amazing how soon your ear becomes attuned to Japanese.

message 1280: by Lea (new)

Lea (leabaker) The language is a struggle. I don't claim to know anything but I'm trying to learn. Right now I'm just "teaching" myself but I want to take some classes as well. I just have to find a good place that I can work into my schedule. We get a lot of Japanese channels and sometimes they are entertaining to watch. I couldn't tell what I'm watching though. The people are really nice, unbelievable nice actually. They definitely make me want to strive to be more kind to everyone. (Not that I'm mean!)

message 1281: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments Yes I had heard that the Japanese are very polite. It makes a big difference doesn't it? I remember a temp job that I had answering the phone for this company, and people were just so rude, not time to say hi, just do this and do it now! Then one day I got a call through from America and the guy on the other end of the line opened with: 'Hello, how are you?' I was so shocked that he was being nice that I just stammered for a little while and then said: 'Er...do you want something?' Poor guy must have thought I was inarticulate AND rude!

Funny thing Lea, but one of the charaters in my book has an aunt Lea. Reminds me every time I see your posts!

nightlyreadingheather (heatherhy01) Hi everyone and welcome to YABC!

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments Hi NRH!

message 1284: by Lea (new)

Lea (leabaker) For me, the biggest difference is going to fast food places. Here, they are always so polite and you get great service and good food. Back in America it's almost like people that work in fast food think they're doing you a huge favor!

I don't see too many people with my name. Actually, most of the time it's Leah(which is how I pronounce my name) but no many people spell it the way I do.

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments I spell it Lea in my book!

Cecilia Robert (Cece26) | 49 comments Hey Bri, is that the new (well 2010) Madea movie? Gosh I haven't watched it, and the way those movies make my day. Have to do borrow from the library.

message 1289: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, I'm Abby! I love to read and I don't think I can choose a favorite. Maybe Harry Potter or the Hunger Games. I don't have access to the second or third but I was hooked on the first! My friend will hopefully be bringing it to me tomorrow. I also enjoy writing. I saw the new Madea movie! It was great! Probably the most serious one though. I like a lot of fantasy books. But I don't care for science fiction. My top three are realisitc fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy. I also love to dance. I don't have a kindle. Sadly. But I also like being able to hold a book. And you don't have to be as careful with a book as you do with a Kindle. I think that's all. Was that too long??

message 1298: by Michael (new)

Michael Cain (broke33poke) | 4 comments Hi My name is Michael Cain. I live to read and love to write. Favorite young adult novels...oh, there are so many.

I like the Twilight books, and PC Cast is a goddess. I love Rick Riordan's Olympians and Kane Chronicles, and Brandon Mull's Fablehaven series. I worshiped Jk Rowling and have recently found I really like Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires. I'm going to start reading book three soon.

I read mostly young adult and Urban fantasy, Parnormal romance and anything that will make me laugh. I also read all of Kate Dicamillo's books. They're just so beautifful.

message 1299: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 63 comments Hi Michael, I'm not going to make the obvious comment about your name, but it's very cool!!! My name is DeeDee, I'm 24 and I live in England. I'm a reader and writer and love romantic adventure (I write it too!).

message 1300: by Marta (new)

Marta Acosta Hi, I'm Marta Acosta, an author and book lover. My favorite books usually have some humor in them, from the wit of Jane Austen to Christopher Moore's wacked out novels. Yet it's the books that make me cry that I remember best...like that moment when Jane Eyre says that she may be poor, small, and obscure, but she still has a heart... I'm quite interested in dystopians now, although I probably shouldn't read them because I'm very paranoid about the future.
