Very impressive. I have to ask..when do you sleep? LOL.

I read very fast. If I'm not disturbed, I could usually read a standard mystery novel in 2-3 hours. Of course, I can't read something like a Charles Dicken's novel at the same rate (words per minute).

Ahhh.. That is the key....I can read about that quickly too, but I don't have that much undisturbed time. Still, very impressive. You have good taste in books, too, I might add.
It's good to see everyone still fairly motivated in meeting their goals. I imagine we'll need this thread more to cheer each other on as the year goes by. I envy those who can read a book a day, and often wish I were a faster reader--but then, I also wonder how much of the story people retain when reading at that pace.

I retain most of the important things that I read. I've gone back and taken GR quizzes months after reading the books and can answer the questions. Probably my memory is "worse" on fluff reads because, to me, the point is escapism. But, I retain information well- graduated with a double major in a shade under 3 years- 22+ units a semester was easy. My master's took a little over a year. I've read over 2,000 pages a day well enough to write papers and ace all of my tests.

Melodie, I assumed that too. lol. I work, go to school, and sleep, so my goal is a little smaller....

I don't really work as most people would define work. I only put in about 5-6 full days a month. Not even really a full day, I think, more like 5-6 hours. Other than that maybe an hour or two a day scattered here and there, mostly from home. I really detest working, I find nothing at all interesting or desirable about work. It's an interference with my real life, but a necessary one I grudginly do.

I hear that, LOL! I hate trudging off to the day job a few days a week but, sadly, I really could use a few more hours than I've been getting. Either that or a fat lottery win.

Wow, way to be out ahead of your goal, Joy!
I am currently 34 for 100, three books ahead of my goal according to that nice little meter.
How is everyone else doing on their goals?

I had originally put my number at 184, but cut it back in February to 165 as it wasn't a good month for me. I'm thinking about putting it back up to 184. I think I'm at 59 books right now, and should finish up the other 2 I'm reading by Saturday.

Come on Caitlin -- you can do it! : )
Karen: I was hesitant at first to set a goal of 100, even though I read 104 last year. To be honest, I'm a little surprised I've been able to keep a steady pace. I've managed 8 or 9 books every month so far. I have a few longer books planned for May and June, so we'll see how it goes.

(I think being out of commission with the flu for two weeks helped boost my progress.)

I usually only read up to four books a month, but lately I've had some chunksters, so my average was down. You guys make me feel like a weakling with my goal of 36 to 40! The computer gets in the way - I was never like this before they came into being!
Kim: Even 40 books a year is far above the average American, so be proud in the number of books you do read! There's no race here, though it does help keep you motivated and on track when checking in regularly with others, as we do in this thread. Everyone reads at a different pace and has different things going on in their lives, so just keep doing what you're doing. *grin*
In my case, I set a goal of 200. I'm in track, but I'm not sure if I can continue in the same way. In any case, it's not something I'm very pressed.

My worst time of year is during the holidays- November and December. So, I don't want to increase my goal thinking I can maintain the pace all year. I think I need the beginning of the year, when I'm ahead of schedule, to balance out the end of the year. My goal is 375 and I've read 133 books so far.

I am currently on book 45 towards my goal of 100, three books ahead of where I should be. Yay! I have a number of longer books lined up for the next couple of months, so this comfortable lead may come in handy, lol.

No, Goodreads doesn't count re-read. If you want to include them, you have to choose another edition and set the new read date at that edition.
