Hahahaha ah well I can feel good about myself knowing no enjoyment of the romance classics can compare to that.

This is Aditya (adie) from India. I'm 22, an engineer by profession; studying for my masters degree.
I wasn't a reader in my older days. However new friends in past 2-3 years introduced me to the beauty hidden beneath the pages. Slowly got into the classics. Having English as a second language, I find it difficult to decipher the old classical books. I've just started reading "Tale of Two Cities". Let's see how well I go!

Thank you :) (Danke) Yes it is Guten Tag:)

Sure thing and yes I love my cricket and play every Saturday during the Summer. I'm from Australia so that should explain a lot: cricket being one of our two major sports.

Cool. I have a friend in Adelide. Well, seems Australia is having a good hand in ongoing series. India blew it all in the test series. And today's match was bad too. Let's see what happens next.
Two major sports? I guess the other is Rugby, right?

This is Martyna from Poland who has fallen in love with classics recently. I am amazed by Polish author Stefan Żeromski (who is mostly hated for the books we have to read at school, but his writing is really incredible). I want to get into British and German classics, because those are two languages I am going to study soon. Well, I hope I am.

Yeah but to be fair we did catch a bit of luck with the new players we chose and Ponting just came good. I'm still thinking that it could be India and Australia final in the ODIs.
Um well we play cricket in summer and winter its actually more AFL. Which is our own sport we invented. Australian Rules Football... Rugby's also popular but it's not so nationally accepted. Same with soccer. We like all the other sports too. Melbourne being kind of the unofficial sports capital of the world in many ways. If you ever come down in October you'll see the MCG get flooded with people supporting football teams. About 100,000 all up it's impressive for a country with about 21,000,000 I believe.
Also welcome Martyna.

Enjoy!

I heard it in news today that Dhoni would be expelled from the team for the upcoming series. We're all waiting for 100th century of Sachin Tendulkar (the God), and then he'll be retired too. Well, I really appreciate the strategies Australian players have made. Plus Indians have gone out of track after getting World Cup in hand. Anyways, all we want is a good game, and we are having it ;)

I'm pretty new to classics too, but I'm reading a little more these days and I'm enjoying it. At the same time there's still a lot for me to learn and it's encouraging to have a group of other classics readers around! :)

My grandma started reading classics to me as a very young child. I'm having a good time with classics that I thought would be new to me, but are very familiar once I really start reading.

Hello to Nipuna, Stephanie, Melissa, and Heather!!
This group will blow your socks off! There are so many opportunities to read classics with the group, no matter what your reading pace. Also take a look at our birthday competition which is closing on the 14th March.

It's nice to meet everyone!

I love reading the classics, and prefer them; I love literature, not books. I need a metanarrative; do you know what I mean?!
Anyway, I am happy to find this group; I just read 1984 again, too bad I missed it last fall with you all! I look forward to reading with you!
Cheers!

Hi Nicolle,
I grew up in a rural town in the northeast of the U.S., but I find that I identify more with Canadian literature than U.S. literature. Growing up, I read Faulkner, Steinbeck, Alice Walker, etc… but could really feel a personal connection to any of the characters... maybe Edith Wharton, but that's the only one I can think of, off the top of my head.
But, Alice Munro's Lives of Girls and Women-- that I can definitely identify with. But even other Canadian authors, both male and female, I love reading and really can “connect” with the characters.
Finally, I have to say that my absolute favourite author of all time is Michael Ondaatje. He is so poetic, and his prose has so many layers, I love reading it and reveling in the meaning that he weaves.

I retired last May and enjoying more time to read and look forward to discussing them with others. I couldn't even begin to give my favorite classic. Of course the Narnia books and Lord of the Rings and all the old mystery series . . . I've got Sherlock Holmes so hope to get into that discussion.
