This is something like we do for BOTM and selecting/voting part is the easy one. its the discussion part that is difficult to carry. :(

Even BOTM threads sometimes get bare minimum response. But we can try this if we have at least 10 people who are active on GR regularly and are ready to discuss the chosen books. :)

Yeah, that's true.

Do most even check the threads (excluding Mods, of course)?
Now that you mention it, members, anyone interested?
*imagine the cartoon bookworm with a puppy face* :)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I like this Bookworm, but even in the BOTM discussions many just pitch in their 1liner. Not drawn out or ask their own questions for someone else to answer. so, I'm not sure whether this one will garner much.
second issue would be the disparate reading choices, speeds etc.
we could try it with this month BOTM

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Leena, that's true.
But our BOTM, we don't necessarily nominate polarizing books. What I was thinking was more of a - 'Love It or Hate It' kind where even if we objectively think the book is good, we could still subjectively fall into either the love (4/5) or the hate (1/2 or only 1) category.

I do agree with you, the participation issue though. It might not garner much. Yeah, we can try it with BOTM.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments even botms - I know I've been kinder with my views sometimes but, whenever Ive pointed out my misgivings, I've not had manykpoit out what thye liked. I get it - it's a personal choice but what what are the factors that drove you to give a certain rating - ?
like Fredrick Backman's Anxious People- I couldn't read more that 2 pages and people.were spouting off reams and reams of praise. He's a really bad writer. his sentence structure sucked, I just stayed away form that one discussion

Yeah, understand. I even have trouble rating something a 2 star. I think it through and see if atleast it's a decent work objectively or has some or the other plus point and round it up to 2.5/3 stars.

I liked Anxious People as a story, if that makes sense. Not all the sub-plots but the one with the banker-cop-psychologist mainly. It was cliche but I liked it, nevertheless.
Will I like it again to that extent if I happen to reread - not sure.
One thing is, I like it much more than 'A Man Called Ove' which is like everyone's favorite. And I do have some very subjective reasons for that.
