Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments LOL, that's even better, Mrs. J.

message 202: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments LMAO @ MrsJoseph

I want to do that, just to see the look on people's faces.

Laurel I'm re-arranging my sunroom/library to meet your challenge! I'm hoping that if they're all sitting in one spot, staring at me, they'll be harder to ignore. I have 33, which I don't think is too bad...

If I'm allowed one exception, The Wise Man's Fear is being released on my birthday. I have to buy that one! It is, in my humble opinion, the best birthday present I could possibly ask for!

message 205: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Laurel, that's a worthy exception. I think we all get a pass on that one.

message 206: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments yeah, there are three books I'll be buying soon because they're from some of my favorite authors. Abercrombie's newest is one.

message 207: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments You guys are already making plans to add to your TBR, lol! I don't feel so bad that I plan to buy about 5 books this week (or was it 7?).

message 208: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) MrsJoseph wrote: "I'm so dying here. OR someone standing on street corner with a sign "Will work for books.""

Hang on, why else do people work except to buy books...? ;)

message 209: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Exactly, Rachel!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I had a book-buying splurge yesterday. It was nice, since I haven't been able to buy as many books lately.

message 211: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments My copy of The Heros should be in tomorrow. Yay!

message 212: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Jason, who is the author on that?

message 213: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 08, 2011 04:57AM) (new)

Joe Abercrombie

message 214: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Ok, thanks, now I can look it up.

message 215: by Jason (last edited Feb 07, 2011 10:41PM) (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Yes, Joe Abercrombie indeed! I highly recommend his The First Law trilogy, if you havn't read it already.

message 216: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments How's everyone doing with this?
Last year I read 60 books off my physical shelves....only to buy about 40 more. Well, what's the point of making room on the shelves if it isn't to fill it with more books? lol

message 217: by Christine (new)

Christine At least you added less than you took off. It looks like a win win to me! lol

message 218: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments It took a lot of self control, lol

message 219: by Christine (new)

Christine For me, there is no such thing as self-control when it comes to books, lol

message 220: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Would any of you guys like to take this challenge in April? I think the challenge is you have to read only books on your TBR pile for a month. I have enough on mine that I wouldn't have to get any new books for a very long time.

message 221: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Yes, I can do it for most of this year, that's my goal, to get rid of books off my physical shelves.

Tracy Jackie wrote: "Yes, I can do it for most of this year, that's my goal, to get rid of books off my physical shelves."

Great Jackie! I think this would be a fun challenge.

message 223: by Jackie (last edited Mar 17, 2012 11:49AM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments For some reason, this challenge has been working for me so far. It helps me keep focus on what I already have on my shelves. It started as a challenge for a month and I've kept it going because it's to my benefit.

message 224: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I suck at this challenge, lol.

message 225: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I suck at this challenge, too.

message 226: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments You can do it! Are either of you going to try again?

message 227: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Actually, I'm still trying. lol

message 228: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Well good Jason then it won't be anything new for you.

message 229: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments LOL.
Maybe break it down to smaller increments, like, "this week I will only read from my TBR pile." Or even, "for the next three days....".

message 230: by Tracy (new)

Tracy They will be fine Jackie. I believe in them.

message 231: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Me too!

message 232: by Jackie (last edited Mar 17, 2012 07:45PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments I just recently started using the Order Function in the To Read shelf and I have to say, it works wonders. I'm a fan.

message 233: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Kat wrote: "I don't know if this be of any use to others, but...

My current first order functionality is to add books to my to-read list, based upon recommendations of groups and friends that I respect. Then..."

I find that I will finish a book quicker if it is a group read or a challenge. I also like when someone picks for me. I seem to want to finish so that I don't disappoint or something quirky like that.

message 234: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Jackie wrote: "Me too!"

Besides, they have two weeks to get use to the idea.

message 235: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm trying but I totally suck at it, lol!

message 236: by Christine (new)

Christine Since I went out and bunch a books this weekend, I am ready to take the challenge in April too. Hopefully I got the book buying out of my system for a while.

message 237: by Tracy (new)

Tracy That would be a good idea Christine but if you are like me it just stays a good idea.

message 238: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) This is a great thread. I am up to the challenge for this April too. Ha, ha, I can say that now -- in a month we will see. I have so many books on my TBR shelves that I am embarrassed to post them all on GoodReads.

message 239: by Christine (new)

Christine Me too, Kathy. I have so many books its almost sinful. Its my only weakness. It could be worse, lol.

message 240: by Tracy (new)

Tracy You only have two more weeks Kathy. You can make it.

message 241: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 357 comments I'm going to have to find a way to completely block myself from adding books to my TBR pile, even if it's just for a month or something. It's getting out of control.

message 242: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Valerie wrote: "I'm going to have to find a way to completely block myself from adding books to my TBR pile, even if it's just for a month or something. It's getting out of control."

^THis is me.

message 243: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) New books are tempting me. But my goal is to make it all the way through April with reading only books I have on my TBR now and not to add any others to the list either.

message 244: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Kathy wrote: "New books are tempting me. But my goal is to make it all the way through April with reading only books I have on my TBR now and not to add any others to the list either."

I agree Kathy. That would kind of defeat the purpose.

message 245: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I wish could get to some of my tbr books, but it just seems like every month I add new ones.

message 246: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Join the challenge, for one month don't add any TBR and only read what you have. It's easier than you realize once you make the commitment.

message 247: by Tracy (new)

Tracy A lot of times it's because of a challenge or group read that I will read things I have been putting off.

message 248: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) Tracy wrote: "A lot of times it's because of a challenge or group read that I will read things I have been putting off."

Oh that is so true. Luckily, in April most of the group reads are already on my TBR list.

message 249: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Am I allowed to only read TBR books for April, with the exception of Tricked (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #4) by Kevin Hearne ? I'm going to have to read that one the day it hits the stores!

message 250: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Yes Lauren, that is the goal or challenge I guess it's called.
