Steph Ann | 1220 comments Cindy, I'll definitely let you know! I really wasn't in the mood for it when I started it, but it's moving along pretty quickly, which is always nice. :)

Yay! 5 stars -Snap! Glad you enjoyed it, Steph!

I see you're reading Wolf's Glory (After the Crash, #2) by Maddy Barone . I hope you like that one as much as I did.The sequel was Sleeping With the Wolf (After the Crash, #1) by Maddy Barone good, it put some events in perspective with a history lesson from someone who lived through the apocalypse. Scary stuff. Sometimes it just sucks being a woman. The next book, Tracking Tami is going to be an emotional one, with a traumatised victim as a heroine.

Huh, all the above books have blue, pink and purple in them. And they're all good. That a mark of a good book, I wonder?

message 1608: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments LOL at Ames, you've swapped #1 with #2 in the After the Crash stakes.

I'll get Wolf's Glory (After the Crash, #2) by Maddy Barone next time I'm at the ebook store, it's on the wishlist. Looking forward to it.

Now - it's on to the M/M books I have been putting off..... A Strong Hand by Catt Ford The Blue Moon Cafe by Rick R. Reed and Julian's Jeopardy (Dawn Endeavor, #3) by Marie Harte . Yummy.....

message 1611: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Thanks, Ames. I'll look for the others in the series. I enjoyed it as well.

Just finished Spell Bound and really enjoyed it. But, it ends on a cliffhanger :\

Also working my way through Black Heart Loa (Hoodoo, #2) by Adrian Phoenix when I have time to read. Enjoying that so far as well.

message 1612: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Enjoying Heartless (The Parasol Protectorate, #4) by Gail Carriger for bingo. I can well understand you either love or hate this series, I'm in the love camp. LOL

message 1613: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurazal) Just finished "Black Jewels" trilogy (the first book was ok, but I didn't like both second and third). Now I'm torn between "Ward against death" and "Magic to the bone"... Can't quite decide which one to settle with...

message 1614: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments Finished The Help by Kathryn Stockett . It was really good. I haven't decided yet what rating I'm going to give it, but it definitely sucked me in and made me want to keep reading. Plus, it made me cry, which is usually a pretty good sign that I'm feeling connected to the characters.

Now, I'm currently about 70% of the way through Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead . I'm hoping to finish it tonight so I can move on to some August challenge books. :)

message 1615: by Mafi (new)

Mafi | 63 comments I'm reading Girls in Pants The Third Summer of the Sisterhood (The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants, #3) by Ann Brashares and I'm loving it!

message 1616: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Currently reading:
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper for the bingo read.

Rules of Prey (Lucas Davenport, #1) by John Sandford because I was feeling nostalgic for the early Lucas Davenport after reading #21.

This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost Hmmm. Technically it's not current if I haven't touched it in a week. LOL. Planning on getting back to it though.

I'm not sure what I'll be reading next. My heads hurting from all the choices. I have too many to be mentioned on my TBR (including Iron Duke and Dragon Bound, which are on my BOM radar) , another 20 checked out from the library. And then, I'm picking up the following from the library tonight:

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver Spell Bound (Women of the Otherworld, #12) by Kelley Armstrong Second Sunrise (Lee Nez, Book 1) by Aimée Thurlo Cry Dance by Kirk Mitchell Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips .

I'm leaning towards one of the BOM books.

message 1617: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 18 comments Just finished The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa and Waking the Witch (Women of the Otherworld, #11) by Kelley Armstrong

I tried to read Darkling (Sisters of the Moon, #3) by Yasmine Galenorn but just can't get into it. I think i'll have to put it aside and try in a few days.......

Next up are Spell Bound (Women of the Otherworld, #12) by Kelley Armstrong and Killing Time by Elisa Paige

message 1618: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurazal) OooooK, it's official now - I'm taking a break from reading...:(
I tried this Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin , then this one Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon Monk and few pages of Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer, # 1) by Melanie Card ... Then I sampled The Better Part of Darkness (Charlie Madigan, #1) by Kelly Gay , nibbled Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) by C.E. Murphy and managed to get totally nauseated with Dead on the Delta (Annabelle Lee, #1) by Stacey Jay ... And then I caught myself thinking "there's no way all of these books are bad. It must be me."
So I'm taking a temporal brake in a hope that few days of non-reading will fix my attitude:(

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Laura - that happens to all of us. Maybe try something completely different. Or something from a genre you used to read, but haven't picked up in a while.

I've only read the Jazz Parks and Charlie Madigan, but they were both 4 stars for me. I've heard really great things about the others. I just bought Dead on the Delta today!

Hope your reading funk passes quickly.....

Lis | 4037 comments Finished Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison and Loved It!! Also finished Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed, #9) by Lara Adrian and enjoyed it.
Listened to Spell Bound (Women of the Otherworld, #12) by Kelley Armstrong and it was good. Going back to Industrial Magic & Waking the Witch for a revisit, I've forgotten too many things since my last read.
Going back to Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks, #2) by Jennifer Rardin , lost interest and shelved it for a couple of weeks.

message 1624: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurazal) Thanks for your support, Cindy! Your "Laura - that happens to all of us." line made me feel better... :) Anw, I'm flying to Crete island for a nice and sunny vacation time in 10 days & no way (I mean NO WAY) I'm leaving my kindle, stuffed with Dante Valentine The Complete Series (Dante Valentine, #1-5) by Lilith Saintcrow , Armageddon Bound (Demon Squad #1) by Tim Marquitz , Dark Awakening (Dark Dynasties #1) by Kendra Leigh Castle , Pagan by Andrew Chapman , Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark, #11) by Kresley Cole , Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9) by J.R. Ward , Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione and some other books, behind.
Holiday resolution: reading funk, or no reading funk, I'm going to plant my backside in chaise-longue and enjoy the read! (Good plan.)

Finshed it yesterday evening. I really enjoyed it, Harper's humor appeals to me.

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Wow! Enjoy for us all, Laura! Sounds great!

Glad you liked it, Daffodil. I thought they were pretty funny. And, I recently spotted a 4th book coming out ... Can't remember when though and I'm on my phone, so I can't pull up the cover.

I'm kinda bummed. I'm not really feeling Black Heart Loa. I loved the first. A lot. Maybe I need to get further in? But, I'm about 35% and eh. I think I'm goin to put it aside and read one of my newest acquisitions. I'm thinking either Storm's Heart or Shadowflame or maybe Wolfsbane. Definitely got some fun choices.

Only 1 TSTL moment, easily glossed over as she decides to ride her motorbike that I didn't know she had and therefore gives me an August Genre Juice Challenge book. Yay!

message 1632: by Vivian (last edited Aug 03, 2011 07:59PM) (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Listened (yes, me, doing the audios) to Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs . Since my library has most of the series in audio, going to see if I can get through them. Love this series :D

Read Proven Guilty (The Dresden Files, #8) by Jim Butcher , another awesome series!

Listening (I know, I'm on a role) to Bitter is the New Black Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office by Jen Lancaster , which is funny for now, but may get annoying.

Going to start Pride (Shifters, #3) by Rachel Vincent tonight.

Sandra | 25908 comments Reading Megan's Mark (Breeds, #7) by Lora Leigh An early Breed book I hadn't read before :)

message 1634: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I just finished Ghost Story (The Dresden Files, #13) by Jim Butcher yesterday and it was freaking fantastic. I am going to miss those characters. I may re-read it.

I also just finished Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #10) by Laurell K. Hamilton , sad to say for me the series is starting to go downhill. Obsidian Butterfly was one of the best urban fantasy books I have ever read, ever. I actually recommend people just reading that even if they have never read another Anita Blake story (I know of 2 people who actually started the series, by first reading Obsidian). Oh well. 9-10 good books is really good for a series, so I will take what I can get. :)

I am now going to concentrate on 3 books I have had going for awhile, I want to finish all 3 by Sunday and have a clean slate for my third week of Bingo and I will be on vacation all week!

Feed (Newsflesh, #1) by Mira Grant Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Kushiel's Dart (Kushiel's Legacy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey (this last one by audio)

message 1635: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Is Dresdin ending with Ghost Story, Regina?

message 1636: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments No. I believe there are 23 books planned. :)

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments *raises hand and waves wildly in air*

I'm one of those that was introduced to Anita with Obsidian Butterfly. I was kind of a snob when it came to my books back then. If it wasn't thick enough (at least 300-400 pages) I wouldn't consider buying it, even at HPB! I figured I just wasn't getting enough book for my $$$$.

Read Obsidian Butterfly, fell in love, and started scouring HPB for anything else I could find. Had to buy about 3 of the earlier books at B&N cuz LKH was so popular that HPB couldn't keep her on the shelves!

I started reading Turnskin today. VERY different take on shifters. They are more like chameleons in that they can mimic any Skin (human) or Shifter shape and color there is.

Ok. Hubby hadn't mentioned it was, but your comment had me wonderin'. He did say he was liking it better than he was initially. :)

I'm reading Original Sin (Personal Demons, #2) by Lisa Desrochers

message 1640: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Well, he just said he was a bit disappointed. Which, for him, must mean he really didn't like it. He's a man of few words. LOL! But, last I checked, he was enjoying it more.

message 1641: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Cindy how funny!! I wonder why so many people I know start with Obsidian? Maybe bc it was published in the 2000s?

message 1642: by Lis (last edited Aug 04, 2011 04:30PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Finished Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks, #2) by Jennifer Rardin . Started Shadowflame (Shadow World, #2) by Dianne Sylvan and pretty good so far.

message 1643: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Lookin' forward to your thoughts on SF, Lis.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Regina - I started with Obsidian Butterfly for a couple of reasons.

First - the size of the book. At the time I wouldn't even look at the smaller books. I finished them too fast.....

Second - the title. LOVED IT! The blue cover almost turned me off (so NOT a blue person) but the title redeemed it for me.

I devoured the book in about 2 days (while working 10 hours a day) and within another 2 days had all the previous books in my hands. I then started at the beginning and read them straight thru. Including rereading OB.

I used to reread the entire series every couple of years, just to catch up, but haven't done that in quite a while. I REALLY need to catch up with it. I did read at least 3 books into the ardeur - I still love Anita's slutty self!

message 1645: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I'm reading Storm's Heart. Power has been out for a few hrs and we're reading by candlelight. Hubby said, "like the olden days.". Had to laugh b/c we're both reading eBooks. Maybe modern olden days? :)

message 1649: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments Finished First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones and loved it! Now reading Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre and am surprised how quickly it's moving. I just started it last night and am already almost 50% through it. I just keep saying "one more chapter and then I'll stop" and then I just keep going. :)

message 1650: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Cindy thanks for the explanation. That is so Interesting and a funny coincidence! So you still love the series? That is good to hear. I actually dont mind slutty if there is a good story. :)

@Steph - sirantha jax is a huge favorite of mine.

I finally finished Never Let Me Go. It was beautiful and well written but the first half was boring for me and the last half was so incredibly sad. There is a sex scene between two lovers that made me cry!
