Tai (msglam) | 101 comments My goal is to read 200 books this year. So it begins......
1. I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
So after sitting on my TBR list for months I decided to finally read it and boy am I happy I did. The blurb on the back just didn’t draw me in but after seeing a preview for the upcoming movie I knew I needed to read the book before going to see the movie (the book is always better) so I read it and I LOVED it. Action, mystery, romance, great characters this book has it all. The characters were well-developed and relatable. I instantly took to the main character empathizing with his struggles. The story itself kept me flying through the book wanting to know more with just enough information that I am not frustrated or confused as to what is going on. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds and I will definitely be purchasing the next in the series.
2. Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep
It took me a chapter or two to get use to the writing style but once I got adjust I flew through this book. The killing scenes and descriptions of death were graphic and detailed but surprising for me it enhanced the story making it come more to life for me as I could clearly picture what was going on and what Gin was seeing. I really liked Gin as the main character she is the strong yet vulnerable, underlyingly good yet flawed. I look forward to learning more about her and her past. The plot while predictable was still enjoyable. I really liked the dialogue too especially between Gin and Finn they had me cracking up with their bickering. I gave this book 3 stars because while I enjoyed reading it. It was predictable in that I could see what was going to happen next and I wasn’t drawn into it where I couldn’t put it down. But I will be getting the next in the series to see what Gin gets into next.
3. Shadowspell (Faeriewalker, #2) by Jenna Black
This book was not what I expected. There were some plot developments that I did not anticipate which kind of through me for a loop cause I was expecting the book to go in the direction that it did. However I still really liked the book. The dialogue and the characters which I loved in the first book was still present in this book but it didn’t drawn me in like last time cause I found Dana character annoying at times because she couldn’t stick with her decisions. I also missed the Kimber Ethan interactions that were present in the first book. All in all it was a great read… keeping my interest and turning the pages….I just expected more which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
4. Awakened (House of Night, #8) by P.C. Cast
So once again I am wondering why I like this series and I keep reading it. While I didn’t hate the book quite the contrary actually I liked it for the most part but there are parts of the book where I shake my head and wonder…Really?????. Yes I will continue to read the series because I am too curious to find out how it all ends now to stop plus I love certain characters like Stark and Damen and the Twins to name a few but I am finding myself not as engrossed in the story as I was in the beginning of the series. After the last book I expected more action and way more plot development happening but I felt as if this book dragged along too with drama and mild developments thrown in here in there teasers for what I hope is covered in the next book. All in all not my favorite of the series but I liked it.
5. Song of the Moon (Artemis Lupine, #1) by Catherine Banks Pleasantly surprised but this book….I must admit I do see the Twilight similarities but nonetheless I really liked it and am looking forward to the next book of the series. While at first I didn’t get the family dynamics and what all was going on I found myself engrossed in the story wondering what was going to happen next. There were some parts where I felt as details were thrown in as an after thought to answer questions that weren’t previously addressed and characters that did a complete 180 in a matter of chapters but I am hoping for an explanation in future books thus I didn’t let it affect my star rating that heavily. I rated this book 4 stars because it keep me engaged not wanting to put it down and while I find the whole pack family dynamics a little too close (lol) it was thoroughly entertaining. I just LOVE Kou and Matt those two kept me laughing. I am looking forward to seeing how the series unfolds.

Sashana I just read I am Number Four a few days ago, Tai. What did you think? And do you know there will be a movie this year?

message 3: by Tai (new)

Tai (msglam) | 101 comments I LOVED I came across the book awhile ago but it just didn't grab my attention so I kept putting off buying it but when I saw the movie preview I really wanted to see the movie so I figured I'd read the book first and I am so glad I did. I can't wait for the next book. What did you think? Are you going to see the movie when its released?

Sans Go, Tai! How was the Trylle Trilogy? And did you love Tiger's Curse? I've heard such amazing things about it that I bought a copy already.

message 8: by Tai (new)

Tai (msglam) | 101 comments I just loved the Tyrlle Trilogy. Amanda Hocking is quickly becoming one of my favorite indie authors. I am going to pick up her Hollowland series next. Have you read that one? Tiger curse was okay I liked it but like you I had heard amazing things about it so I think I went in with too high expectations. It took me about 1/4 of the book to get into it and even then I had no trouble putting it down (for me amazing means I will be so engrossed in the story that I will neglect all else until I finished reading it).

message 9: by Sans (new)

Sans I haven't heard of Hollowland. I'll be sure to look for that one too.

Well shoot. I really should know better than to believe the hype. I'll put Tiger's Curse a bit lower in my TBR pile then. Thank you!

17. The Iron Queen (Iron Fey, #3) by Julie Kagawa AMAZING!!!!!! This book rates 5 stars because it was so good that not only did it live up to expectations it surpassed them… I tucked myself in the my favorite reading corner and just read, read, read losing myself in the Julie Kagawa’s magical world. I laughed, I cried, I swooned. I screamed, I angst and bit my nails all the while hoping the last page wouldn’t come. This was one of the few books that I can honestly say I didn’t want to end cause I just didn’t want leave the characters and their world behind. However I was content with where the story ended especially since it means I get another whole book in the Iron fey series which to enjoy…SQUEEE!!!! I enjoy all the characters from Meghan to Glitch to Queen Maab. This book has good guys you want to cheer and root for and bad guys you can’t wait to see how they get what they deserve. My favorite character is still Puck oh that boy makes me laugh and he does not disappoint always having a smart remark at the ready to dispense out. Meghan’s character grew so much in this series I was very happy to see the potential that was shown in the first book finally come to fruition. Ash well if you thought Ash couldn’t get any more delicious well you were wrong….. icy no more Ash soon worthiness tops the charts in this book. Grim well Grim is still Grim appearing and disappearing when necessary. My new character favorite is Razor. As destructive as he is, he is just adorable…I want one for my very own. As far as the plot well didn’t I mention…… I laughed, I cried, I swooned. I screamed, I angst and bit my nails….never a dull moment in this book. Everything flowed and enabled me to stay engrossed in the story from the very first page to the end. This book does not disappoint Julie Kagawa outdid herself with this book. LOVED IT!!!!!!!

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Tai, How did you like Iron King as compared to Iron Queen? I couldn't get into Iron King and I'm not sure if I wasn't in he mood for the book or what. I usually love Fay books I did like the cliffhanger ending, however. I've got The Iron Daughter and do plan to read it.

message 13: by Tai (new)

Tai (msglam) | 101 comments Sorry to hear Iron King wasn't an enjoyable experience for you. Sometimes I find when I can't get into a book especially when its typically my cup of tea it is due to the writing style, do you think that was why you couldn't get into it? Iron Queen is my favorite of the series. I really like series with strong heroines and Meghan comes really grows throughout the series which is one of the reasons I love this series. You should check out http://www.enterthefaeryworld.com/ it has a free novella (Winter's Passage) it tells the story of what happen between Iron King and Iron Daugther.

message 14: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I'm not sure what happened and I keep thinking I just must not have been in the mood for the book. I don't think I've ever had an adverse reaction to someone's writing style. I can't even put my finger the reason I didn't get in to it. Maybe there was just too much going on and I was too tired at the time. Usually a book hooks me in but I felt like an outsider as I read. Very strange for me. I'm going to attempt the second book and see if it can hook me.

Sashana How was Demonglass and The Iron Witch, Tai? I have them both but haven't managed to get to them yet.

message 17: by Tai (new)

Tai (msglam) | 101 comments I LOVED Demonglass!! I really like how the story developed. I can't wait till the next book comes out. I highly recommended it.

Iron Witch was okay. It took everything I had to just get through it. It was kind of flat for me I don't feel like I got much information as none of my questions were answered when I finished reading.
