Hi, Please feel free to suggest any books you want for a group read for Feb. The first 12 books will be entertained. Later we will put them up in a poll and see which one gets the maximum number of votes and the suggester would lead the discussion.
we can even create multiple book reads if there are enough members/genres of books

message 2: by Meenakshi (new)

Meenakshi (mcoolshi) | 1965 comments The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Master of the Game by Sidney Sheldon
The Vendor of sweets by RK Narayan
books by PG Woodehouse
Inkheart trilogy by Cornella Funke
A series of unfortunate event by Lemony Snicket
A walk to remember by Nicholas Sparks
Two states by Chetan Bhagat

I have written books from every genre I could think of so that there is a variety of books to choose from.

You can recommend only one book, Meenakshi. The rest will be by others. If there are more than one parallel book reads going on, you may recommend one each for all the genres

message 4: by Prerak (new)

Prerak Ring by Koji Suzuki!
i just completed it, it's waaaaaaayyyyyy better than the movie (REALLY!) and cool stuff to read

message 5: by Meenakshi (new)

Meenakshi (mcoolshi) | 1965 comments hmmmmm...choosing one from the above is not like a piece of cake but I will try.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

ok just a suggestion:
when you'll suggest books can you'll also
put in ebook links to it
or a bookstore(crossword/landmark and the sorts )where it may be available
or see if its available on fipkart?

message 8: by Prerak (new)

Prerak hey you can read, The Dark Half by Stephen King! its a bit slow but a fantastic plot!!!

message 9: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments yes guys, please also include the links to ebook or the flipkart ot any other book store if possible. I recommend Guide by RK Narayan

So we have
1. Ring- Koji Suzuki
2. The Giver-Lois Lowry
3. The Guide - R K Narayan
4.The Case of the Missing Servant-Tarquin Hall
8 more to go. If no one else suggests books till Jan 10, then we will go ahead and put these 4 for the polls.

message 16: by Balkha (new)

Balkha | 93 comments I know we are only allowed to suggest one book but I would like to second the Inkheart Trilogy in Meenakshi's list. So since two us are suggesting it maybe you could include it in the list of 12 for the polls..

message 17: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Singh (akankshasingh92) | 1414 comments Me too.....inkheart's for booklovers!

message 18: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Since this list is open till Jan 10th, if there aren't 12 books suggested by that time, we may include inkheart also, is that ok Smitha?

But as u guys say it's a trilogy, how do u suppose we should go about it? Including all three books of the trilogy in a month might be a squeeze, right?

message 19: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
1. Ring- Koji Suzuki (Prerak)
2. The Giver-Lois Lowry (Meenakshi)

4.The Case of the Missing Servant-Tarquin Hall (Ramcha)
5.The Last Lecture (Mansee)
6.Something Upstairs(Nandhitha)
7.Lolita (Balkha)

If Akanksha agrees to be the lead reader, I have added Inkheart 1 to the list as Meenakshi and Balkha have already suggested other books.(triology may be difficult to finish and discuss in a month's time)

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Smitha can i suggest a book that i have already read but i want others to read n for it to be included in a group read discussion ??

message 22: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
You can suggest it yourself, Hazel as I see that you haven't suggested any book for Feb.
If for personal reason, you dont want to lead the discussion, you can put the name of the book here, if anyone is willing to take it up, I can add the book

message 23: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 03, 2011 12:33AM) (new)

This is a chunky read but is definately worth the effort: Pillars of the earth by Ken Follett http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50...

message 24: by Meenakshi (last edited Jan 03, 2011 12:33AM) (new)

Meenakshi (mcoolshi) | 1965 comments Yes Inkheart trilogy is good but yes it is a series of 3 books so I am sure it will be difficult for people to read the entire series in a month.

message 25: by Prerak (new)

Prerak for those who love to be thrilled or gasp while reading...Ring is still my first choice but for those who like a milder stuff...go for Alchemist, it would have the maximum participation received as many have already read it!

message 26: by Anbu (new)

Anbu (anbutheone) | 4469 comments Kite runner by Khaled Hosseini, Alchemist by Paulo, Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

message 27: by Prerak (last edited Jan 03, 2011 04:01AM) (new)

Prerak @ Anbu! No offense buddy but LOST SYMBOL!!! it was the most disappointing of all Dan Brown for me! Don't you think DaVinci or Angels or Deception or Digital are wayyyy better than it!!!

message 28: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
9.The Pillars of the Earth (Hazel)
10.The Kite Runner (Anbu)

Two more to go before I can put up the polls

message 29: by Anbu (last edited Jan 03, 2011 04:22AM) (new)

Anbu (anbutheone) | 4469 comments @Prerak.. There was nothing offense in it mate.:).

I felt the Lost symbol is a good read.. In my view deception point was a disappointing Dan Brown book..

message 30: by Prerak (new)

Prerak @ Anbu, i agree and if i had to put the books in order, Deception Point would definitely take the fourth position out of 5!

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

And the fifth would be Lost Symbol! By the way Smitha, i'd like to suggest Of Men and Mice by Steinback.

message 32: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Singh (akankshasingh92) | 1414 comments Okay Smitha, i'll take up the discussion for Inkheart. We wouldn't read all the books in Feb, we'll read the first one and then, if people like it we can go for second, otherwise, the ones who want to read the rest can do it personally.

This topic is now closed for discussion. I am putting up the polls today. We have till Jan 20 to vote.
Thanks, guys.

One more thing.
Is keeping 12 books for polls too much? should we reduce the number to 6 next time?

message 37: by Sherin (new)

Sherin Punnilath (shery_7) | 7330 comments No..
As we have these many members, more people will get their say if the number is 12.

Yes thats a good choice.I can read The Lost Symbol but I have already read the other two.

February Poll is won by 'Kite Runner" - so congrats Anbu, you will lead the discussion starting from Feb 1. As many of us wanted a second book to read, we have chosen 'Lolita' among the 'runners up', the discussion will be lead by Balkha.
'Pillars of the Earth' will gain an automatic entry to March poll ( and will be ahead by 4 votes)
