the friendship between the girls is great. IT is a fun book. I keep meaning to read #2 but keep getting distracted. I started her Valkryie series but couldnt' finish book #1:
Hunting Season (The Gathering, #1) by Shelly Laurenston IT has some great scenes, but I just felt bored. I need to bump up #2 of Magnus Pack and just get to it.

It definitely is messed up. But so glad you liked it. Kat is the perfect protaganist/heroine.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I read an ARC of Outside In (Inside Out, #2) by Maria V. Snyder today and really enjoyed. Snyder mixes things up so much I didn't know who to trust or how things were going to play out.

I'm starting the ARC of Green Eyed Demon (Sabina Kane, #3) by Jaye Wells now.

I heart NetGalley!

I need to get on #3 of the Magnus Pack. We're loving her books, are they on the Best lists? If not, they should be!

message 54: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Yay, Vivian! So glad you read it and loved it!

Regina, the friends cracked me up throughout the book. I'm looking forward to Miki's story next.

Ames, I was going to ask for that one from NG too. Glad to hear you liked it. I'll submit my request soon. And, even sooner now that I see they have GED too. I want that one too!! :D I ❤ NetGalley TOO!

message 55: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Picked up a few challenge books from the library today. This is my first time reading a DTB since late Dec & God, I hope it doesn't end up feeling weird.

Currently reading: Glimmerglass (Faeriewalker, #1) by Jenna Black A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris

message 56: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Ok, I'm at a loss .... DTB? My first thought was "dumb text book" LOL! But, "doesn't end up feeling weird" didn't quite fit. LMAO!! So help!

I'm reading: Black Wings (Madeline Black, #1) by Christina Henry

message 57: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments My guess - Dead Tree Book!

message 58: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments LOL! DTB=Dead Tree Book aka print book. Stalking the Kindle forums for the past few months has made me fluent in eReader lingo.

I'm excited to hear what you think of Black Wings! A couple of my friends have read & reviewed it & the opinions are mixed. I'm worried....

message 59: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Steph - Did you ever read all your NetGalley books in the end? I read most of mine but still had a couple left over.

message 60: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LMAO!! Gotcha! Now that you say that I believe I've seen/heard that before. Oh well. Brains a little slow this AM.

Nah, it's all about what you think. :) It's offering up something different (helping the dead either go through the Door -heaven- or stay on Earth for all eternity as a spirit) and that's always nice. I'm only 20% or so into it, but so far I'm liking it.

message 61: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments LOL! You're right, it's about what I think. But when your book budget is limited, it's nice to know what people-whose likes/dislikes are similiar to yours-thinks before you decide to drop cash on a book. I do like the premise. Very different.

message 62: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Nah, I agree. Hard to just take a chance and buy a book these days without referring to GR and friends' opinions first. It's a curse and a blessing. :)

Hope you enjoy it! We'll compare notes after.

message 63: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments =) True that. I'm glued at the hip to GR now. Don't know how I read as many books as I did without this website. And thank you! I hope you enjoy it as well!

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Amy or "Ames" wrote: "@Steph - Did you ever read all your NetGalley books in the end? I read most of mine but still had a couple left over."

(Thanks, Ames, I had missed it, I think we posted around the same time)

I did actually. I read them all before the expiration date, much later than I'd wanted, but still just under the wire. Some were a bust, some were decent, one was pretty good.

I also got Winter Wishes from them before Christmas and read that one. I am behind on my reviews, but posted one for that one just for NetGalley. Don't wanna mess up my chances of getting more books from them in the future.

I have a few I'd like to request, but the first time I asked for too many at once. Don't want to do that again.

So, did yours expire before you could read them?

message 67: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I had 3 left that expired I think. #2 and #3 of the Sins series by Eve Silver and the #3 of the Glass series by Snyder which I have anyway in paperback. Not bad considering the number I had was in double digits.

I'm being careful now too. Reading them as soon as I get them and only the ones I really want.

message 68: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Really not bad. Me2 - reading right away and only the ones I really want to read right now. :)

message 69: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Started listening to Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, #1) by Carrie Vaughn earlier today. Good so far. I'm about 2hrs into it, 5 hrs to go.

message 70: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Still reading Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire, #1) by Deborah Cooke and enjoying it, but RL just keeps getting in the way. It should be banned!

Glad you're liking Kitty Steph, they only get better from here.

message 71: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL! RL does have a way of doing that.

Thanks, looking forward to continuing with it this year. :)

message 72: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay, finally finished Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire, #1) by Deborah Cooke and gave it a solid 4 stars.

Still deciding what to read next though. LOL.

message 73: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Yay! I will try to read some of that series this yr, hopefully.

message 74: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Between Christmas spent visiting family and getting the flu, I didn't get nearly the amount of reading done I wanted while on vacation. The last couple weeks I read:
Unholy Magic (Downside Ghosts, #2) by Stacia Kane Wonderfully dark and gritty.

Shadow Marked (Demon Bound, #1) by Anna J. Evans Bit of a disappointment for me. Liked the concept more than the execution.

Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan Another great find! Looking forward to more from this author.

Shadows Return (Nightrunner, #4) by Lynn Flewelling Middle of the road, hoping the fifth book reminds me why I loved the first three so much.

Bitten in Two (Jaz Parks, #7) by Jennifer Rardin Loved it, Jaz at her sarcastic best. So sad we only have one more book to look forward to from this author

Started Black Wings Black Wings (Madeline Black, #1) by Christina Henry last night. Nothing spectacular yet, nothing horrible either, it just seems pretty standard so far. The flashback/otherworld-memory/whatever-it-was left me worried about the author's intentions though. Crossing my fingers that convoluted plot contrivances don't make an appearance.

message 75: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I really need to try Queen of Shadows, everyone seems to love it. Is it UF or PNR?

message 76: by Regina (new)

message 78: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments I am reading Taken by Midnight (Midnight Breed, #8) by Lara Adrian

message 79: by Josie (new)

message 80: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I started on Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance . I'm enjoying it so far.

message 81: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I'm about half-way through Black Wings Black Wings (Madeline Black, #1) by Christina Henry now and I have to revise my opinion. I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit. It's not a 5 star book so far, but it is a fun read. The second flashback/otherworld-memory/what-the-heck-is-this-thing left me intrigued. Tonight I have to prepare some stuff for tomorrow's scrapbook club, but hopefully that won't take to long and I can get back into this quickly.

message 82: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL Daffodil! Same here. I finished it early this AM. I went from "cool! something a bit different" to "WTF?!" to "not bad at all". LOL! I'm looking forward to the next book. Do you think there's a quadrangle in the future? Actually guess I should save that ? for the BOM chat. CYA there when you're done.

Happy Scrappin' too! :)

message 83: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I think we're all on the same page with Black Wings (Madeline Black, #1) by Christina Henry , lol. It's...intriguing. I like it, and definitely want to continue with the next book, whenever that may be.

message 84: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Sounds like it, Vivian. :)

I totally understand. I was speechless, too. I had to read it a second time.

I'm reading Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick right now and I'm enjoying it. However, I GET that Patch is a sexy, mysterious creature...the romantic tension is killing me!

message 86: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I'm reading Dark Peril (Carpathians, #21) by Christine Feehan . After reading several UFs, I needed me some hot lovin'. LOL!

message 87: by Josie (last edited Jan 07, 2011 08:15AM) (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I know! I'll probably end up reading it again as well, the book sucks you in and there is no mercy for your emotions. Awesome though :)

I liked 'Hush, Hush' too, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure book. You know you shouldn't really enjoy it but you do! Haven't read 'Crescendo' yet, if I see it in the library I will but not making a special effort to.
I think the problem is that if the author hasn't planned for a trilogy/series they shouldn't really do one since book number one's all wrapped up and they have a nice HEA then they have to invent problems and find ways to link stuff all together. It never seems as good as a series that has been planned out.

I'm reading Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely, #2) by Melissa Marr . Okay so far.

message 88: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Finished Black Wings Black Wings (Madeline Black, #1) by Christina Henry on my lunch hour today. Overall, a pretty enjoyable read. I had a couple minor problems with Maddy's runaway smart mouth, but went ahead and gave it 4 stars out of the goodness of my heart. Well ... that and the fact that goodreads doesn't allow halfsies. LOL. When the third and fourth flashback/otherworld-memory/no-seriously-what-the-heck-is-this-thing rolled around, I had a big suspicion forming in the back of my mind as to what it was all about. What I can't believe is that I was so oblivious during the first two. So in the end, I was proved correct in my theory about what the flashback/otherworld-memory/aha-that's-what-that-thing-is was all about. But I'm not telling, you'll just have to read the book.

Going to start A Veiled Deception A Veiled Deception (A Vintage Magic Mystery, #1) by Annette Blair tonight.

There's something about this book because I don't really think it's a completely 4 star read, but I did it anyways just because.

Read Kitty Takes a Holiday (Kitty Norville, #3) by Carrie Vaughn , 3 stars. A little gloomy for me, but with a lot of good character and relationship development.

message 90: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL! Me too. Didn't feel 3 was enough, but 4 was a bit much. :)

message 91: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 08, 2011 03:25AM) (new)

Well Ladies this will be my last post for about a week as I'm leaving for Jamaica in a few short hours! Yay!!

I just finished At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost and I'm about halfway through Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill . I plan to start while I'm away A Werewolf in Manhattan by Vicki Lewis Thompson and Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls (Ghost Hunter Mystery, #5) by Victoria Laurie and if I can swing it possibly Kiss at Your Own Risk by Stephanie Rowe or Secondhand Spirits (A Witchcraft Mystery, #1) by Juliet Blackwell be we will see :0)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Still reading Glimmerglass (Faeriewalker, #1) by Jenna Black . I hate this damn book.

I'm also starting Pack Challenge (Magnus Pack, #1) by Shelly Laurenston & hopefully Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher for my buddy read. *crosses fingers*

message 94: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Oh no! That's on my TBR list. Is it that bad? What don't you like about it?

message 95: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Lethal, hopefully you'll love Pack Challenge, at least. LOL.

Just finished Last Dragon Standing (Dragon Kin, #4) by G.A. Aiken and really liked it. 4 stars. However you do need to have read all the previous novels. This is one series that you would miss a lot of what's happening, if you read out of order.

message 96: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I'm assuming you're referring to Glimmerglass (Faeriewalker, #1) by Jenna Black .

Without giving away spoilers, Dana is a complete boy-crazed idiot. I understand that this is a YA novel, so it's only natural for the protagonist to be angsty. But is it really necessary for her to obsess over the guy(s) every other paragraph? Seriously, the book will be in the middle of a fight scene & Dana will spontaneously think "I wonder if he likes me?" *headdesk*

Also, Glimmerglass is extremely boring. I'm over halfway through & nothing has happened. It's like a giant prologue.

message 97: by Josie (last edited Jan 08, 2011 06:21AM) (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Oh dear, doesn't sound like my thing at all. I've tried Jenna Black's other series and I didn't like that mainly because the protagonist really annoyed me. I'll put this down the bottom of the TBR stack, and might read it if I can't find anything else to read (doubtful). Thanks for the warning :)

Reading Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins . I'm actually really enjoying it so far. The girl doesn't seem like a boy-crazed idiot for a start, hopefully she stays interesting and witty for the rest of the book.

message 98: by Vivian (new)

Hehe. That was a book whose cover drew me in, darn me and my love for pretty books. When it was all over, I thought it was okay, but an editor could've cut the thing in half and made it soooo much better!

message 99: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I finished Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance the other day and loved it and have started on Tongues of Serpents A Novel of Temeraire (Temeraire, #6) by Naomi Novik which isn't as good as the previous books in the series.

message 100: by Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (last edited Jan 08, 2011 04:38PM) (new)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I am currently reading School's Out - Forever (Maximum Ride, #2) by James Patterson which I am not really loving but it is on my Mount TBR list (first book)

So I am also reading The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman which I am REALLY enjoying but right now I am trying to push through Maximum Ride 2 so I can read book 3 (second book on Mount TBR) and get to the rest of my list. I LOVE the cover on The Grimm Legacy. It is a combination of shiny and matte and is so pretty. Got it for 4 dollars in a bargain bin. It is hardcover too! I may check out other books by the author.

I hope to get them done in the next day or 2. So I can keep on trucking LOL.

The Grimm Legacy isn't in any challenges so I am not cheating btw. I can probably put it in Dirty Dozen :-P
