Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments God luck, Sashana. Just remember it is not as easy as it seems to be. You might not have a lot of homework or any at all, but you HAVE to study. I made that mistake when I started college and I am still repairing my GPA. I was one of many cocky teenagers right out of high school. Not saying you are, but I just try to give everyone this tidbit of advice.

message 302: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Thanks, Rachel. I know that I'm going to have to up my time management skills (which are currently nil). My HS GPA was horrific so I don't plan on repeating that. I'm only taking 2 classes since it's the summer semester so I don't think I'll be overwhelmed much.

message 303: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Summer sessions are good and bad. It just depends on what teacher you have and how seriousn they are. I had one summer class that was torture... shedid not change a thing up from her regular semester...crammed it all into a month. The other summer classes I have taken have been a breeze. Always something to the effect of "If you were in my regular semester class you would have to do this" or "We are skipping this part because summer session is to short to do this." I loved to hear those words. Lol. The only thing that sucked was having to go M-F for 3-4 hour classes instead of M-TH for hour and a half classes.

message 304: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Yeah, when I left high school I thought I was done with 2 hour classes but I guess not lol. I checked out my professors on ratemyprofessor.com and they all had positive reviews so I have a little hope.

message 305: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins I really like it so far, but not as much as the first, yet!

message 306: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (loves2read2011) | 1 comments The Reading Promise My Father and the Books We Shared by Alice Ozma I am enjoying this book. It has inspired me to do a reading streak (have to read it to see what I mean) with both my children and my students. Actually saw/met the author two weeks ago at my local library.

Lacey | 61 comments Reading Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick which is interesting so far, can't wait to see where this plot goes...

message 308: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and I'm a ball of emotions. My heart is breaking, my temper is flaring, I'm disgusted by the prejudice and hypocrisy, and crossing my fingers for the main characters.

message 309: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I started and finished Alpha (Shifters, #6) by Rachel Vincent last night I was hooked immediately that i stayed up all night to finish it.

message 310: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I guess you are liking The Help, Sashana? I didn't like it at all. Bored all the way through.

I also liked it Sashana. I really appreciated the author's note at the end.
Boy did I want to slap the crap out of Hilly.
One of the lines that stood out for me was:
"You is kind. You is smart. You is important"

there are many more quotes that were great.

message 314: by Sashana (new)

Sashana You can have at it with Hilly and I'll take on Elizabeth. I enjoyed the author's notes too, I think it's great that she wrote about something so close to home. I really wished that Aibileen could have had more years with Mae Mobly, but I understand that she had to to move on. One of my favorite quotes was "For Two Slice Hilly."

message 315: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) going to be reading Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

message 316: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I seem to be reading books five and six at a time lately. The current crop:
Murder Most Royal Murder Most Royal (Tudor Saga, #5) by Jean Plaidy
The Quilter's Homecoming The Quilter's Homecoming (Elm Creek Quilts, #10) by Jennifer Chiaverini
Act of Treason Act of Treason (Mitch Rapp #7) by Vince Flynn
The Shop on Blossom Street The Shop on Blossom Street (Blossom Street, #1) by Debbie Macomber
Divine Inspiration Divine Inspiration by Jane Langton

message 317: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I hear a lot of mixed reviews of audio books, but I'm a big fan of them. And here's just one reason why-- I'm packing to move, and I've listened to two complete books so far while doing it: Act of Treason Act of Treason (Mitch Rapp #7) by Vince Flynn and The New Year's Quilt The New Year's Quilt (Elm Creek Quilts, #11) by Jennifer Chiaverini . Somehow, knocking out two books so far is making the fact that the move is two weeks away, and I've packed up about 80% of my belongings--which means I could live without 80% of the crap I own!--easier to swallow.

message 318: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Reading Probability Angels Probability Angels by Joseph Devon currently. So far I really like. I got this for free in a goodreads contest and I'm glad I did. I really like the author's writing style and the plot is incredibly unique.

message 319: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Sisterhood Everlasting (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, #5) by Ann Brashares Because The Sisterhood books are one of my fave series of all time and I seriously love that she wrote a 5th one about the girls 10 years later. It's good so far, and I really hope it lives up to my expectations!

message 320: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments I just started listening to the audiobook of Sense and Sensibility and so far I'm enjoying it but am also a bit confused. I am only about 2 chapters in so I'm still trying to figure one who is who with a narrator that speaks ever so fast...

I was reading this one but got distracted by Starcrossed. I want to finish it by the end of this month though.

message 322: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Was starcrossed good sashana?

message 323: by Sashana (new)

Sashana It was great! I gave it five stars.

message 324: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I just finished Murder Most Royal Murder Most Royal (Tudor Saga, #5) by Jean Plaidy and not a moment too soon. I'd set myself to finish reading all of my unread Jean Plaidy this year but I am SO SICK of the Tudors I could hardly get through this one. I just wanted them to line up Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard and lop their heads off on page 2 and be done with it.

message 325: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Twisted (Pretty Little Liars, #9) by Sara Shepard , really like it so far! I always get caught up in these books and speed through them haha! They're so good but such a guilty pleasure :)

message 326: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I finished Ghost Town (Morganville Vampires, Book 9) by Rachel Caine and Magic Study (Study #2) by Maria V. Snyder and now reading Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder

message 333: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finished Stories I Only Tell My Friends: An Autobiography Stories I Only Tell My Friends An Autobiography by Rob Lowe which I picked up on a whim and really enjoyed. Also American Assassin American Assassin (Mitch Rapp #11) by Vince Flynn which turned out to be much better than I expected. Not sure why I didn't expect to like it-- I'm enjoying the series. I guess because it's a look back at the character's beginnings and I wasn't really in the mood to see this character at an undeveloped phase of his life. But no matter: my fears were unfounded.

message 334: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Been kinda absent lately-- dad just got put in hospice care and we just moved so things have been a little crazy. In the middle of it I found myself reading ten books simultaneously and not making a heck of a lot of progress on any of them. Finally finishing and/or making headway:

Divine Inspiration Divine Inspiration (Homer Kelly Mystery #10) by Jane Langton
Strapless Strapless by Deborah Davis
Waste Waste (Dodo Press) by Harley Granville-Barker
Separation Of Power Separation Of Power (Mitch Rapp, #3) by Vince Flynn
American Assassin American Assassin (Mitch Rapp #11) by Vince Flynn
The Aloha Quilt The Aloha Quilt (Elm Creek Quilts, #16) by Jennifer Chiaverini

Karen (EarthAngel2911) (karens_923) | 119 comments I'm reading a few different books right now. Well... listening to a couple and reading a couple.

I'm listening to Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, a Book of the Month for one of my groups, and it's pretty good. Once I got accustomed to the narrator's style, I was able to get into the story better. It takes place in a small town in Georgia in 1906 (well, at least it starts in 1906). Very interesting to read what life must have been like around the turn of the last century, especially in the deep south.

Started reading One Day by David Nicholls in preparation for the movie coming out. (Also, it's a book on one of my challenges.) When I wanted to read but had to work, I downloaded the audiobook, but I'm still only 1.5 chapters in, so it's a little early to know what I think. I can say that I don't hate it; I want to keep listening, so that's a good sign. :-)

I just started reading The Fire Within by Chris d'Lacey for 2 reasons. One, it's a book my young son is reading and I want to share it with him. Two, I can cross off another book on a couple of challenge lists! lol I know it's only a kid's book, but I like the idea of these little ceramic dragons the woman makes. I was trying to imagine what kind of dragon I would get if she were to make a special one for me. :-) And it hasn't been proven yet, but I'm sure these little dragons she makes are actually alive.

And, I'm in the middle of Lord John and the Hand of Devils by Diana Gabaldon. The book is actually made up of 3 short stories. I've read one, and in between some other books I'll read the second story. I'm trying to get through the Lord John series before beginning An Echo in the Bone since some of the characters from Echo are fully set up in the Lord John series. I know that I don't have to read these books to read the 7th book in the Outlander series, but the 8th book isn't due out until 2012, so I'm stretching out the reading experience. As soon as the 8th book comes out, I'm going to want to read it immediately! :-)

Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns One Day by David Nicholls The Fire Within (The Last Dragon Chronicles, #1) by Chris d'Lacey Lord John and the Hand of Devils by Diana Gabaldon An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon

Please let us know what you thought about the audiobook of One Day, it was one of my Fav reads last year and keep recommending the book whenever I got a chance and I am looking forward to the movie, I want to re-read the book but I am not very good at re-reads so I thought maybe audiobook can be a good idea if it is any good.

I am reading One for the Money by Janet Evanovich, I have been meaning to read this for so long and I finally started yesterday, I can't say I loved it but at least I am starting to laugh after the first few chapters.

The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, I have started to read this last month but still in the middle of it. I like it while reading it but can't say, I can't stop reading it, actually I takes me awhile to get back to reading everytime I stop reading.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, So far I am up in the air about it, the main character is kind of irritating me and I guess it is the whole point of the book as she is supposed to realise the meaning of her life and value in the following seven days (or re-lives) but it is a buddy read so I am forcing myself to go on.

message 337: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finally reading Something Borrowed Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin , which I'll bet all the rest of the chick-lit fans in this group read long ago!

message 338: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I'm working my way through Fallen and plan on reading Torment next (just picked it up at the library). So far Fallen is pretty good. I didn't know if I would like it because I'm not big on the romance side of books, but the storyline has kept my attention thus far. I'm interested to see how all of it pieces together in the end. If nothing else, at least it has awesome cover art :-)

Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate

Jane (janedee) | 322 comments I`m currently reading two books: Shantaram which I`m finding fascinating and City of Glass which I`ve only just begun.

message 340: by Sans (new)

Sans I'm trying to read Gabriel's Ghost (Dock Five Universe, #1) by Linnea Sinclair and not having an easy time of it. The hero is a mercenary/space pirate but...his flirting and cheesy pick up lines are crossing from funny to eye-roll worthy.

message 341: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) i'm reading A Bite to Remember (Argeneau, #5) by Lynsay Sands

message 342: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently reading two books:

IRON HOUSE by John Hart- enjoying it somewhat although I ssem to be acvoiding it.

TOLSTOY AND THE PURPLE CHAIR - do recommend this title

and listening to:

THEN CAME YOU by Jennifer Weiner which I am really enjoying

message 343: by Salem (new)

Salem Checked out the audiobook for Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin from my library. So far I feel like the narrator's voice doesn't match the character and it seems like we're supposed to feel sorry for the main character even though she's sleeping with her best friend's husband (don't worry, it's not a spoiler).

message 344: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 303 comments I'm reading Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater which is one of those books that leaves you torn - read fast to find out what happens or read slow and savour every moment?

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Just finished First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones and loved it. Reads like a sitcom. Dove back into Spinward Fringe Broadcast 0 Origins by Randolph Lalonde since i started it awhile ago.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I've slowed down a lot in the last month-- my dad is now under hospice care and failing fast and so much of my time has been spent traveling. So. Still reading The Luxe and now listening to The Watchman in the car. Have The Confessions of Catherine de Medici and Sizzling Sixteen up next.
