Hello Jonathan! :)

On the more science fictiony side there's Jules Verne and H.G. Wells if you haven't already read them of course. I've not read enough of either myself to be sure of that recomendation, but they are on my to read list.

I also would nominate anything by Poe in terms of gothic horror. He is the master of gothic horror short stories.

Thank you for your suggestion will do that :) I'm also into French classics. And I'm wanting to read also Frankenstein and Dracula.

Hi, Mandy.
"...Flowers for Algernon (is that considered a classic?)" Do you think so? If yes, then yes. I loved it when I first read it long ago (didn't like the movie though).

Hello Nicolle! Thank you. This group is awesome and very challenging. :))

I never thought the group would take off like this, I expected no one would be interested!

Hi, josie1 and josie2. I can't see your shelves, so I don't know what you've read, but if you're enjoying Pride & Prejudice, you'd likely enjoy other 19th century British lit too. You might also like some southern stuff like Carson McCullers or Faulkner.

wow ididn't notice i wrote it twice, my computer probably glitched and i had to post it again differently. I mostly read YA fiction but im trying to read classics this summer. Ive also heard of faulkner
I was just joking with you, josie. ;)
Have you read Tolkien? I think the group is reading him next month. You might like A Tree Grows in Brooklyn or To Kill a Mockingbird. I always recommend Flannery O'Connor and Jorge Luis Borges; short stories are a good introduction to things and O'Connor and Borges are two of the best.

I'm glad alot of people recommend it because i'm just trying to get through the first chapter right now, what do you think of Jane Austen?
To Kill a Mockingbird would be a great next step. Hope you have fun whichever direction you go in.

Many people are surprised that I enjoy Jane Austen due to being a guy. For me, it's about how well she captures her aristocratic, early 19th-century lifestyle. It's before there was booming industry and big corporations, so people rode in carriages, wrote letters, read by the fireplace, etc. Austen's world was realistic, but it feels so imaginary. It's nice to take a step back and read about a simpler life. If you find the language difficult, just keep going. It will become easier once you're used to the style. Also, the chapters in Pride and Prejudice go by quickly, which is satisfying.

I'm Miguel and I'm from Jalisco at Mexico. I like to read most genres . My favourite classic book is 1984 and War and Peace

Hi, Miguel and Tee and everyone else new.
hello, my name's Chrissy. In school they only had us read Shakespeare, I've been interested in reading the classics for awhile, and I finally got a kindle fire, so here I am. :) So far I've read Frankenstein, Alice in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass. I live in Michigan with my husband and two cats. :)

My name's Gabriela and i live in Spain. I'm not actually new in here but just wanted to say hi. The group inspires me to read more and I really enjoy reading some discussions.
I can't choose a favorite author/book. Some of my favs are To Kill A Mockingbird & Jane Eyre.

I'm Nikki and just graduated from the University of South Florida with my degree in English Literature and was starting to lose my mind without having an outlet for discussing my thoughts on the books I'm reading - so I am very excited to participate in this group and get to know all you ladies.
I love reading anything and everything, but due to my class load these last couple of years I haven't had the time to indulge in anything extracurricular. So I have some serious catching up to do. I am a voracious reader and once a book has caught my attention I am unlikely to put it down until I've devoured it!
I have always read the classics during classes with the intent to analyze and decipher aspects of the novel, but never just enjoyed them. I'm looking for a comfortable place to start and this group seems right. I'm excited to get started!
<3 Nikki
