Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I finished Strange Neighbors (Strange Neighbors, #1) by Ashlyn Chase and it wasn't bad, but not great either (3★). Something about the writing just didn't work for me.

Last night I started and am already 60% through Trick of the Light (Trickster, #1) by Rob Thurman . I'm liking it. Really liking the male bonding (die-for-you-friends/no M/M action) between Zeke & Griffin. The story is interesting too. Basically your good vs. evil with smokin' hot demons and a group who believes they are doing God's will, but actually puppets of Angels. Anyway, I'm enjoying it. LOL! I suck at describing books.

And, yes, I'm still trying to find time to listen to Pale Demon (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows #9) by Kim Harrison . I'm just gonna have to read it and try the audio version later, I think.

Is it just me, or does anyone else want to eat that cover?

I am currently reading (actually, have now abandoned) In Bed with the Duke (Governess Brides, #8) by Christina Dodd . Words cannot express how bad this book is. I could try through the medium of mime, but it would just be me rocking in a corner.

message 660: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I just finished Pretty When She Dies A Vampire Novel by Rhiannon Frater and really enjoyed it. Dark and gritty and great characters.

I'll start on Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews today.

Starting Playing With Fire (Silver Dragons, #1) by Katie MacAlister . I liked the Aisling Grey: Guardian series, so I hope this one will be good do too.

message 664: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Read first story in Ain't Myth-Behaving by Katie MacAlister . MacAlister is funny in an over-the-top kinda way. Entertaining in short spurts.

Yay, Inga! I have that TBR next this month. Looking forward to it.

I can't answer you right now, Moss b/c I'm already doing so. LOL! Terribly HAWT!!!

Yay, Kerstin! Glad you liked PWSD. I cannot wait for the sequel.

Yay, Alyssa! Nice finish to that series, yah? Looking forward to her spin-off - interested to see how it compares.

I think there are 3 in that series Inga, so story might arc over the 3.

Vivian, glad Ain't Myth-Behaving by Katie MacAlister is funny, cause I've got that one too!

message 667: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I've only read one other book by her (You Slay Me), but I'd say it has a similar feel, you're just not meant to take it seriously.

Also started Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher and really liking it so far.

message 668: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Steph, I didn't know there was a sequel planned for PWSD. Any idea on when it will be out? I couldn't find anything about it.

message 669: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Kerstin, she stopped by our Rhiannon thread and said, "Pretty When She Kills is the sequel to Pretty When She Dies." When I asked about a release date, she said, "If you mean Pretty When She Kills, I have no clue. I have yet to write it. My agent and I are going to be discussing it this coming week. I'm not sure if I will continue to independently publish the series or if we'll decide to submit it to the big publishers. We'll see." LOL! So, guess we can only patiently (haha) wait and see.

message 670: by Kerstin (new)

message 674: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I just finished Among the Living (PsyCop, #1) by Jordan Castillo Price and a very short story that is free and cops directly after Among the Living Thaw (PsyCop, #1.1) by Jordan Castillo Price , both are short and I read them in an hour or so. I loved them! It is UF with a male POV, and a m/m romance (but written by a woman, I think). It is an interesting world, the setting is realistic and I like the characters alot. I bought #2 already and can't wait to read it.

I am still working my way through Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin (which is hilarious and sexy -- loving it, there are so many quotables from this series) and also still listening to The Way of Shadows (Night Angel, #1) by Brent Weeks

I am also starting A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin -- watching all the trailers for the HBO series has made me want to go ahead and read #2 right now.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments @ Kerstin and Steph -- I can't wait to read Pretty When She Dies, I have it up for next month. I am tempted just to read it right now.

@ Vivian -- glad you are enjoying Fool Moon. I promise you with #3 -- the entire series is at a different caliber -- same very cool premise, but something just clicked for Butcher with 3 and 4.

Just finished Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole . Was the usual fun read, with a little more emphasis on a UF theme. Involved a lykae so the usual strange interpretation of a Scottish accent applied (Are ye goin tae suck that oo not? etc) which is always sort of difficult to ignore, but she's so great I always manage.

Have started Skin Game by Ava Gray . So far, so good.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Currently reading Mercy Blade (Jane Yellowrock, #3) by Faith Hunter & River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs .

Slow going on River Marked, not because of the content, but because I'm psychotically protective of my Keeper hardbacks. I'm not carrying it around in my bookbag, to and from work, etc. My mom smokes, so I didn't take it last week when I went to visit my brother.

Cigarette smoke is awful for books! I have picked up a couple from the thrift store and realize they smell like smoke when I get them home. Only a couple... I don't know how to get the smoke out. I am also protective of my hardcover books.

message 688: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments This is going to sound strange. Try putting it in a small box that seals with a bar of cheap Dial soap. Probably any cheap bar soap will work. Don't use a strongly scented one like Irish Spring, but don't go for totally unscented either. The goal is to replace the smoke smell with the soap smell. No guarantees it will work, but I've had success in the past.

Or you could try pepper. LOL. Had a bunch of packets of pepper left after an anniversary party and the book I was carrying around got stuck in the box with them. Forgot it was in there and when I retrieved it some time later while unpacking the box of party supplies, the entire book smelled like black pepper. Achooo!

Thanks for the ideas I will see what works. I have 2 books. A healthy recipes cookbook (oh the irony) and The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks that smell like cigarettes. I have had a pretty good experience with thrift books except for those.

I was thinking of trying that too! Great minds think alike? I need to find a box... I have some bracelets I bought of ebay that smelled of cigarettes too. They are cloth and buttons and really cute but I wont wear them if I can't get the smell out. Needless to say I was MAD.

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Still Reading: The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton

For such a hot cover, this book is boring as hells. Everyone is so damn perfect. Almost no flaws, which makes it very hard for me to relate &/or sympathize with the MC's.

Started: Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews

I liked Magic Bites so much when I read it last month for BSB that I requested book 2 & 3 from the library.

That would upset me too. I have severe allergies and visiting Mom almost always makes me sick. And the smell permeates everything. After Christmas, I got back home and opened my purse to get my keys out and almost choked. How does that happen? It was zipped up the entire time. I always wash everything regardless of whether it's been worn. I turn my bags inside out and hang them on the porch with my coat to air out. (You'd be surprised at how well a brisk wind on a crisp cold day works.) I even have to wash my hair right away to get the smell out. I can't use floral sachets, etc because of my allergies, so I've had to experiment with other options.

Over time, I've learned my lessons well. Dry clean items, porous items that are really important to me (books, books and more books), the good luggage -- none of it goes to Mom's house. Is it horrible of me to take mainly library books?

I had to laugh at the irony of the Healthy cookbook. My mother's a nurse for goodness sake. And she's a chain smoker! She should definitely know better.

My boyfriend's sister smokes so I know what you mean about your clothes and hair smelling when you come back even if she wasn't smoking while we were there I still absorb the smell. It is a little terrible that you bring library books. :-P But what can you do? I would bring a cheap paperback you don't care too much about. If you end up loving the book enough to reread, you can always repurchase it. I know you can't do that with all your books though. It is awful she is a nurse and smokes but she can quit if she wants too. My boyfriend's mom smoked for a long time and has quit within these last few years.

Aw that's a shame. Hottie on the cover is a liar!

Have just finished Demon from the Dark (Immortals After Dark, #10) by Kresley Cole . I'm not going to say anything about it because I just finished foaming at the mouth on my review, but ah, let's just say I hope the Lothaire book is nothing like this one.
