I loved Speaker for the Dead. It was my fave of the Ender sequels. But the Shadow books are truly my faves of the saga.

Bret Wellman Just finished Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . It wasn't as good as the hunger games but it was still pretty good. Idk if I am going to read insurgent yet or not. I probably will eventually

I agree with you Bret. I must say Insurgent was a big disappointment.

Here are a few books I enjoyed that are a little reminiscent of The Hunger Games:

After the Fear by Rosanne Rivers The Testing (The Testing, #1) by Joelle Charbonneau Quarantine The Loners (Quarantine, #1) by Lex Thomas

Did you like Arclight? I read the sample and it was promising although a little confusing too. I didn't buy it yet because the reviews aren't all that great and it was a little pricey.

I'm only about a third way through and I think it'll be my favorite out of the three. I felt like the first one just wasn't that great but other people told me the series was great. I think they got better as they went.

Divergent isn't that good?! :/ I've seen a lot of praise for it and so I just bought two days ago.

Divergent wasn't bad by any means, it is just that I always hear it compared to the hunger games. The hunger games for me is ranked in my top ten, divergent falls into the lower to middle twenties. That isn't bad by any standard.

I was pretty disappointed also, I thought it had a lot of potential but fell a little flat. I also wasn't a huge fan of Lexi.

I finished The Night She Disappeared by April Henry tonight. I started it last night and read 70% in one sitting! That is a record for me here this past year or so! It was really good, definitely kept me interested and anxious to know what was going to happen. I preordered Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) by Sarah J. Maas the other day and it showed up on my kindle this morning so starting it now

Fire and Ash (Benny Imura, #4) by Jonathan Maberry , #5 in the Benny Imura series. I could not imagine how he could end this book satisfactorily in the the number of pages remaining but he did it! Certainly hope Maberry will continue this series.

message 1589: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I have to comment (since its being discussed) that I love Divergent. I might love it slightly more than the hunger games because of how it speaks to me personally. And I was not disappointed by Insurgent. It was different, but I thought it made a lot of sense as the second installment.

I am currently reading Speaker for the Dead (Ender's Saga, #2) by Orson Scott Card . My husband and I just finished Ender's game in preparation for the film. Now we're on to the sequel.

@Cheer- sorry to respond so late, but YES!! I absolutely loved Arclight (Arclight, #1) by Josin L. McQuein it was honestly the best book I've read so far this year. It had some good ol' creepy mystery to it, originality and a great premise and story. I highly recommend it!

Love the Ender's Saga, but the Shadow saga is way better imo. You guys should try that one after if you are up to it.

Bret Wellman You will have to let me know how good the second endor book is. My girlfriend and I read it on a trip up north last year, we only had one copy so we decided to read it at the same time. We read the whole thing like two kids in a tree fort, both reading the same page at the same time. It turned out to be a super fun thing to do and a great experience. We thought about reading the second one but the description didn't look that good to us.

I will let you know what I think. My husband has already finished and he thought it was really good. It's actually really interesting because if you read the super long author's note at the beginning of Ender, you find out that the second book, Speaker, was the one he was really trying to write and Ender was just a little novella. He actually had to go back and turn Ender's Game into a full novel to make Speaker's story more relevant and to keep it from having a massive prologue. Anyway, I found that pretty cool. And I'm so grateful because Ender's Game was awesome :)

I've heard that the shadow series was better. I definitely plan to give it a try.

I enjoyed Speaker for the Dead (Ender's Saga, #2) by Orson Scott Card a lot, but the last two arent as good IMO. The overall story is a bit weird. But the Shadow Saga takes place on earth and it feels so much more relevant.

Well, I just finished Speaker and I really loved it. I don't know if I can classify which I liked better. I liked the subject matter of Speaker a bit more than Ender. But, they're still both fabulous. And I'm starting Xenocide (Ender's Saga, #3) by Orson Scott Card , about 50 pages in :)
