YAY!!!
Today I read
and
. These two books had guys with the biggest schlongs I've ever read about. Both 3 star reads but were definitely different from the norm.
Daffodil, sorry the current BOM is turning out to be crap. We've been lucky so far w/our picks. Oh well, can't all be 5★-reads, I guess.LMAO Ames!! I'm hoping to read Pride Mates in March/Apr. Now, I'm prepared for the long-duck-dong. ;)
I finished my last Feb challenge read this AM,
. It was a quick, sexy read. I may eventually check out the other books in the series.I really enjoyed
. The ending left a bit of a cliff-hanger. Not a severe drop, kinda expected it actually. It's enough to make you wish you had #6 to read now, but not enough to make you scream "No Fair". I realized that a March challenge read,
, is set to be released 1 Mar. Since I got the ARC from NetGalley, I can't exactly wait to read and review. So, I'm starting it today/night with hopes for a just-before-the-whistle-blows finish seeing as they'd like you to review pre-release.
Hahaha! Thanks, Steph! Unfortunately, I couldn't drop this book if I wanted to (& I really want to). It's for a challenge. Grrr.
No. =( My other choices are equally-if not more-heinous. I want February to be over so I can start new books!
No bleeding on the boards! LOL, I hope it isn't too painful. That is one of the reasons why I stopped doing challenges, I have no problems DNFing and it screws up my ability to finish a challenge. And chocolate always always sweetens/dulls any pain.
I am currently reading
. I have to finish it soon because it is a Kindle loaned book. I don't know how many days I have left... I also want to start
on audio which I borrowed from the library and I just finished
on audio the other day. I liked it a lot but I wanted to go onto book 2 and it isn't out yet. :(
Read faster AV, shame #2 Matched isn't out yet.And Kimberly is lucky The Leagues were out and she could keep reading. LOL.
Jackie M wrote: "I am reading Wisdom"I need to start that series soon. Glad you're enjoying it, Jackie.
AV, thanks for the "wish I had #2" warning w/Matched. I have that TBR, but will hold off a bit longer until #2 is out.
I finished
this morning. I really liked it - 5★, but probably should've been closer to 4 - it just sucked me in, so I had to rate higher. :)I also started my re-read of
last night in prep for
, which is on it's way.I'm listening to
for a 1995-published book/challenge read. Not bad so far.I stopped the audio of
b/c the narrator was buggin' me. I'll re-read it instead in a bit, when it gets closer to the release of #5.
Steph, I'm glad you enjoyed
too! It was so much better than Inside Out. I was desperate for more explicit detail in the shower scene though.
Amy or "Ames" wrote: "Steph, I'm glad you enjoyed

Reading
for a couple of challenges. I enjoy KM's dragons but there just always seems to be something missing.
Sandra, I think they lack a darker, emotional side -a serious element amongst the silliness that Noble Intentions had but these lack.
Me too. I've been meaning to read that one but every time I pick it up a shiny new release arrives to distract me.
I just finished a shiny new release myself
. Despite a lot of people complaining about this latest book in the Night Huntress series I really loved it!
Thanks, Ames. I did really like it. I enjoyed it much more than the first as well. (I liked both, just #2 more) Would'a been nice for a bit more in the shower scene, agreed. Gotta keep it PG though, I guess. ;)Kerstin, I really liked TSoG also. Glad you enjoyed it.
Yay, Sandra! It does have the "special school" stuff seen in other YA books, but I like Neill's writing and enjoyed it. Hope you do too.
Kerstin and Steph I am so excited to see people liking This Side of the Grave. I just finished
and am now listening to thse two on audio:
and reading this
Ames mentioned Stolen as well, I think. I need to double check ... did I get that one already or just add to my wishlist? LOL! I can't keep up sometimes. How are you liking Iron Duke? I want to read that, but I'm undecided still on whether or not I'm a fan of Steampunk. I didn't love Parasol Protectorate #1, so I've shied away from SP for a bit.
Finished
yay, last of Feb's challenge books. Really enjoyed this YA one. Must be CN's writing.I got
the other week, looks very promising. LOL.
I'm glad you liked it. I really like her writing. Reminds me, I have #2 TBR. Maybe in March :)Did you find you like Steampunk? I may give it another go, maybe it was just the Parasol series I wasn't a fan of? Dunno.
I finished
this AM and jumped right into
, so I can find out what happened to the soul reaper brother's baby bro. I've enjoyed the trilogy so far, but find I skim parts b/c the author repeats a bit too much throughout each book.
Steph, I liked all the Parasol Protectorates and am hanging for #4
Is it the historical part you don't like? I know you're not a big fan of that. But really I don't even notice half the time that its set in Victorianaland.
:\ I don't know what it was actually. Maybe I'll try to give #2 a try. I gave it 4★, mainly b/c it was so different. I had a hard time getting into it, I remember that. I had a lot going on in Mar last year though, maybe it was just wrong book, wrong time? :)
Just remember big cliffhanger at the end of #2, so have #3 handy.Yeah, and moving countries will do that to ya. LOL.
Sandra wrote: "Just remember big cliffhanger at the end of #2, so have #3 handy. Will do. I know I have #2, but not sure about #3. May have to put that back on hold. Thanks!
"Yeah, and moving countries will do that to ya. LOL."
LOL Too true!
Onset of a cold combined with nasty chilly rainy weather conspired to keep me inside most of the weekend. Finished or read the following:
Skloot weaved three different story lines into one fascinating book. The story of Henrietta Lacks, her family and the uncertainty in their minds of what really happened to her was touching. The history of cellular research, the growth of the HeLa line and the future moral/ethical implications of tissue rights were well done; Skloot managed to clearly explain the scientific information without dumbing it down. Finally, the books is about the journey Skloot herself took to track down information.
Enchanting and fun children's book. Now, I'm going to have to hunt up the movie, which I've never seen.
Humor, romance and a touch of danger made this book a fun read. I love Garwood's characterizations and hope we see more Gigi in the future.
Reread. I'd been wanting to reread Anna & Charles meeting, so I hunted this up. Read the whole thing all over again. I read Chance's first Cassandra Palmer book a long time ago and felt so-so about it, but I always love her short stories. I've been planning on giving her novels another shot for precisely that reason.
I've said in a couple of places how intensely I disliked the main character from almost the first page. I struggled through this because it was handy and I was studiously avoiding books on my March challenges. I'd like to say the book improved, but I honestly can't. There were moments of brilliance (I would have loved to have actually witnessed the march to the bad guy's lair), but they couldn't make up for all the things that went wrong in my opinion.
Non-pnr, but a great mystery. First Carlisle book I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was also fascinated by the descriptions on book reapair and restoration. I will definitely be looking up more in this series.Currently readng:
&
Daffodil great list! Thanks for the input on the books. Coraline looks intersting, I may read it with my kids. @Steph, Iron Duke is my first steampunk and I am liking it so far. I do like historical books though and I really enjoy fantasy, so I like the world building and otherworldly aspect of it so far. But I am only at the beginning. Also, mood and where you are in your life defintiely effects whether you like a book or not!! But, not every book is for everyone. :)
@ Steph re Stolen, Ames and Laura are the reason I read Stolen and I loved it. I had a different reaction that many of my GR friends, I wasn't stricken with Stockholm Syndrome, and it is interesting b/c it brought to the forefront many issues I have with other popular YA and PNR books right now. But I have always had the odd woman out perspective. :) I recommend Stolen.
Read
. I seem to be reading a lot of books with men that have extra large...appendages at the moment. It's fascinating although the lip thing is new. I'm echoing Gwen's "Marry me" to Lock. My first bear shifter book and it was excellent! One of the best of Laurenston's works.
I love anything she writes Ames, they're all good.Finished
4 stars and am just contemplating what to read next.
I'm trying to decide whether to start
or
for my first book of March. Queen of Shadows +
Vampires...& stuff.
Musicians.
UF/PNR genre.
Mucho raved about.
Skin Game +
Assassin/hit man hero!
Heroine with cool powers who is also a thief.
Hot sex-I've heard.
PNR/IR genre.
Ava Gray=Ann Aguirre.
Hmmmmm....
Tough choice Lethal, for my pick I decided on
as it's in nearly every challenge I've got this month. There's another category for you to pick from - how many challenges is each book in, and go for the mostest.
Thank you very much for the advice, Sandra! I'll definitely check to see which book is in more challenges. What a coincidence! I wanted to read
first but I'm still waiting for it to come to me at the library. I request it & the 3rd book in the series from the library this month.
Daffodil, thanks for the feedback on your reads. :)And Regina RE: Iron Duke. May eventually give it a go.
Stolen is on my TBR list.
Very cool, Ames. Once I finish her Pack series, I'll be moving onto her Pride bks. Lookin' forward to some bear shifters. :)
Lethal, good luck w/your choice - QoS is one of my faves and I have SG on my challenge TBR list. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it if/when you read it.
Enjoy MB, Sandra! I so love that series.
I'm still deciding what to start March off with. I'm about done with Sins of the Flesh. Finally finished audiobook Midnight which brings me to my FINAL RRRC "Lifetime" challenge book. WOOHOO!! I'll be doin' a jig once I've completed that challenge.
I'm starting audiobook for Pale Demon (Couldn't resist, since I really enjoyed listening to the last one. Same narrator, Marguerite Gavin, as the Kitty bks, so I have to remind myself -sometimes- who I'm "reading" about. LOL!)
Not sure what I'll read first ... Maybe Halfway Hexed. It's light and fun.
JUST FINISHED:
// ALMOST DONE:
// STARTING NEXT:
Lethal I love Ann Aguirre (aka Ava Grey) but I thought Skin Game was just O.K. To be fair I went through a phase where everything was "meh" and Skin Game was one of them. The sex was hot and I LOVED that the male lead was Latino. It was also refreshing that both leads were sort of anti-heroes. Hmmm the way I am talking it sounds like it is worth reading first. But I preferred Queen of Shadows.
I am reading
by audio and LOVING IT. Hamilton is so good at creating a dark and spooky UF, with complex characters and relationships. They say difficult and sometiems awkward things to each other and wow, it can be gory. I am only about 35% in. It makes me sad that I know the series "turns" but I am so glad to experience this right now. Also reading
, I am about 28% in but I dont think it is confusing as I had been warned, maybe bc I was warned about the confusion, it made me read more carefully but I think the world building at the beginning reminded me of strong UF and fantasy series where names and concepts are introduced without an explanation, I am okay with that and prefer that method of world building to say Karen Chance's method where she literally defines terms. I love Cassie Palmer, dont get me wrong. Just saying. :) But I am going to hurry through the Iron Duke bc I have waiting for me on my kindle ........
-- and I can't wait!!
Finished
. Interesting book and I liked it, but I could only give it 3 stars. On the surface, the Eidelstein's appear to be a perfectly happy family. Rose's gift highlights the hidden undercurrents of dissatisfaction, emptiness and discord. The bittersweet ending emphasizes how people cope differently with life's disappointments. Eagerly waiting for
and
to show up on my doorstep. In the meantime, I'm reading
