Shay | 408 comments I read a couple of hours a day before anyone gets up. I'm an early bird, I guess. I also read pretty fast- and I think the more you read the faster you get and I read a lot. I noticed that when I started reading a lot of non-fiction, I was pretty slow. But, I've gotten a lot faster. My normal reading speed is about 100 pages per hour. Maybe a little faster for some types of books, slower for others (like non-fiction).

At 100 pages per hour, do you actually retain what you've read? People think I'm a pretty fast reader for knocking off 1-3 books a week, but I could never do 100 pages per hour.

Carol (carolee888) I met my modest goal of 100 some time ago. It is a wonder because of that happened last year. Thinking about 2012 now.

I probably retain as much or more than most people. When I take reading tests, I read much faster than that and at over 90% comprehension. I must retain it because I got through college in a little over 4 years- Bachelor's through Masters.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Woo Hoo! I hit my goal of 185 by finishing The Summons by John Grisham today! Took me over a month to finish this book, but it got me to my goal. Now everything else through the end of the month is gravy!

Congrats, Melodie!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Technically, I have just met my goal of 200 books, but #'s 200 and 201 were short, in-between-the-numbers stories, and I'm not sure I should really count them. :D But I'll be picking up a cozy tonight, so I figure either way I've met my goal for the year.

Congrats, Linda! I've met my goal too, including short stories (that's the reason I put that number ;) )

Of course not! I am now four books above my goal (and tied with the number read for 2010), hoping to get two or three more in. We'll see how it goes over the holidays. I still have a couple Christmas projects to complete, and there are always too many holiday films I want to watch each year.

Marisa (moretta) | 4153 comments Mod
Well, same for me ;) I'm above my goal and I think there will be a couple or three more books before the end of the year :D

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Great job everyone!

message 175: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I met my goal and surpassed it, which is a good thing since some of my books were really short & I felt strange about counting them. But in the end, I think it all evened out & I feel comfortable that I met my goal.

message 176: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished the year up at 195....10 more than what I set my challenge for. For this year I've set my challenge at 150. I don't think I'll read quite as much this year.

Congrats, Melodie! I finished at 105--only one more than last year, but five above my goal, so not bad.

That's the beauty of an e-reader: you don't need a lot of space (mine fits in my bag) and you have a looooot of books.
