We just put it to see how it looks.. It is a simple one for the start.. We thought of doing some more designs before finalising it..

You are also can create a masthead and we shall add it if it is the best available.. :) (we shall have vote as well :D)..

Kunal Sen | 506 comments Is it possible to place the fantasy challenge 2013 list somewhere else on the page or is it an irreversible outcome of the goodreads page settings?

Corrected.. :)

By default the challenges appear at the top.. We have removed the list and given the link for the thread to refer the author list.. Thanks.. :)

Its a good idea mods have a think

message 217: by Sherin (new)

Sherin Punnilath (shery_7) | 7330 comments //This is my personal opinion//
The GR awards sadly turned into a popularity contest because most people who've voted hadn't read many from the list.
So I don't think it will make much sense..

We can consider a favourite book /best Indian book or something,though..

message 218: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments I agree any kind of book awards will only turn out to be a popularity contest. That said, i believe if we limit the entrants to the awards from the books read in either group reads or cozy reads - we might have a decent pool of popular+read books, just a food for thought - posting it here so members also can have a say in this...

message 219: by Rags (new)

As the participation for group reads was low, we decided to suspend group reads for now..

But we encourage members to create cozy reads threads for the books they want to discuss..

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments One suggestion is also to include poetry in the monthly group reads. Either an entire body of work of a particular poet or a few poems or an era or a genre of poems. If the mods need a basic outline, I can help provide specific details. For the time being, I can suggest that we take an era at a time, select, say, 5 poems or 10 poems representing that era, 5 lesser-known good ones, 5 known ones and readers can read and discuss. We can provide links to the poems as most poetry is easily accessible online, and I feel, poetry has been much neglected.

Every month, a chronologically succeeding era can be chosen. I can even help provide a very short, intelligible and interesting note on the features of that era so that reading those poems will actually make sense. We can alternate with European/American and Indian poetry, or simultaneously separate threads for both.

Not really.
We are planning to have a quarterly read this time around.

Thanks for the suggestion.
In group reads we generally have two categories - Indian and Non Indian.
currently there is no genre specific division.
So,please go ahead and nominate the book you find discussion worthy, for the next group reads.. :)

Otherwise, you may initiate a thread in the 'Cozy Reads' folder for any book that you want to read and discuss.
Happy reading!

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments I don't know how to nominate books. Can you plz provide a link or let me know how to do it. Thanks..

message 231: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47117 comments Mod
there will be a new thread opened where you may nominate your choice a few days before the book polls. I think our next group reads is a couple of months away

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments Why not have a good Bangla book (trans. into English) for our next group read?

message 234: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments There seems to be some kind of bug here. In post no. 48 of thread http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7..., I posted a link to the Constant Reader group for a similar thread I'd created there. When I click on the link, half the times it is directed to the proper destined page, but at least half the time, it somehow goes directly to some 'Pride and Prejudice Discussion' post.

Can't make out where the problem is. I edited the link in my comment, tried it again and again, with mixed results. Plz check it... Thanks.

message 235: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments It seems u have copied ur earlier post from the other thread. Since its a html link, the link itself is not copied, only part of the text is copied. U have to again copy the link from ur older post by clicking on 'edit' - then u will get it here correctly. This sort of editing is a pain in GR, no go but to live with it.

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments Aditya wrote: "It seems u have copied ur earlier post from the other thread. Since its a html link, the link itself is not copied, only part of the text is copied. U have to again copy the link from ur older post..."

I already did as you have suggested before posting my problem here. And still the trouble remains. :(

message 237: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments step1: click on 'edit' on ur post in the new thread
step2: delete ur incomplete html link (notice that ur link stops after /topic/show/1 , indicates its incomplete)
step3: go to ur older thread (in archive folder), right click on ur html link (to constant readers group), select 'copy link location'
step4: paste in ur message under edit in the new thread.

This shud work, don't mind my over-detailed instruction manual-like post above. Just wanted to rule out any gaps in understanding each other :)

message 238: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments Done :) thanks... don't know where I went wrong, but it's solved now. Still can't understand how the same link can go to two diff places randomly :(

message 239: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments Will dramas/plays be under the category of books or will it be a new thread like ones for poetry and short stories?

message 240: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Lit Bug, we would encourage you to create a new thread inside the folder named "Genres" - in future if we see too many simultaneous discussions happening on that same thread, we will grow that into a separate folder.

message 241: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments I'm not aware of the layout of GR groups being only a member so I have a question. Isn't there a facility for creating sub-folders? It would be a lot neater and accessible then.

message 242: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Unfortunately that feature is not yet available. Hundreds of moderators put up their requests to the GR development team for ideas like these, since they are only 30 guys, things take a while :)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Lit Bug wrote: "Where do we discuss books?"

ha ha :) Eventually i thought this would come up! I was exactly waiting for this question since morning. I Wanted to discuss with other mods and scout around for suggestions, but for now, i shall create one folder for this.

message 245: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments :D Not in any urgency to discuss a book. You can discuss first..

message 246: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments I saw on other groups that their home page shows up to 10 threads under each folder, even if they have more folders than this group, while our folders show only 4 threads each. It gets a bit tiring when we forget the folder to which a particular thread belongs when it has gone under. Would it be possible to allow more threads under each folder?

I have a different take here. Those who wanted to discuss have already discussed, with nothing more to say, mostly. Wouldn't it be good if we decide on a new book and at least there will be SOME participation instead of a few threads lying completely/almost idle?

message 248: by Lit Bug (Foram) (new)

Lit Bug (Foram) | 1354 comments I doubt if anybody will post on a thread like this, but just in case, where do we discuss essays?

It is an option for each groups.. With just 4 threads (latest commented) displayed, it will take a while to load the home page if we have 10 threads per every folder displayed..

You can create a thread under genres if you want to discuss the books of essays.. If you wanna discuss the essays from a magazine/newspaper etc., u can use
