So, my Nook library is getting a little crowded, and I am looking for some suggestions on creating shelves for my ebooks. What have you guys tried and liked???

I do my shelves by genre and subject. Example: Epic Fantasy, Fae, Vampire, Young Adult, Urban Fantasy, Romance, Action Adventure, Thriller, Detective... I have almost 30 tags so I won't list them all here. Oh, I also have read and unread shelves.

Since I read a lot of series, I've actually started a few shelves to keep me organized:*Series to Start
*Series to Finish
*Current Monthly Reads (i.e. January Reads)
I also have a My Favorites shelf and a Novella/Short Story shelf for when I want a quick read!
Carrie I'm glad I'm not alone. I was just reorganizing my shelves last night. I thought I was crazy to have so my shelves...my husband thinks I am. I like having specific shelves so I can pick what I'm in the mood for. I started with a few very basic shelves then went back to see what genre had a lot of books so that I can break it down more.
Michelle, I also like the idea of having series shelves, I wonder If I will have a hard time putting them in order if the books are not loaded in order, I guess I can ask a B&N rep about that. I'm sure that I am making myself crazy about it - I guess if I don't like the way I set the shelves up, I can just change them.
They are not hard to put in order. I actually do have series shelves. That way if I want to go back to the series and reread a couple I can.
If you don't want to do series shelves, you can always do series tags on Calibre (a free program). It will then have all your books show up with the series name first, followed by the number in the series, then the title. That is how I do mine or I would have a hundred shelves, lol.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of your input - for some reason I am too much in my head about it. I do that sometimes and I end up making things more complicated then they really need to be. :)
I've gone with a few things - urban fantasy, classics, finished, fantasy, other. I really wish we could change the shelves and all from the computer... that would be infinitely easier.
I wish I could stop adding shelves. I keep adding shelves. If I have a lot of books in one category, I try to break it down even further. Am I crazy?

JK, yes, doing it from the computer would be lovely. Maybe in an update someday? Or perhaps a Calibre update.
I have 3 shelves. Classics, kids books and To be read. I realized that the to be read is pointless for me if I just archive the books when Im done reading them. It also saves me from having to add them into the shelves in the first place cause Im a bit lazy like that :)
I use genre based lists. I also have a review list for books that I've read for the purpose of writing a review. There is a Z-List for books I want buried away for a bit and an A-List for books I want to read in the immediate future.
So far I have my books listed by author. Also they were listed by genre. And then when I looked at books by cover i had more then one showing of the same book. So clicked on the all tab to uncheck. For a moment there I said what, seeing double

I can't figure out how to get books to show up in order on the Nook. I have many books assigned a series - where there's the option to list series name and number, but this has yet to put any series in order for me outside of Calibre. Is there something I need to change in my Calibre preferences to get them to appear on the Nook in series order?
Yeah, there is a preference in calibre that if u set it up it will put it on your nook as: series name-series number: title. I put how to on under the calibre discussion.
I read mostly YA books but here's my shelves:Angels

Espionage(spies, theives, CIA type stuff)
Fantasy
Favorites
Mythology
Realistic/Historical Fict
TBB(to be bought)

Vampire
Werewolves
For my series I thought about making a shelf for that particular thing, but then I thought about it. For example my Mythology shelf use to be my Rick Riordan shelf. Since all his books are of the same genre and I don't read that many book outside of his that are about mythology I just made a general shelf as to save myself some work.
I have a few different ways that I organize my books. My classics are divided up by century or era (like Ancient Greek or 19th Century) with a special shelf for Classic Sci-Fi. Most of the modern books are shelved by series (like Real Vampires or Doctor Who) or author (Neil Gaiman or Stephen King). I also have shelves for Kids Books, Non-Fiction, Currently Reading, and Read / Not Reading. (I put things like the Nook Quick Start Guide under Not Reading, LOL.)
