Joseph La (innovatedmind) | 3 comments Hey everyone!

I just got my first kindle two days ago for Christmas and i've already downloaded 8 books! I love this thing to death (it even beats one of my latest toys.... my new android phone I purchased after thanksgiving)

I was wondering if there is anyway to tell your kindle that you've read other books before it so your "amazon suggestions" has a bigger selection cue... because i've read almost 30 books so far (i'm a new reader... i've only been seriously reading for 2 years) in paperback and when I go to the kindle store on my kindle 80% of the "suggested books" it gives me i've already read.

Let me know if there is any fix!

Thank you so much!

- Joseph

Aaron (scruffynerfer) There is no way to do it on your kindle but you can do it through Amazon.com. Just search for the book ter and scoll down about half way down the page, just before the reviews and you should see a box to tick saying "I own it" tick that and it will be remember so you don't get it recommend to you. Also f you rate the book you will ge better recommendations as it will know what you like and don't.

Just 1 other thing, when you do the above, add it as own to the kindle edition and not the paperback, even if you didn't read it on kindle, as that will update on the store on the kindle. If there isn't a kindle version then add it any way, this will help amazon.com to reccomend but not the kindle store

Aaron (scruffynerfer) No problem, enjoy your kindle!

Anita Aaron, I thought this was a great idea, but I can't find it on the amazon page, a button that says I own it. I would love to add my previously read list.
I just keep adding things to a wish list too, from Goodreads, and hoping maybe some low price suggestions will come up.

I have just been on amazon.com and found out that it isn't their. I am from the uk and we do have this on the product page. I do not understand why the American site doesn't have this as it's quite handy thing to have. I think it works if you you add books to your wish list. Maybe you could e-mail Amazon and see if this feature is coming soon

Hey Jason,

So far i've downloaded "Uglies" / "The City of Ember" / "The City of Sparks" / "The Name of the Wind: The Kingkiller Chonricles, Day 1" / "Dune" ... to name a few... but there are soooo much more,

What about you? Can you suggest me some? I always search for the "edge-of-your-seat / escapism" book.

Thea Atkinson (theaatkinson) | 42 comments I'm a new kindle user too. And I had no idea I could do this. I'm going to go straight to Amazon and look for the books I've read. Thanks for the advice.

Andrez (andrez-ssi) hi, I'm a new kindle user (mine came 3 hours ago) and I really need to know how I can check my kindle email. Can someone help please?

message 11: by Diane U (last edited Dec 28, 2010 10:32AM) (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Congrats on receiving your new kindle!

When you send something to "YOURNAME@kindle.com" is just shows up when your whispernet is on just like when you purchase a book.

Dee (austhokie) | 370 comments there isn't a kindle email per say...but like above...its used for sending stuff to your kindle either wirelessly, or for amazon to convert stuff for you

message 13: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) thanks. I just asked because of netgalley. they have this button to send the galley to your kindle but i haven't received the books yet :(

message 14: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 370 comments ahh...ok, then you need to add netgalley to your list of accepted addresses. if you go to your manage my kindle page on amazon (in my account) - there is an area where you can input emails that you will accept emails from if they are sent to your kindle - you need to make sure that netgalley is one of them. i just got set up on netgalley the other week and had to make sure it was registered to my account

message 20: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) ah I've figured it out! the problem was the individual charge limit *facepalm*

stormhawk | 542 comments If you have wifi you can send conversions to (name)@free.kindle.com and it will only download through when the wifi is active. the charges are for 3G usage.

message 22: by SheRa (new)

SheRa (evilwinterelf) | 2 comments I need some advice. I really want to get a kindle, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost. I worry it may not be the best thing for me. I've read that it's hard to see the screens on some of them and that there were other problems with them. I'm also not sure if it'll last very long if I lug it around in my purse or drop it. I drop my phone a lot.
Please help!

stormhawk | 542 comments The Kindle is worth every single penny. It rocks beyond rockingness. They are fairly sturdy, but do benefit from being in a case of some kind. I use a Timbuk2 Sleeve.

message 24: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Hi! I too got my Kindle last month and am gushing to no end. My partner has some serious competition (and he was the one who gave it to me for Christmas!) Hahaha.

In the Asia/Pacific (I'm from Manila) what's free for US users costs 2 dollars but that hasn't stopped me from hoarding. Plus I have tons of ebooks on my hard drive that Calibre converts for my Kindle.

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but where can I find the instructions for organizing my books on the Kindle?

message 25: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Shame on me... Thanks Rick!
