If you liked Water for Chocolate you might check out The Hummigbird's Daughter. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10.... It's based on a true story and also takes place in northern Mexico. Try the reviews, at least.

It helped to read the book when I watched the movie. I was about halfway through the book when I saw the movie. Didn't take away from the book or movie just very easy to see the differences. I still enjoyed them both.

Also completely in love with Kiana Davenport. Just finished House of Skin and am now reading CANNIBAL NIGHTS Pacific Stories Volume II. She can write the pants off of most contemporary writers!!!

It's gritty and relevant. I like how Kindle Singles and others are putting out creative nonfiction stories longer than an article but shorter than a book. Works well as an ebook.
