Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Vlad's books are definitely going on my To-Buy list!

Finished Out of the Darkness (Offspring, #2) by Jaime_Rush last night. I enjoyed this much more than the first book. Darkness' romantic focus is on a different couple, but the plot still centers around the Offspring as a group. Zoe and Brand make an interesting couple, both loners for differing reasons. I liked the fact that Amy & Lucas' relationship was touched upon instead of being ignored in favor of the new couple. I'm definitely going to be reading more in this series.

Picked up Right Hand Magic (Golgotham, #1) by Nancy A. Collins . If I'd picked this up at the bookstore or found it browsing at the library, I would have already put this back on the rack. It never would have left in my bag. I requested it through Inter-Library Loan and am really contemplating a DNF, which I never do. A book may languish on my TBR for years while being intermittently picked up and returned to the pile, but never just condemned straight out. I'm gonna make my way over to the BOM thread and leave more detailed comments.

Luckily I brought Coraline by Neil Gaiman & The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot with me to work, so I'll have something else to read on my lunch hour.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Today I read The Princess & the Penis by R.J. Silver and Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley . These two books had guys with the biggest schlongs I've ever read about. Both 3 star reads but were definitely different from the norm.

message 504: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Daffodil, sorry the current BOM is turning out to be crap. We've been lucky so far w/our picks. Oh well, can't all be 5★-reads, I guess.

LMAO Ames!! I'm hoping to read Pride Mates in March/Apr. Now, I'm prepared for the long-duck-dong. ;)

I finished my last Feb challenge read this AM, Kiss of Moonlight (Lucani Lovers, #1) by Stephanie Julian . It was a quick, sexy read. I may eventually check out the other books in the series.

I really enjoyed This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost . The ending left a bit of a cliff-hanger. Not a severe drop, kinda expected it actually. It's enough to make you wish you had #6 to read now, but not enough to make you scream "No Fair".

I realized that a March challenge read, Outside In (Inside Out, #2) by Maria V. Snyder , is set to be released 1 Mar. Since I got the ARC from NetGalley, I can't exactly wait to read and review. So, I'm starting it today/night with hopes for a just-before-the-whistle-blows finish seeing as they'd like you to review pre-release.

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Happily Reading: A Mermaid's Kiss (Daughters of Arianne, #1) by Joey W. Hill
Slitting My Wrists While Reading: A Taste of Magic (Magic, # 1) by Tracy Madison

message 506: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL! *band aid for Lethal while snatching bad book!*

message 507: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Hahaha! Thanks, Steph! Unfortunately, I couldn't drop this book if I wanted to (& I really want to). It's for a challenge. Grrr.

message 508: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments :\ Would something else work?

message 509: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments No. =( My other choices are equally-if not more-heinous. I want February to be over so I can start new books!

message 510: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL! Good luck pushin' through it then.

Sandra | 25908 comments Try chocolate Lethal, it might sweeten the pain.

message 512: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments No bleeding on the boards! LOL, I hope it isn't too painful. That is one of the reasons why I stopped doing challenges, I have no problems DNFing and it screws up my ability to finish a challenge. And chocolate always always sweetens/dulls any pain.

message 513: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments I am reading Wisdom (My Blood Approves, #4) by Amanda Hocking

message 514: by Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (last edited Feb 24, 2011 08:55AM) (new)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I am currently reading Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate . I have to finish it soon because it is a Kindle loaned book. I don't know how many days I have left... I also want to start Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, #1) by Kim Harrison on audio which I borrowed from the library and I just finished Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie on audio the other day. I liked it a lot but I wanted to go onto book 2 and it isn't out yet. :(

message 515: by Kimberly (last edited Feb 24, 2011 09:29AM) (new)

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments Finished Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon last night. Surprised at how much I really liked it. Started Born of Fire (The League, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon right away. So far so good.

message 516: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Read faster AV, shame #2 Matched isn't out yet.

And Kimberly is lucky The Leagues were out and she could keep reading. LOL.

message 517: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Jackie M wrote: "I am reading Wisdom"

I need to start that series soon. Glad you're enjoying it, Jackie.

AV, thanks for the "wish I had #2" warning w/Matched. I have that TBR, but will hold off a bit longer until #2 is out.

I finished Outside In (Inside Out, #2) by Maria V. Snyder this morning. I really liked it - 5★, but probably should've been closer to 4 - it just sucked me in, so I had to rate higher. :)

I also started my re-read of Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, #2) by Richelle Mead last night in prep for Iron Crowned (Dark Swan, #3) by Richelle Mead , which is on it's way.

I'm listening to Midnight by Dean Koontz for a 1995-published book/challenge read. Not bad so far.

I stopped the audio of Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4) by Karen Chance b/c the narrator was buggin' me. I'll re-read it instead in a bit, when it gets closer to the release of #5.

message 518: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Steph, I'm glad you enjoyed Outside In (Inside Out, #2) by Maria V. Snyder too! It was so much better than Inside Out. I was desperate for more explicit detail in the shower scene though.

I need to read Inside Out. I think I have Outside in on NetGalley.

Sandra | 25908 comments Reading Playing With Fire (Silver Dragons, #1) by Katie MacAlister for a couple of challenges. I enjoy KM's dragons but there just always seems to be something missing.

message 521: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Sandra, I think they lack a darker, emotional side -a serious element amongst the silliness that Noble Intentions had but these lack.

message 522: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yep, I think you're right Ames, but I still keep reading 'em, but I do have to space 'em out. LOL.

message 523: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Me too. I've been meaning to read that one but every time I pick it up a shiny new release arrives to distract me.

message 524: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments OOOhhh, I love those shiny new distractions...... LOL.

message 525: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I just finished a shiny new release myself This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost . Despite a lot of people complaining about this latest book in the Night Huntress series I really loved it!

message 526: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Just starting Firespell (Dark Elite, #1) by Chloe Neill

message 527: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Thanks, Ames. I did really like it. I enjoyed it much more than the first as well. (I liked both, just #2 more) Would'a been nice for a bit more in the shower scene, agreed. Gotta keep it PG though, I guess. ;)

Kerstin, I really liked TSoG also. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yay, Sandra! It does have the "special school" stuff seen in other YA books, but I like Neill's writing and enjoyed it. Hope you do too.

message 528: by Regina (last edited Feb 27, 2011 06:55PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Kerstin and Steph I am so excited to see people liking This Side of the Grave.

I just finished Stolen by Lucy Christopher City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare Heir to the Shadows (The Black Jewels, #2) by Anne Bishop Impatient with Desire by Gabrielle Burton and am now listening to thse two on audio: The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor (Friday Harbor, #1) by Lisa Kleypas and reading this The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook

message 529: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Ames mentioned Stolen as well, I think. I need to double check ... did I get that one already or just add to my wishlist? LOL! I can't keep up sometimes.

How are you liking Iron Duke? I want to read that, but I'm undecided still on whether or not I'm a fan of Steampunk. I didn't love Parasol Protectorate #1, so I've shied away from SP for a bit.

message 530: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Finished Firespell (Dark Elite, #1) by Chloe Neill yay, last of Feb's challenge books. Really enjoyed this YA one. Must be CN's writing.

I got The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook the other week, looks very promising. LOL.

message 531: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I'm glad you liked it. I really like her writing. Reminds me, I have #2 TBR. Maybe in March :)

Did you find you like Steampunk? I may give it another go, maybe it was just the Parasol series I wasn't a fan of? Dunno.

message 532: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I finished Sins of the Soul (Otherkin trilogy, #2) by Eve Silver this AM and jumped right into Sins of the Flesh (Otherkin trilogy, #3) by Eve Silver , so I can find out what happened to the soul reaper brother's baby bro.

I've enjoyed the trilogy so far, but find I skim parts b/c the author repeats a bit too much throughout each book.

message 533: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Steph, I liked all the Parasol Protectorates and am hanging for #4 Heartless (The Parasol Protectorate, #4) by Gail Carriger

Is it the historical part you don't like? I know you're not a big fan of that. But really I don't even notice half the time that its set in Victorianaland.

message 534: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments :\ I don't know what it was actually. Maybe I'll try to give #2 a try. I gave it 4★, mainly b/c it was so different. I had a hard time getting into it, I remember that. I had a lot going on in Mar last year though, maybe it was just wrong book, wrong time? :)

message 535: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (last edited Feb 27, 2011 10:56PM) (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Just remember big cliffhanger at the end of #2, so have #3 handy.

Yeah, and moving countries will do that to ya. LOL.

message 536: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Started The Vampire and the Virgin (Love at Stake, #8) by Kerrelyn Sparks a fun read so far :) This one's set in Greece.

Will do. I know I have #2, but not sure about #3. May have to put that back on hold. Thanks!

"Yeah, and moving countries will do that to ya. LOL."

LOL Too true!

message 538: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Onset of a cold combined with nasty chilly rainy weather conspired to keep me inside most of the weekend. Finished or read the following:

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot Skloot weaved three different story lines into one fascinating book. The story of Henrietta Lacks, her family and the uncertainty in their minds of what really happened to her was touching. The history of cellular research, the growth of the HeLa line and the future moral/ethical implications of tissue rights were well done; Skloot managed to clearly explain the scientific information without dumbing it down. Finally, the books is about the journey Skloot herself took to track down information.

Coraline by Neil Gaiman Enchanting and fun children's book. Now, I'm going to have to hunt up the movie, which I've never seen.

Sizzle (Buchanan, #8) by Julie Garwood Humor, romance and a touch of danger made this book a fun read. I love Garwood's characterizations and hope we see more Gigi in the future.

On the Prowl by Patricia Briggs Reread. I'd been wanting to reread Anna & Charles meeting, so I hunted this up. Read the whole thing all over again. I read Chance's first Cassandra Palmer book a long time ago and felt so-so about it, but I always love her short stories. I've been planning on giving her novels another shot for precisely that reason.

Right Hand Magic (Golgotham, #1) by Nancy A. Collins I've said in a couple of places how intensely I disliked the main character from almost the first page. I struggled through this because it was handy and I was studiously avoiding books on my March challenges. I'd like to say the book improved, but I honestly can't. There were moments of brilliance (I would have loved to have actually witnessed the march to the bad guy's lair), but they couldn't make up for all the things that went wrong in my opinion.

Homicide In Hardcover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #1) by Kate Carlisle Non-pnr, but a great mystery. First Carlisle book I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was also fascinated by the descriptions on book reapair and restoration. I will definitely be looking up more in this series.

Currently readng: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender & Twice Tempted by a Rogue (Stud Club, #2) by Tessa Dare

message 539: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Daffodil great list! Thanks for the input on the books. Coraline looks intersting, I may read it with my kids.

@Steph, Iron Duke is my first steampunk and I am liking it so far. I do like historical books though and I really enjoy fantasy, so I like the world building and otherworldly aspect of it so far. But I am only at the beginning. Also, mood and where you are in your life defintiely effects whether you like a book or not!! But, not every book is for everyone. :)

message 540: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments @ Steph re Stolen, Ames and Laura are the reason I read Stolen and I loved it. I had a different reaction that many of my GR friends, I wasn't stricken with Stockholm Syndrome, and it is interesting b/c it brought to the forefront many issues I have with other popular YA and PNR books right now. But I have always had the odd woman out perspective. :) I recommend Stolen.

message 541: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Read The Mane Squeeze (Pride, #4) by Shelly Laurenston . I seem to be reading a lot of books with men that have extra large...appendages at the moment. It's fascinating although the lip thing is new. I'm echoing Gwen's "Marry me" to Lock. My first bear shifter book and it was excellent! One of the best of Laurenston's works.

message 542: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I love anything she writes Ames, they're all good.

Finished The Vampire and the Virgin (Love at Stake, #8) by Kerrelyn Sparks 4 stars and am just contemplating what to read next.

message 543: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I'm trying to decide whether to start Skin Game (Skin, #1) by Ava Gray or Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan for my first book of March.

Queen of Shadows +
Vampires...& stuff.
Musicians.
UF/PNR genre.
Mucho raved about.

Skin Game +
Assassin/hit man hero!
Heroine with cool powers who is also a thief.
Hot sex-I've heard.
PNR/IR genre.
Ava Gray=Ann Aguirre.

Hmmmmm....

message 544: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Tough choice Lethal, for my pick I decided on Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews as it's in nearly every challenge I've got this month.

There's another category for you to pick from - how many challenges is each book in, and go for the mostest.

message 545: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Thank you very much for the advice, Sandra! I'll definitely check to see which book is in more challenges.

What a coincidence! I wanted to read Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews first but I'm still waiting for it to come to me at the library. I request it & the 3rd book in the series from the library this month.

message 546: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Daffodil, thanks for the feedback on your reads. :)

And Regina RE: Iron Duke. May eventually give it a go.

Stolen is on my TBR list.

Very cool, Ames. Once I finish her Pack series, I'll be moving onto her Pride bks. Lookin' forward to some bear shifters. :)

Lethal, good luck w/your choice - QoS is one of my faves and I have SG on my challenge TBR list. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it if/when you read it.

Enjoy MB, Sandra! I so love that series.

I'm still deciding what to start March off with. I'm about done with Sins of the Flesh. Finally finished audiobook Midnight which brings me to my FINAL RRRC "Lifetime" challenge book. WOOHOO!! I'll be doin' a jig once I've completed that challenge.

I'm starting audiobook for Pale Demon (Couldn't resist, since I really enjoyed listening to the last one. Same narrator, Marguerite Gavin, as the Kitty bks, so I have to remind myself -sometimes- who I'm "reading" about. LOL!)

Not sure what I'll read first ... Maybe Halfway Hexed. It's light and fun.

JUST FINISHED: Midnight by Dean Koontz // ALMOST DONE: Sins of the Flesh (Otherkin trilogy, #3) by Eve Silver // STARTING NEXT: Pale Demon by Kim Harrison Halfway Hexed (Southern Witch, #3) by Kimberly Frost

message 547: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Lethal I love Ann Aguirre (aka Ava Grey) but I thought Skin Game was just O.K. To be fair I went through a phase where everything was "meh" and Skin Game was one of them. The sex was hot and I LOVED that the male lead was Latino. It was also refreshing that both leads were sort of anti-heroes. Hmmm the way I am talking it sounds like it is worth reading first. But I preferred Queen of Shadows.

message 548: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am reading The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton by audio and LOVING IT. Hamilton is so good at creating a dark and spooky UF, with complex characters and relationships. They say difficult and sometiems awkward things to each other and wow, it can be gory. I am only about 35% in. It makes me sad that I know the series "turns" but I am so glad to experience this right now.

Also reading The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook , I am about 28% in but I dont think it is confusing as I had been warned, maybe bc I was warned about the confusion, it made me read more carefully but I think the world building at the beginning reminded me of strong UF and fantasy series where names and concepts are introduced without an explanation, I am okay with that and prefer that method of world building to say Karen Chance's method where she literally defines terms. I love Cassie Palmer, dont get me wrong. Just saying. :) But I am going to hurry through the Iron Duke bc I have waiting for me on my kindle ........ River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs -- and I can't wait!!

message 549: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments I am reading This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Finished The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender . Interesting book and I liked it, but I could only give it 3 stars. On the surface, the Eidelstein's appear to be a perfectly happy family. Rose's gift highlights the hidden undercurrents of dissatisfaction, emptiness and discord. The bittersweet ending emphasizes how people cope differently with life's disappointments.

Eagerly waiting for River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs and Twilight's Dawn (The Black Jewels, #9) by Anne Bishop to show up on my doorstep.

In the meantime, I'm reading Midnight Crystal (Dreamlight Trilogy, #3; Arcane Society, #9; Harmony, #7) by Jayne Castle & Twice Tempted by a Rogue (Stud Club, #2) by Tessa Dare
