I WILL read at least 50 books this year! My personal goal is 75 but it has to be at least 50. I love challenges so this will be one that I must live up to. I am also a member of the 1001 books to read before you die so about 95% of my books will be from that list.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings By Maya Angelou was Ok. After reading this novel, I have no strong feelings toward it. It was like the book just ended but after it was over I didn't love it but I didn't hate it, it was ok. I would have liked to have more of an opinion about it or rather even wanted to hate it, at least I would have had a reaction from it. It was just blah.

Old Man and The Sea was a nicely written quick read. It was a little to simple of a story for me but other than that it was alright.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Laws of Attraction- I thought over all it was alright but just a little too poltergeist for me.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Gone With the Wind was a beautiful and long book but it was worth it. At first i didn't think I would like ti but I fell in love with it.

Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, very nice short stories rolled into one book, 4 stars.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

The Godfather was an amazing book, surprisingly I have never seen the movie but it ws a great novel 5 stars

A Christmas Carol was alright 2 stars

Rose (obsessedreader9) | 215 comments You consider A Christmas Carol just all right? Perhaps the story has become too familiar to you. I think it's brilliant (and obviously, a true classic).

Actually, I didn't know too much about it before reading it. I just didn't feel one way or another about it. Usually you either have strong feelings of like or dislike after reading a novel, but this just gave me a "blah" feeling.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

The Secret History- it was good, 3 stars

Native Son by Richard Wright, 5 stars, definitely the best book I have read this year

message 14: by Harold (new)

Harold | 119 comments I read Native Son when I was in college in the 1960s. Iirc it was my choice of 3 or 4 books that one of my instructors gave for a book review.I guess I'm due for a revisit, but Bigger Thomas is unforgettable. I thought the book was a classic.

I loved the Da Vinci Code it had so many unexpected twists

message 16: by Harold (new)

Harold | 119 comments What I liked about it was all the knowledge the author gave us while telling his tale. That's been the main thing about his books. He used the same basic plot outline for his last three books but it was ok - the treat was in the way he told it and the knowledge hi imparted.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read any of his other books yet, that was my first. Do you like them?

message 18: by Harold (new)

Harold | 119 comments I enjoyed all of them. A lot actually - but I have to say he used the same template for "Angels and Demons", "The Da Vinci Code" and "The Lost Symbol". All the stuff with the female sidekick that becomes his romantic interest happened the exact same way in all three books - BUT he makes it so interesting with all the information he provides that I'll buy his next book with no hesitation.

I am loving the Women's Murder Club Series by Patterson.

Harold | 119 comments I see where you're reading "Dracula". You'll love it. I read it first in the 1960s and have reread it two or three times since - as recently as a couple of years ago. When I first read it I found it really scary!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Left Behind- absolutely love it definitely will continue the series

message 22: by Harold (new)

Harold | 119 comments How did you like Dracula?

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I like it so far I have been reading my other books first though so I'm only on like 50 pages into it
