Sashana Just finished Soulbound (Legacy of Tril, #1) by Heather Brewer by Heather Brewer and I liked it. Reminded me a little of Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead but I didn't mind.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 105 comments I'm currently reading The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan . Slow start for me, not because it's not interesting but because the font size. It's just a tad smaller then normal, so when I get all settled in my bed to read it I drift off to sleep. Lol.

You will have to let us know how you liked it when you are done. I have been thinking of starting the series, but haven't yet because of the size! :)

message 904: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Lost Daughter by Diane Chamberlain earlier today and now I'm about 40 pages into Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher.

Will do Kim!

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments I'm reading Lost in Shangri-la by Mitchell Zuckoff by Mitchell Zuckoff for my book club. I've barely started it, but it's interesting so far. It's about a plane crash in the South Pacific during World War II and the rescue mission that follows.

Also reading A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin , and way, way behind on the buddy-read. I love it, though. I've seen the first season of the TV show, so I love comparing the two.

And I'm still reading Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie by Robert K. Massie, but it's been set on the back burner for the time being.

I've been thinking of starting this, too! My Dad and a few of my cousins are huge fans of this series and have been pushing me to read this for years. I'm so intimidated by the size of it, though!

Stefani Robinson (steffiebaby140) | 807 comments About halfway through Prepare by Geoffrey Germann . I am finding myself unwilling to put it down, even with the occasional editing errors. Complicated on the sciency stuff but a good story so you really don't care.

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments OMG this book is soooo good. I can't put it down and I just started it yesterday. I am already half way through it!

message 911: by Kellyanne (last edited Jul 21, 2012 06:54PM) (new)

Kellyanne Oh, nice thread. I will follow this one. I am reading Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness and Land by Kyong-Ni Park , and am listening to the audio of The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi .

I have been a convert to audio books for about 2 years now. It's so wonderful to pop an audio book in your ears while watering the garden, doing the washing up or walking the dog. The Windup Girl is ticking all my sci-fi boxes so far, and the narrator (Johnathan Davis) is one of my favourites.

I am about 2/3 of the way through Shadow of Night and am cursing my current long working days (10-11 hours a day 7 days a week :( Boohoo) because I so desperately want to be reading it, but it lasts longer this way with chapters sneaked in between deadlines :) A friend sent me Discovery of Witches over Christmas, and I am so glad she did. I love light reads, but I get so irritated by the grammar mistakes and repetitive vocabulary use that so often appears in them. I have been really happy with Harkness so far. It's not literature quality or anything, but I REALLY don't need it to be :P

I only just cracked Land. It is the next book in my efforts to read my way around the world (Korea, I have arrived). But it is going to be DENSE, and I just don't think I am up for that right now.

message 912: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (crazylittlebookpage) I am currently reading book 2 of the Sookie Stackhouse series Living Dead in Dallas, and so far I'm liking it, I can't believe though how much different it is from the tv show really which is both nice and at the same time a bit confusing, I can't wait to see Sookie develop into herself as a character in a different way than in the tv show.

I was captivated by this series until book 6 (and definitely recommend it!!) but after book 6, I had to start pushing myself to pick it up again. I have made it half way through book 7, but it has been 6 months since I touched it. I just can't do it. In book 6 and 7 NOTHING HAPPENED!!! :( I have been told this happens in Fantasy and Sci-Fi series (to which I am relatively new). They just want to keep the franchise going and so it becomes like watching a series of Dragon Ball Z: 100 pages (or 20 episodes) later, the plot hasn't moved forwards at all :P

message 916: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Finished The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass and was pleasantly surprised. Considering the drama surrounding this book and its author I was expecting it to be horrible but it was okay. It was like a teenage version of The Bachelor.

I have been going back and forth on whether to read this one. I think I will give it a try!

message 918: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments Me too! I think I will try it out. I read up on some of the controversy and it just made me want to read it even more.

message 919: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Last night: Almost done with The Hard Way The Hard Way (Jack Reacher, #10) by Lee Child -- guess I won't be off this Reacher roll until I run out of unread books in the series. Also about halfway through Very Valentine Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani and It Takes a Witch It Takes a Witch (A Wishcraft Mystery, #1) by Heather Blake . Still haven't started Four of a Kind: A Novel Four of a Kind A Novel by Valerie Frankel which, along with Murder With Puffins Murder With Puffins (Meg Langslow, #2) by Donna Andrews , is next-up.

N. B. from today: Well I thought the two I mentioned above were my next-ups but I needed an audio book this morning so ended up starting Defending Jacob Defending Jacob by William Landay . New author for me and also unusual for me to read so recent a fiction release. Usually I'm a decade or two back for general fiction, but I just finished 11/22/63 11/22/63 by Stephen King and I downloaded Gone Girl Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn -- unusual for me.

message 920: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments Wow, that is quite a list. 11/22963 is on my list to be read next month as part of the Goodreads Choice Awards Challenge 2011. I hope it is good.

message 921: by Trinity (new)

Trinity Hanrahan (musesinspire) Tomorrow Land by Mari Mancusi

I started this yesterday/last night. I tried really, really hard to give it a chance. I was actually really excited about it as it seemed like it had a great premise!

...I have never been more let down about a book. I got about 5 chapters in and just... I just couldn't any more. It was... there are no words.

The Last Bastion of the Living A Futuristic Zombie Novel by Rhiannon Frater

I started this one after the epic failure of the other. I'm hopeful. Keep your fingers crossed! LOL

I think Sashana was replying to a certain review that was bashed by the author and few other people? Or at least that was the story I got from some other posts. Not sure how accurate it is.

That is an impressive list. Have you read Gillian Flynn before? I haven't read Gone Girl yet, but her other two are 2 of my favorite books ever that I re-read all the time. Hopefully the new one is just as good.

Basically the author is one of those that takes reviews personally and makes it a point to verbally abuse those who give her bad reviews and sic her friends on them too. That's what I gather from all of it.

Normally I would avoid authors like this, but I bought the book before becoming aware of it so I'm kinda committed to it now lol.

ETA: Oh yeah, I forgot the best bit about the author writing a whole blog and twitter rants about one particular reviewer and how she didn't have a right to review anything because she didn't finish the book, calling her names. Then had all of her friends and her agent and herself go through and "like" the good reviews to try and bury the bad ones.

So true. I have met a few physical adults that act very much like children.

Laura (lglovett) | 1444 comments Two reasons why you should run right now and get a copy of this book. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Among the lines and scenes that will make you cry, there are these lines....

"But, oh, sweet holy Lord, I would ride that one-legged pony all the way around the corral."

"Lonely, Vaugely Pedophilic Swing Set Seeks the Butts of Children."

Don't those lines just make you want to read it? I mean they are hilarious.

I like both of them!!!! It's weird because whenever there is a love triangle in a book, I always have a clear favorite and get mad when it doesn't go my way, LOL. If I had to pick, I would go with the prince, but I don't know if that's because he has been in the book more and we only saw Aspen at the beginning. I guess the jury is still out for me.

Now, I am curious.......which guy do you like better? :)

message 940: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Even though we haven't seen that much of him, I like Aspen better. However, I think the Prince will come out on top at the end of the triology based on how the series is named.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 105 comments So I finally finished The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan today. For those that wanted to know about it, it's fantastic. I highly recommend it. Lol just wish I was able to read more of it in one sitting.

About to start Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

Also just started Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen , I've heard mixed reviews so we'll see.

Sashana I'm reading The Summer of No Regrets by Katherine Grace Bond . Not sure if I'll mark it as read because I'm skimming so much. All the religious talk is making me dislike the book.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I requested Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant from the library the first day it came out, and it finally arrived! Started it last night and am already in love. This series is amazing.

message 947: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I finished Into the Flame (Darkness Chosen, #4) by Christina Dodd and now I am reading Danse Macabre (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #14) by Laurell K. Hamilton figured it was time to get back into some Anita. I still can't stand Richard though >.<

message 948: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper yesterday. Now I'm reading Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich.

message 949: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (crazylittlebookpage) The only problem I have with Living dead in Dallas is the same problem I had with the first one, Sookie and Bill stop talking for awhile and it kind of takes away from the book

message 950: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've already finished Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich, which was a short but hilarious novel, an now I'm about to start reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen.
