I'm super jealous! That book sounds really good. But it sounds really similar to Across the Universe...REALLY similar. I hope it's got it's own unique plotline and brings something fresh.

Zerge, you'll have to let us know how World War Z is. I don't know if that one would be to my liking, but it has zombies in it so I'm torn haha :)

So, miss Amy, I have to say...Passion was actually pretty dang good! Shocking, i know, but it's so different from the other two books. It's the only one of the series that I would even spend $ on.

message 553: by Bethany (new)

Bethany P.S. I miss you! Your never on here...when's this summer job of yours over?

gina Bethany wrote: "gina wrote: "I'm reading Duckling Ugly by Neal Shusterman. I absolutely love ANYTHING he writes!!!"

Neil Shusterman rocks! I want to read that that one, let us know how it is.

Bethany, I really enjoyed Duckling Ugly, but I like anything Shusterman writes. It's one of his "Dark Fusion" books, so it's kind of like a cross between Stephen King and Hans Christian Anderson. No spoilers here, but he really makes you squirm as he gets into the down-and-dirty details of the zitty ugliness of our heroine, Cara DeFido. A quick, enjoyable read with complex characters. Cheers!

gina Katherine wrote: "Gina, I am with you on Neal. I'm a new convert. :) He's great.

I'm currently reading Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins. :D"

Hey Katherine--If you want to read something by Neal Shusterman that is on not PA dystopic, but on the light-hearted side (still a great read), try The Schwa Was Here. :^)

Andrea Wright Tracy wrote: "ReadingA Plague of Angels. Not Young Adult but definitely post-apocalyptic. Quite excellent, Sheri S. Tepper is a wonderful writer."

I love Sheri S. Tepper books. I believe that she recently published a new one this year that is a sequel to A Plague of Angels. The Waters Rising
I have not read it yet, but it's on my To-Do list.

Claire Merle (clairemerle) | 3 comments Finished Divergent a couple of days ago. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why the Dauntless leaders didn't know Tess was Divergent when she manipulated her final simulation. Please someone, put me out of my misery. What did I miss? It sort of ruined the end for me and I'd love to be able to go back and reread and enjoy the end having understood whatever it was I missed. Haven't heard anyone else mention a problem with this...

message 558: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) I just finished The Hunger Game trilogy. Loved it!!

The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood, just found out that this is a sequel to Oryx and Crake so I dove right in.

Wow, am I behind the times. I had no idea there was a sequal to that book. I really enjoyed Oryx and Crake, and The Handmaid's Tale is one of my all-time favorite books. Thanks for the heads up!

Julie Claire wrote: "Finished Divergent a couple of days ago. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why the Dauntless leaders didn't know Tess was Divergent when she manipulated her final simulation. Please so..."

As far I know you didn't miss anything, the Dauntless leaders just aren't too smart apparently. Check out the thread on Divergent in the monthly reads.

message 560: by Claire (new)

Claire Merle (clairemerle) | 3 comments Hey Julie I'll check out the thread... but if there's no other explanation I'm gonna be disappointed!!

message 561: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rmenard) I'm reading The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa . I'm halfway done. Meghan, the MC, comes off bratty and "woe is me" at first, and I keep thinking of Labyrinth as I read it (minus David Bowie in tight pants)...but I will see how the end plays out.

message 562: by Bethany (new)

I love that series. It felt very alice in wonderlandy to me. The MC can be annoying, but I liked her overall.

Okay people...get ready to be jealous! This is why it pays to befriend your local librarian. She gets uncorrected proofs of upcoming books...and now I'm sitting here...with this beautiful book in my hands...that doesn't come out for another week...but I'm reading it NOW!
Forever by Maggie Stiefvater ...yeah baby!

message 563: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Also got a copy of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater , which I hadn't even heard of, so I was pleasantly surprised. And A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies , which I'm not that excited about, but I'll read it anyway and let you guys know how it is ;)

message 564: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm so jealous Bethany! Definitely let me know about The Scorpio Races and A Beautiful Dark, I think I have both those on my "maybe" list.

message 565: by Leah (new)

Leah | 2 comments In the past two weeks I have read the Hunger games trilogy - couldn't put it down! Now on to reading Gone.

message 566: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Myers (teresamyers) About 100 pages into Starcrossed (Thief Errant, #1) by Elizabeth C. Bunce . Not gonna lie. Not loving it so far. It's kind of slow, and feels familiar some how. Put I plan on finishing it if I can make myself. Does anyone know if it gets better?

Also just a few pages into Night Runner (Night Runner, #1) by Max Turner and liking it so far. Enough that I'd rather read it than Starcrossed.

message 567: by Bethany (new)

Hehe...I read Starcrossed. Honestly, I liked it, but it's not one that's really stuck with me. If I'm remembering correctly, it does get better, but not like, 'blow your mind' better.

message 568: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (panda62897) | 8 comments Help! Trying to decide if I should read Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie or Birthmarked (Birthmarked, #1) by Caragh M. O'Brien next. I have both of them and they both look so good I can't choose...

message 569: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Just finished Forever by Maggie Stiefvater ... but i'm not gonna comment on it...

Moving on to some new M.S. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

It took me some real trying to latch on to the characters and plot, but I find myself wondering what is going to happen and wanting to read when I am doing other things, so I know that it has gained my attention.

Bethany J_Byrd wrote: "I think everyone will be happy to know that I got a hardcopy of City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare for my birthday!! Already on Chapter 5! Actually loving this one more than the first one :)"

YAAAAY!! I'm so happy for you! I'm glad you're getting more into it too, cuz the third books EVEN BETTER!!!

Graciela wrote: "Hey was the Trylle Trilogy good?? Was enclave good too? Im afraid to look at the reviews cuz of spoilers..."

I can't answer about Enclave, haven't read it yet. However, I have read the Trylle trilogy and it was amazing. One of my favorite series! And, for how cheap they are...you can't go too wrong :)

message 577: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I liked Enclave a lot. It was an interesting story and I think I read it in one sitting.

I am just starting Every Last Kiss (The Bloodstone Saga, #1) by Courtney Cole . It has some really good reviews so I hope I like it.

Cheryl Salway | 1 comments Katie wrote: "I just finished Incarceron and want to read Sapphique but it's not available on the Kindle!!! Ugh! Any suggestions for my next read?"

I just finished reading Blood, Red Road by Moira Young. It is a new YA dystopian book, highly reviewed by the NY Times! LOVED IT!

message 579: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 22 comments Graciela wrote: "Hey was the Trylle Trilogy good?? Was enclave good too? Im afraid to look at the reviews cuz of spoilers..."

Both are great reads. I also read Enclave in one sitting (~4 hours) and really enjoyed it. There is a 2nd book planned but it will be a while. The Trylle series is completed and as Bethany mentioned, they are very cheap so it is definitely worth it. Of all the series I have read its hanging out around the top of the list.

J_Byrd wrote: "Andrew wrote: "Currently read The Passage (The Passage, #1) by Justin Cronin which is a good read so far. Its very long though ..."

Will do J_Byrd. 64% done :)

message 580: by Bethany (new)

Bethany The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

So, this book was fantastic! Very different from the Shiver series. It was way lighter on the teenage angst. Very interesting storyline and folklore, great characters. Very touching story overall...I loved it!

message 581: by Candice (new)

Candice (thecrj) Just recently finished The Compound by S.A. Bodeen . It was a quick, simple read, but was still interesting. Given enough money, a very plausible and creepy storyline.

Just started reading Girl in the Arena by Lise Haines , about 50 pages into it. Dystopian, but not in the sense that the whole world has gone down the drain. Reality tv/entertainment has just gone to the extreme.

message 582: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I've been wanting to read both of those books Candice. Lucky.

message 583: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 58 comments Gina, will have to check out that Neal book! :D

Bethany, let me know about A Beautiful Dark. I'm jealous - it's got a pretty cover. LOL

message 584: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Definitely! I'm starting it today :)

message 585: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez (marez3397) Thanks Bethany and Andrew! I will definitely have to check those out!

message 590: by Julie (new)

Julie I finally finished Blood Red Road (Dustlands, #1) by Moira Young ! It took me like 3 weeks for some reason...I did like it though, gave it 4 stars.

Bethany Just picked up these guys...
Strange Angels (Strange Angels, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow Betrayals (Strange Angels, #2) by Lilith Saintcrow Jealousy (Strange Angels, #3) by Lilith Saintcrow

Can't wait to read em!!!

message 592: by Candice (new)

Candice (thecrj) About 100 pages into Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer . Can't say I am too attached to any of the characters. I'll finish the book, but I don't know if I'll pick up the rest of the series.

Bethany - I just picked up Strange Angels (Strange Angels, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow , too. Excited to start it!

message 593: by Natasha (new)

Natasha (nerdynatasha) | 1 comments I just finished reading Torment by Jeremy Bishop . It was pretty good. There were a few grammatical errors that I notified the author about in order for him to make the necessary changes. Torment had a combination of Doomsday, pre apacolypse and post apaocolypse, a new twist on hell on earth and the esape if possible from a thing far worse than death. Torment after despair with a hint of tear jerking are around every corner while chased by beings that horrifically survived the total nuclear elimantion of life on the planet, becoming things far worse than zombies. How do the only survivors return to survive this hell on earth...or was this hell?
The novel was a thrilling easy read that touched on the themes of family, closure, gluttony, surviving merely for the sake of someone other than themselves, adultery, faith, and the idea that one of the survivors was the reason the whole world had blown up. How would the survivors escape the fate that the others rose up again from the death to become?

message 594: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Finished Eden by Keary Taylor !!! This book was so sooo good! I absolutely loved every minute of it. Great story, great characters.

message 595: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Strange Angels (Strange Angels, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow
...was sooo good. It was like stepping back into the world of Vampire Academy, only someone else's story. I wasn't sold at first...some of the lingo threw me off and even the different spellings and names for the creatures. But I was definitely won over in the end. So much so that I'm gonna start the next book right now and stay up way past my bedtime ;)

Who needs sleep???
