David, I loved Shiver and Linger. Shiver I loved because of Sam, but Linger has a new character named Cole who made me love that book. And while I didn't hate Forever, i didn't love it either. It just wasn't what I was expecting for the final chapter, ya know. I think it could have been better. But overall I love that series, so I would recommend that you read it and gave it a shot.

I also liked Ballad more than Lament :)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) LOL, OK cool, I'll try it out and just have low expectations so hopefully it will exceed them!!

I was going to say, give it a shot. I really am rare in my feelings for that book. I was highly disappointed in it, but I know that many others loved it. Like Bethany said, Cole is a great character in the 2nd book and he made things interesting.

David P Forsyth (daidpforsyth) | 9 comments I'm currently reading Story Time by Linell Jeppsen which offers an interesting mix of apocalyptic themes. I really enjoyed Extinction Point and Towards Yesterday by Paul Jones, as well as The Zona by Nathan Yocum. Each of those books offer unique and creative approaches to apocalyptic sci-fi and I'm pleased to note that all three of those indie authors gave rave reviews to Voyage of the Dead by David P. Forsyth

message 1157: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I finished Black Dawn (The Morganville Vampires, #12) by Rachel Caine , which was excellent and just started Balthazar by Claudia Gray . Neither is dystopian, though I suppose you could stretch it a bit and call the Morganville books dystopian!

message 1158: by Julie (new)

Julie Bethany, let me know how Kill Me Softly is!

I'm getting read to start The Last Echo (The Body Finder, #3) by Kimberly Derting

Julie, you can go read my review for Kill Me Softly. There are some kinda spoilers in it, but nothing that will really ruin the book for you. I'll just say that I didn't love it. I loved elements of it, but there were things that drove me crazy. And I intensely disliked the MC, which kinda ruins the book. But, hey, give it a try, lol!

message 1160: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I'm in the process of rereading City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare which is probably gonna take me a while because I'm just reading it in little spurts.

Also, I just bought Angel Evolution (The Evolution Trilogy, #1) by David Estes by Mr. David Estes...whoop, whoop! And I think I'm gonna start that tonight. I'm excited. So, David...do you want a brutally honest review?? Or should I just be like "IT WAS AMAZING!!!", no matter what :)

Aww thanks Bethany, I really appreciate it!! Do whatever you feel comfortable with, I don't like to influence anyone's reviews of my books. I won't hold it against you either way, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I'm just trying to entertain people!! In any case, Angel Evolution was my first book, so it ain't perfect, but a lot of people have found it quite entertaining and unique. I'll be releasing a dystopian soon though, which I'm VERY proud of and I think you'll all love. (at least I hope so!)

Jen (baynej) | 151 comments Currently reading: Fever (The Chemical Garden, #2) by Lauren DeStefano
Either I'm not in the mood to read or this one isn't nearly as good as the first. I'm having a hard time getting into it (obviously since I've been reading it for almost 2 weeks). Anyone have opinions on this?

Thinking of moving on to: Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James

I loved WITHER, but FEVER pretty much sucked. It was just weird and didn't move the story along much at all, IMHO. If you ditch and go on to 50 SHADES you'll probably do yourself a favor.

message 1165: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments Wow guys...I like Fever sooo much more!! The first few chapters are a bit slow...but I think the writing makes you feel the same way the characters felt. I kinda don't want to give you a spoiler if you haven't gotten there, but maybe you need it. The tents were drugged, making them get in this funk and not want to leave. I really felt like I was there. LOVED Fever!!

Well, I love it!! It's one of m favorite series :)

Ps- I'm loving Angel Evolution and I didn't mention it before, but the whole 'angel genre' is my least favorite in the world of paranormal literature. So, i was kinda worried that i wouldn't like the book. But I do! love that they aren't fallen angels. It's so refreshing!!!

♥ Rebecca ♥ David wrote: "It seems I created a bit of controversy by starting The Mortal Instruments lol! I guess I'll have to let you all know who I agree with :)"

Clare's books seem to be love or hate or hate for sure. I love her world building and most of her characters. But I hate her stories and romances. I find them horrendous. Honestly, I dont see the appeal.

message 1174: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Don't get me wrong, I agree that Cassandra Clare isn't the most amazing author. She writes really 'snarky' characters and sometimes it's just laid on a little too thick. There's definitely stuff about her writing that I dislike. But, personally I enjoy the story in The Mortal Instruments. I like the shadowhunter world and I like that there are vampires and werewolves and fairies. I like the mix. And I love book three. It's a series that, for me, had a satisfying ending. Which is a big deal to me because I hate when you wait for that last book and then it just, falls flat. But, that's my opinion.

I agree with Rebecca that it seems to be either a love it or hate it series. I loved it. I also read it pretty early on in my 'reading life'. I didn't get into reading until just like, 3 years ago. So, I wasn't picky or hard to impress back then. Maybe that's part of it, lol. My tastes have refined a bit since then...I hope, anyway. So, maybe if I was reading it at this point in my life, I wouldn't accept it as readily as I did then.

That's funny because I hear that from a lot of people- that they like The Infernal Devices more than TMI. Which is funny because I like TMI more, but I've only read Clockwork Angel so far, haven't got to the second book yet.

Let me know how you like The List. I want to read that one. I've heard good things.

message 1177: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments I enjoy Clare's comedy. She cracks me up. I was really upset with CofFA. I was Pretty upset at the ending. Crazy cliffhanger and she made you just plain mad at her!! But she completely made up for it with CoLS. LOVED it!

Infernal Devices is awesome too. I definitely liked Clockwork Prince more. But yet again, a "mean" cliffhanger. I'm seriously excited to find out what happens with that triangle. And I love both those boys, so it makes it so hard to choose. I'm not sure I felt that way until finishing CP.

message 1181: by Julie (new)

Julie Bethany,

I finished The List. It was pretty good, there were some things at the end that didn't seem quite wrapped up to me though. It was like taking a trip back to High School, I think we probably all knew the pretty girl who was a complete bitch (excuse the language), and I could relate to the sporty girl who got called a man. Even though I was fairly girly my high school was so small that I had to play on the guys soccer team and man did some people feel like that was an open invitation to call me a guy (idiots). I actually got stuck with the nickname "balls" for awhile! It went from Julie to Jules to Family Jewels to Balls... I can laugh about it now but man it sucked lol. Anyhow, sorry everyone about my book haha. Overall a pretty good read

Oh, honey...that's awful! You poor thing. Yeah, I was never really bullied in high school or anything, but even with not being on the receiving end of things like that, I still saw it all the time. And kids are relentless and really horrible sometimes. Even tho high school wasn't too bad for me, I'm still sooooo stoked that it's over forever!! lol!

Bethany I finished Angel Evolution (The Evolution Trilogy, #1) by David Estes *nods to Mr. Estes*

And I'm happy to report that I didn't hate it, lol! It was actually really good. I liked the premise, liked the characters. The only thing that had me tearing at my hair a little was Gabriel's stupidity(that whole following blindly business), but he redeemed himself in the end so I forgave him. Looking forward to the next book :)

I really want to read Dreamless. I loved Starcrossed so much. It was one of those surprisingly good books that came out of nowhere. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. It was a happy surprise.
