I love Poison Study!

I am reading The Mystery of Edwin Drood by Charles Dickens. I usually love Dickens, but for some reason this book isn't doing it for me.

I have also been reading In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower by Marcel Proust for what seems like forever. It is good and his writing is beautiful, but the book is just as dense as I had feared.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Finished Stay Awake by Dan Chaon which had some creepy and interesting short stories.

Also finished A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness on audio which I've been working on for a long time. I really liked this book although I didn't like the cliffhanger ending. I understand there is a sequel, but with the length of the book it dragged on a little. I still gave it 4 stars and will definitely read the 2nd book. They did just travel back in time after all.

Reading | 15 comments Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2) by Kami Garcia

I am new to this group. I did an introduction post. This is my first book post. I currently reading Beautiful Darkness. It is the second book in the Beautiful Creatures sage. This book did start a little slow. Around chapter six it has started to pick up. This series has a different take on witches(casters) which I have not read before. I also like how this story is being told by a male. This is also rare to me. So far I am enjoying this series.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) AAAAAAAARGH! All I have to say is thank the universe that Burke published another installment of his Robicheaux series before I read the one I just finished, The Glass Rainbow The Glass Rainbow (Dave Robicheaux, #18) by James Lee Burke , because this one ended with a cliffhanger!

Fiorela (filemot) | 4 comments I am reading SHATTER ME by Taheren Mafi. I am curious in the development of the plot or maybe I just want to read more about Adam but I'm also completely annoyed with Juliette.

I don't know if I will read the other books, maybe I will skip the 2nd and read ther 3rd one.

More drama than the hot cover would lead me to believe. But I love how the main female handles the issues she is dealing with. And the male character is a turn-on. He is fun and sexy.

I started Life After Life by Kate Atkinson which is such an interesting book. I am about a third through, and the premise is that the main character (Ursula) is born in 1910 and then dies, and is then reborn again in 1910. So she dies in a myriad of ways and each time comes back and 'changes', without being aware of why, the way she died last time.
It is the kind of book you need to sit and read in big chunks because otherwise it can get a bit confusing, but the writing is beautiful, great characters and such an interesting story. I'm sucked in!

message 1274: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I also am reading Life After Life - only about a quarter done - am not completely sucked in, not yet anyway, so I am also gonna start The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes and hope this one really grabs me.

Looks interesting Amanda - let me know if you still enjoy it at the end as I may add it to the list!

message 1277: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 149 comments I'm currently reading Betrayed: Days of the Rogue by Nicky Charles (there are no covers for her books because they are all ebooks) It's the newest book in her series and I'm really liking it. It's definitely one of the more interesting series I've picked up in a while and I highly recommend it.

message 1278: by Franky (new)

Franky (bookadventuress) I'm currently reading The Hobbit (Middle-earth Universe) by J.R.R. Tolkien and really enjoy it. Although I've noticed the huge difference between the book and the movie by Peter Jackson that doesn't diminish my love for both.

Also I can't wait to finally encounter Smaug!

PS: I really don't know why I haven't read The Hobbit yet. But better late than never, right?

message 1279: by Sarah (new)

Doing the buddy read of
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
at the moment and it is a very simple, easy to read story. I am enjoying the 80s flashbacks!

Also on audio I have started
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins
which I'm not that impressed with so far. Hopefully it improves

Storm I'm reading WICKED: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire.

It wasn't so hard to get through the first time I read it, though I suppose it wouldn't seem so if I were in a better reading mood. Anyways it's still a good read so far, still loving the characters.

Just started Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury on audio. I don't know why I've never heard of it. My partner read it in school and it seems to be pretty well known. Oh well, I have moved the rock off me and I'm now about a third through. Interesting book and considering when it was written I can see how other books have used this as inspiration.

Also started The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway today which is a door stop of a book as although only c.500 pages the font is pretty small. So I'm sure to tone up my arm muscles over the next few days getting through it :)

Naura (nauratheexplora) Has anyone read Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan?

Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan

I'm only 40 pages in but I just cannot find any attachment to this book. The writing makes me sleepy. It did not get the best reviews, but I always like to judge books on my own. Help!

Sorry Naura, I haven't. Although I just gave up on a book myself for the same reason. Sometimes it just isn't worth the effort when there are so many other good books out there!!

I'm over half-way through and am still waiting for something interesting to happen....

Naura, I didn't realise it was made into a movie. Considering I am 90% in and still waiting for something interesting to happen I don't think the movie will be high on my priorities to watch any time soon.....

message 1297: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently 100 pages into reading Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman. I loved Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt by this author and hope this book is as good if not better. I also am 50 pages into Elin HIlderbrand for a fast summer read. While at one time I was heavy into romance authors and books, I still enjoy this author although she is one of the last. And this latest book is fairly predictable.
This morning I am planning on beginning to listen to And the Mountains Echoed. Since I also downloaded this book I ma also read along. I never intended to listen to this book since I really prefer reading some books but it was available at the library so I decided why not?

message 1298: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments I'm rereading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and finding it to be a nice fun read again.

I'm listening to Hominids (Neanderthal Parallax, #1) by Robert J. Sawyer and am almost done, but really enjoying learning about the Neanderthal society.

I have about 50 pages left of The Dark Tower (The Dark Tower, #7) by Stephen King which I really love but things keep happening that make me want to take an emotional break of a few days before continuing, haha.
