Pre-Publication Galley from Zondervan (yes, I do get a lot of these things. Cute so far, set in a rural town in Indiana with a lot of Amish.)

The Player of Games - Iain M. Banks
Giving another of his books a try, didn't like the first one much, friends say this one is actually better. Not sure yet.

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, so far it so beyond mundane and boring. Blargh, I don't like it.

I am stop and go on the book. it is very hard for me to read. I'm sensitive to the issues presented in this book but I'm :glad: I have it.

message 658: by Helen (new)

Helen I started Time's Edge on the way to work today (yes I'm behind!), I'm really enjoying it so far.

message 659: by Peter (new)

Peter Medley | 3 comments The Perfect Deceit

An intriguing and fascinating book on how countries vie against each other to be top dog on the world stage. Spies, double agents, love triangles -- it’s all in a days work! In today’s interconnected world, this book gives one an interesting perspective on how much competition goes on behind the scenes with ambitions and stakes running high. Hearts are broken and for some power is gained. High drama and lots of mind games makes for perfect summer reading!

message 661: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) I'm currently a few chapters into Jane Eyre and I'm wondering why it took me so long to ever pick up this book! Probably because I hated Wuthering Heights so much. Just goes to show you should never judge one sister by the other!

message 662: by Helen (new)

Helen I prefer Wuthering Heights, I used to read it every year.

message 663: by eleanor (new)

eleanor | 73 comments I'm in the middle of a crazy summer but I must ask; if I was to start w/a Steinbeck novel (not 'of mice & men' please) any suggestions. I hear 'The Grapes of Wrath' is Excellent but aren't there a few books similar to the theme of the 1 named above?
I saw a cover w/James Dean & got a little nuts. Don't know why.. He was before my time

Hmm... I'm definitely intrigued by the book you reviewed! I might have to pick that up once it's released.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments Thanks! According to the author, she already saw it on the shelves of Barnes & Noble. :)

message 669: by Cammie (new)

Cammie I'm trying to finish The Woods by Harlan Coben and decided to start this weekend Love Finds You in Homestead, Iowa by Melanie Dobson and The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen

message 671: by Helen (new)

Helen Cate, how scary was it? I don't like horror as it keeps me up but loved Forest of Hands & Teeth and Feed. Would I like it do you think?

I started The Dead Girls' Dance (The Morganville Vampires, #2) by Rachel Caine , Heist Society by Ally Carter , The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa today. I normally don't start three books at once but I was bored.

I was surprised by how much I liked Jane Eyre. I think Wuthering Heights will be my next book. It seems like people either love it or hate it.

message 678: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) That's the general impression I get, too, Jenny. I have a friend that loves it and I just... bleh. But I loved Jane Eyre and, I have to say, I was a little surprised by that, too.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments Jane Eyre.... so much love for that book.

Just finished reading the ARC of Shadows on the Sand A Seaside Mystery by Gayle G. Roper and reviewed it here: http://wp.me/p1CKWU-63

(The Doctor is my kind of fluffy)

message 681: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) Just started The House of the Seven Gables. I wasn't particularly interested in it, but it's a Group Read for another group and I've been to the house it's based on so I thought I should give it a go. People seem to either love it or hate it, so we'll see if I finish it or not (I usually always finish a book, but since this is 500+ pages and I have so many other books I want to read, I think I'll be changing this policy).

message 682: by Helen (new)

Helen I'm on Deadline - loving it so far.

message 683: by Scott (new)

Scott I finished Bag of Bones this morning. I thought it was an excellent ghost story.

I read that when I was on Vacation in Salem last year. Never made it to the tour of the house, but I decided that download it for free on my Kindle rather than paying for a copy at the witch museum.

At least now I can say I read it. I somehow managed to avoid American Lit in high school.
