message 104: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments I would like a space to call my office and in our new house I may be relegated to the top of the stairs on the landing! It's a wide landing, but a landing all the same!

Meg | 155 comments That's great! My office is my room.

message 106: by Jessabell (last edited Jul 25, 2011 12:31PM) (new)

Jessabell Tales | 5 comments I don't much care for pigeons, however the experience watching them flock down to the floor and eat the seeds gave me an idea. When people walked near them many of them swerved towards me and others who were sitting on the bench, It felt a bit daunting as I thought they were going to hit me in the face.
Luckily they didn't.

When I was on holiday a few months ago I saw a sign, don't feed the seaguls, it worked as there weren't any seaguls about. Although it was a quiet time, out of season, so it could have just been a conincidence.

I spellt it right this time, I have to sort me spelling out to further me chances in writing.

Yep spelling is very important but we do always have the spell check to back us up. No one is perfect, try free rice it will help your spelling and word association. seagulls have 2 ll's and it's spelled. Use me as your personal dictionary if you like Jessabell! I don't mind helping, where do you live? I am in Brittany France.

message 108: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Stroube I usually sit on the right side of the couch with my laptop desk on my lap or I sit in my rocking chair with my portable lap top desk. lol Almost always with one of my cats cuddling with me and usually the television is on. If I am getting close to a deadline, the TV stays off. I like to write at night, but sometimes I write the entire day. I'm not big on writing anywhere but home, unless I am doing for a long car drive to visit relatives... I mean, what else am I going to do for a 5.5 hour car drive! lol

message 109: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Lochner (jdlochner) | 24 comments I have an L-shaped desk I work at in my apartment. I face the wall so I don't have any distractions and listen to whatever music I have a taste for that day. I put a lamp over my laptop - desktop is on the other side of the desk - to keep my focus on it.

I have a closed door policy when I'm writing. But when I'm in the second draft and beyond that door is open.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Ingrid wrote: "oh okay. that makes sense. and yeah sometimes i do that with my door too"

I write in the lounge usually after 3.30 am until about 6 and then again from 8.30 til 12.30 with breaks for coffee and feeding the chickens pegging the washing on the line. Everyday stuff, it stops me from getting blocked or bogged down. The book I am in the process of finishing is weighing me down. Heavy Genre, serial killer, mega weird, plus a dead jewish cannibal, four missing german exchange students, a murdered girl, a hanging on by a thread to life policeman and his father in law in a hit and run!

Yep I am tying up loose ends and heading for the grand finale, each loose end is leading nicely to the next which means I have done my work correctly. I hope the Publishers pick up their option!

Jacob Lochner (jdlochner) | 24 comments I hope so too!!

Haha yep exactly. It's like sometimes i crave some chips and then i get some and put it out in front of me, and I pay more attention to devouring the chips than focus on the writing. Haha. Chips are best left for watching tv after all I suppose hehe. Yes *-* ~

message 118: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Lochner (jdlochner) | 24 comments I'm the same way, except with beverages. I tend to go through glasses of water like a madman when I'm plugging away.

message 119: by Agent (new)

Agent S.D. I can get through a huge bag of chips in an hour while I'm writing. ;)

message 120: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Lochner (jdlochner) | 24 comments What sort of chips are we talking here? I mean, that's important!

message 121: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Yes, i can only snack on chips i like. The kind of chip is very important.

message 122: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments How can you eat and type at the same time? It requires the use of all your fingers and even one thumb! And if they are covered in grease and salt its cloggin up your keyboards as well as your arteries!

message 123: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Actually i only snack while writting by hand and rarely on chips.

That's why I always write with a large stack of paper towels nearby.

I have to type everything out on my laptop but I keep a notepad with me to scribble notes that need to be made, changes and just random things that come to mind.

Nina (ninadangelo) | 2 comments Ingrid wrote: "Where do you work when you write? I work in front of the tv or in a quiet room.

I love listening to music while I write and usually write in my room on the bed - I can block out noises in the background and just write in peace. I always keep a notepad with me to scribble notes and changes that I need to make further down the track but I type everything. I used to be able to write by hand but not anymore.

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments I write in my room, at the barn, in a really big tree in my woods that has a huge brach a can comfotrtably sit on, or any quiet place.

message 131: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments I live in the country, so they are pretty common. My neighboors have one but they don' t live there and we watch the proprty, keep an eye on their horses and they allow us to hunt, hang out in the barn or with the horse when we want. I'm best friends with their daughter. My favorite place to be is up in the loft among the hay with the barn cats.

message 132: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Normally it's pretty quiet. Just the ocasionaly bird song accompinaed by horse whinnies. ((In the winter they will nap on me/ next me or even try to sleep on my notebook.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Kevin

That is a real bad habit to get into friend, take it from one who's husband drank himself to death! Sober is better, drinking until you arrive at a state of drunkeness is really bad. I am sure if you looked at your writing sober it would make more sense!

Don't get me wrong I am not anti drinking just anti over doing it. Moderation is the key, and if you can't moderate it you need to get professional help!

message 134: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments I listen to music when i write, it helps me think.

message 135: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Silence works best for me and on my own, me and keyboard and hopefully inspiration.

message 136: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Oh, see music can inspire me so that's why i like it. It can help me fight off writers block.

message 137: by Brei (new)

Brei | 3 comments I usually work outside on my deck I like to write in the evenings and at night, if I work outside I don't inadvertently wake up my husband and son cursing when I get stuck

message 138: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Well whatever system works , i like to write at night but can't during the school year.

message 139: by Sam (new)

Sam (lit-brit) Everywhere and anywhere. I will write at the dining table, or on my laptop sitting front of the TV. I don't like alot of human noise....I know that sounds weird, but I can't write if my husband or daughter are playing around the house, yet I can write with the TV on or the radio!

message 140: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) | 2500 comments Well i particulary don't like human noise either but like listening to music.

I would have thought there would have been constant distractions in a coffee shop, mind there would also be lots of inspiration in the form of characters and people say and do they funniest things without realising it!

I seem to write everywhere! Even in class while my professors are droning on and on and on...I work best in someplace really quiet though like my dorm room or my room at home.

I have been trying that approach to it is starting to work, I stopped her watching television for 4 days and stopped her friend coming on Wednesday.

I'd already tried threatening to put it all in the rubbish bin and all she did was shove it under the bed and hide it so something had to be done!
