Sandra | 25908 comments Started Shadow Kin (The Half-Light City, #1) by M.J. Scott and very intriguing it is. Heroine whilst a capable assassin is downtrodden & a virtual slave to the Blood Lord (bad guy). Will our Hero save her?

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Reading They Call Me Death by Missy Jane . A little different from most shifter books. There is now a wall dividing the humans from the shifters. The Heroine works on the wall, killing any shifter that tries to cross it. She notices 1 person (shifter?) watching her......

message 1913: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I finished Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor . Laini Taylor is an incredible writer, her words and imagery are just indescribable. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the second half of the book. It was weird because the book itself almost read like a prequel. I definitely preferred the first part but I'd say expect quite a lot of romance...

Probably will read Raised by Wolves (Raised by Wolves, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes next :)

Currently reading: Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins

message 1916: by Daffodil (last edited Nov 02, 2011 10:24AM) (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I've been kind of MIA over the last couple months, in a real reading funk and having to force myself to finish books. I only got around to 9 in September & 12 in October and probably wouldn't have gotten around to some of those if it hadn't been for BINGO. Now to some people that might sound like good numbers, but I usually read at least 23 books in a month if not more. The last week of October was pretty good though and I seem to be coming out of my mood (or whatever it is). The lack of interest affected my time spent on GR and SOS also, so I thought I'd drop in and list a couple of favorites.

September hits:
I absolutely loved Venom (Elemental Assassin, #3) by Jennifer Estep . Gin's such an interesting character and I can't wait to see what happens next in Tangled Threads. I also thought Storm's Heart (Elder Races, #2) by Thea Harrison was an excellent read, even if it wasn't quite as outstandingly fantastic as the first.

October hits:
Cast in Ruin (Chronicles of Elantra, #7) by Michelle Sagara West hands down, my favorite read of the month. Michelle Sagara rarely disappoints and this book was an excellent entry in the Chronicles of Elantra. If you enjoy fantasy, definitely give this series a try. Running a close second was Firewalker (Stormwalker, #2) by Allyson James . Shadow Walker is sitting on my TBR and I'm going to try and get to it this month.

Currently reading:
Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar Understanding Philosophy Through Jokes by Thomas W. Cathcart My librarian, who knows my general interests, recommended this for a change of pace. It's actually kind of interesting. The authors use puns, jokes and humor to illustrate philosophical theories. They've already shown how Sherlock Holmes used inductive logic and not deductive. LOL.
The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper The first book was a funny read, so I have high hopes for this one.

message 1917: by Lis (last edited Nov 07, 2011 05:24PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Finished Darkness Rising (Dark Angels, #2) by Keri Arthur , started Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5) by Chloe Neill but it just wasn't doin' it for me. Set it aside and moved on to Death Magic by Eileen Wilks and pretty good so far.

Working my way thru Anna Strong on audio and currently listening to Legacy (Anna Strong Chronicles, #4) by Jeanne C. Stein .

Seem to have a red cover theme going here...

message 1918: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Finished Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5) by Chloe Neill , but it was a bit of a struggle. What happened to the awesomeness of the first books?

Listening to Bossypants by Tina Fey and it is hilarious!

message 1920: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Haven't been able to read much recently but just about able to squeeze in a couple of stories from Angels of Darkness by Ilona Andrews , which is quite good for an anthology. Very pleasantly surprised with Sharon Shinn - I haven't read anything from her before and was intrigued by the world, so will definitely look into her series. Ilona Andrews had a good input (of course, can they do any wrong?), dark and twisted which was nice. A bit disappointed with Nalini Singh, if I'm honest. Not one of her finest, it was a bit... boring. My least favourite by far :/
Only got Meljean Brook left now, hope it's a goodie!

message 1921: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I put Drink Deep down around 50%, I just wasn't that into it. I am listening to Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor and I am loving it so far, I am about 30% in. But two things bother me: 1) that everyone around her has misled her or kept her background secret from her and, 2) the genre shift everyone is talking about. I don't know if I can handle the genre shift. :) But so far I love the prose, the characters and pretty much everything.

I read back to back, several contemporary roomance books:

Shelter Mountain (Virgin River, #2) by Robyn Carr Whispering Rock (Virgin River, #3) by Robyn Carr A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River, #4) by Robyn Carr and I am currently reading Second Chance Pass (Virgin River, #5) by Robyn Carr

message 1922: by Christina T (last edited Nov 13, 2011 12:08AM) (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments I have a horrible habit of starting a new book almost daily without actually finishing the one from the day before. So I currently have over a dozen books that I am literally in the middle of. I finished a short Harlequin Intrigue yesterday His Secret Life (Colby Agency Elite Reconnaissance Division #2) (Harlequin Intrigue #1157) by Debra Webb I don't read these that often but the Harlequins are decent enough filler books. This was my first by Debra Webb and it wasn't that great. Too much going on. Not enough romance.
I also finished Wife for Hire by Janet Evanovich which was an ok book...another filler. Nothing fabulous unless you enjoy Elsie Hawkins (an early prototype of Grandma Mazur from the Plum series) as much as I do. Then you may very well enjoy the book.
I am almost finished with Enchanting the Lady (Relics of Merlin, #1) by Kathryne Kennedy also a new to me author and although the heroine is not what I typically like I am very much enjoying the book.

Thank you Steph for explaining how to add my covers!

Love the Virgin River series. I am a bit behind in them though. I still have to read the last 4 or 5 books. I just love the setting. Reading one feels like visiting with old friends.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Christina they really are! I wish she would revisit with Ian and Marcie from
the first Christmas book she did. They were my favorite so far.

message 1925: by Mafi (new)

Mafi | 63 comments I'm reading Mercy by Jodi Picoult The Sister by Poppy Adams The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

message 1926: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Catherine: I enjoyed Enchanting the Lady (Relics of Merlin, #1) by Kathryne Kennedy , too.

I liked elements of Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor but then it took a u-turn into OMGodNo-town.

I really enjoyed Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand but it heavily implicated a love triangle -major turnoff so I won't be reading the sequel.

Next up: Genesis by Bernard Beckett

message 1927: by Lis (last edited Nov 15, 2011 04:24PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Finished Death Magic by Eileen Wilks now I'm torn between Rule and Cullen in my own fantasy world.
Also went back and finished Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5) by Chloe Neill and not sure exactly how I'm feeling about the ending yet, more of a hmmmm than a wow. She sure does like her twists and cliff hangers.

Started The Rift Walker (Vampire Empire, #2) by Clay Griffith and liking it so far. Listening to Crossroads (Anna Strong Chronicles, #7) by Jeanne C. Stein again.

It's almost the end of 2011 & I still need 2 books to complete the "Back to the Future" challenge. I didn't think it would be this difficult to find two 2009 books, but it seems like every freaking book I pick up these days is a 2011 release. *sigh* I will persevere!

message 1932: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments Finished Vampire Mine (Love at Stake, #10) by Kerrelyn Sparks which I thought was an ok addition the the Love at Stake series but to be honest it had a bit too much "Oh Heavenly Father" stuff...but I guess with an angel as a heroine I shouldn't complain.

Currently reading Blood on Silk (Awakened by Blood, #1) by Marie Treanor I Thirst for You (Primes, #2) by Susan Sizemore Obsession Untamed (Feral Warriors, #2) by Pamela Palmer Moonlight Warrior (Midnight Bay, #1) by Janet Chapman Once Bitten Twice Dead (Guardians of the Dark, #2) by Bianca D'Arc Wicked Game (WVMP Radio, #1) by Jeri Smith-Ready all of which I've been "reading" for at least two weeks (in Wicked Game's case 4 months). I just keep putting most of them down to read something else. Need to finish them need to finish them need to finish them (my new mantra).

I have read one book Raised by Wolves (Raised by Wolves, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes , a bit of an anthology Angels of Darkness by Ilona Andrews and a very short story The House at Cobb End by Karen Chance this month and it doesn't look like it'll get better than that. I have books but where is the time??

message 1935: by Regina (new)
