Hello,

I am Laura and I have been an active Goodreads member for a few years now. I am lookforward to reading the classics with this group!
I'm not sure what the defination of a "classic" is so if anyone can define it for me that would be great! I look forward to some great discussions.

Laura

I've honestly never read a classic that wasn't a school assignment. I joined to help change that hopefully!

message 636: by Jean-Francois (last edited Jan 12, 2012 06:25PM) (new)

Jean-Francois Amiot (jfreading) Hello, I also recently joined this group.
My name is Jean-Francois from Canada.

So far, I read: the pearl, 1984 & Animal Farm, Robinson Crusoe (My first book ever when I was a kid) I normally read fantasy, SyFi and Science, but hoping to extend my reading horizons by joining this group. And who knows, maybe I will discover a SyFi book that is also a classic! I hear Carl Sagan wrote some modern classics.

I now read (almost) exclusively on my Kobo. Didn't read too much anymore with life getting in the way, until I got the e-reader and now I've been reading a lot more.
Anyway, looking forward to discuss books with all and read the monthly group read.

message 637: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Hello! I just joined! I'm so exciting to read and discuss classics. I read some in high school but didn't appreciate them as I do now. I am currently reading Tale of Two Cities. I'm hoping to finish it and begin reading February's book selection. Can't wait! :)

Hello!
Yes, there are some science fiction works that are classics. Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and other works by Jules Verne are classics and are considered science fiction. Enjoy!

Welcome Jean-Francois. Hello. 1984 was a great read. There's also some Arthur Conan Doyle that fits the bill for classic Sci-Fi. The Challenger stories (Starting with The Lost World) and Edgar Rice Burroughs Baroom Series (John Carter of Mars). Jules Verne's got severl wonderful stories.

I can't wait to dig into those a little more myself (I read most of them when I was younger, but my ability to appriciate them has grown as I've gotten older (and I liked them then so it's double fun for me now).

message 641: by Nicolle (new)
