message 1002: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (feileacan) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Zara, 20, a Forensic Science student at university in the UK. When I'm not in the labs I love to be reading and would like to expand my knowledge in the classics; my family are not all English so I was not brought up to read these books because they say they're too difficult, but I like to challenge myself :) can't wait to get reading!

message 1003: by Jimmy (new)

Jimmy Welcome Zara, I hope you enjoy!

message 1004: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hello Nikki, I look forward to some long discussions with you. We are reading Little Women next month if you wish to join us.

Hi Zara, I used to want to study forensic science, though was put off by my lack of A grades in science at high school! What uni are you at? Classics are not all about hard reading, though some are more difficult than others. Might I recommend some to you if you let me know what genres you like?

message 1005: by Sarah. B (new)

Sarah. B Hi everyone. Just joined the group and thought I should introduce myself. I`m Sarah, 28, and have decided I really want to read more of the classics. Hopefully I will be able to find a copy of Little Women for next month. Some of my favourite classics are To kill a Mockingbird, Brideshead revisited and East of Eden.

message 1006: by Allison (new)

Allison | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Allison and I'm from Louisiana. I'm new to goodreads and I was so excited to find other people reading the classics.

Clinton (clinton_s) | 21 comments Nikole wrote: "...so I am very excited to participate in this group and get to know all you ladies."

Hello Nikki,

When you say "all you ladies," are you under the impression that this group is exclusively female? Not to sound accusatory, it's just that that part of your introduction threw me off...

message 1009: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hiya Sarah and Allison! :)
Very nice to meet you both. I hope you do both find copies of Little Women and join us in our read. If not there is always our September read which is Anna Karenina.

message 1010: by The Book Worm (new)

The Book Worm | 4 comments Hi everyone, my name is Bridget, I live in New York and I'm new to Good Reads. I love reading anything and everything, especially classics and memoirs/diaries/biographies. My favorite author is Anaïs Nin and my favorite classic book is Wuthering Heights. I look forward to meeting all of you and becoming friends.

message 1011: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hi Bridget! What is the best book to start with for Anais Nin?
Enjoy this group, it is a treasure! :)

message 1012: by The Book Worm (last edited Jul 31, 2012 10:36AM) (new)

The Book Worm | 4 comments Thank you! :)

I actually never read any of Anais Nin's fiction but I absolutely adore her diaries. A good friend of mine quoted her once to me and the first opportunity I had I looked her up. I then went to our local book store and found " The Unexpurgated Diary Of Anais Nin 1932 - 1934." (lncest From A Journal Of Love) Upon reading it I instantly fell in love with her writing and read all the volumes after. I just recently came across the earlier volumes and Im trying to work my way up to the 1932 edition.

message 1013: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Thanks, will look that up.

message 1014: by Sam (new)

Sam (samweldon) Hi, my name is Sam and I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and experience by reading more classics!

message 1015: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hi Sam. Why not join us in reading Little Women?

message 1016: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Bennett | 4 comments I just recently joined this group because I noticed that "The Fellowship of the Ring" is one of the books being read and discussed (I actually posted a blog about Tolkien on my website a few days ago.) I am an author of romance, but cut my teeth on the classics and find that I am drawn to them again.
Good to meet you all and hope to join in discussions!

message 1032: by Lucy Qhuay (new)

Lucy Qhuay Hey fellows!
I'm Lucy and, even though I love to read all genres, I'm ashamed to tell that I haven't read many classics.
But my new goal is to read a lot of them.
I just started The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. :)

message 1033: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hi to all you new classic readers. I am so glad that many of you who haven't so much experience in classics have decided to tackle them. It may seem daunting as there is quite a big 'hoohar' made about them, but really they are just like any other book, but often very good reads. I hope you feel comfortable in our group as I know that it can be intimidating starting to read the classics.

message 1034: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1 comments Hello, my name is Amy. I live in Ohio. I'm making an effort to read the classics. I've read a couple but have tended to bypass the heftier books. It looks like this group is doing Anna Karenina in September and I actually have that one so ..no excuses. I'm working on We the Living by Ayn Rand at the moment and read Animal Farm last week.

message 1035: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hiya Amy, I do hope you enjoy Anna Karenina as much as many of our group members do.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
Welcome, Lucy and Amy!

message 1037: by Naomi (new)

Naomi Hello, people. I'm Naomi. Nicolle got me on here,we're frinds (I think!). I have loved reading the classics for a few years now, but there's still so much I haven't yet touched upon. I tried to read Anna Karenina once and tailed off, so this seems like a good time to have a do-over. Seeing as I am technnologically illiterate, I would really appreciate any tips on how to get the best out of Goodreads. Thanks! :)

message 1038: by Holly (new)

Holly | 92 comments Welcome Naomi!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
Hi Naomi.

The way to learn Goodreads is to dive in. Look up reviews on books you enjoy or intend to read. You can start adding books to your own account and over time, you get a feel for the different things you can do on this site.

message 1040: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hi Naomi, nice to see you on here :)

message 1041: by Tizzy (new)

Tizzy Random (tizianacaso) Hi all, I'm Tiziana from Italy and I love English Literature. I hope to learn a lot from you all!

message 1044: by Katy (new)

Katy (kradcliffe) | 12 comments Hello! I'm Katy in Scotland. I read mostly classics, mainly because I never know what new books are any good, and thought it would be fun to talk about them with people who are coming to love them.

message 1049: by John (last edited Sep 14, 2012 02:54PM) (new)

John Garner (jdgarner68) | 82 comments Hi, I am John from Georgia, U.S. I enjoy classics more than any other category, so it is hard to name a favorite book; my list would go on and on. I'll just name a couple that are among the many: Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo./ Bronte, Jane Eyre/ Ishiguro, Remains of the Day. There are many I haven't read that I would like to get around to, so this club suits me.

message 1050: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) Hey there John welcome to the group!
