Repeated Viewings?
John, you probably don't remember this, but we met once briefly in the Stationmaster's office in the train station in Albany NY in about 1980. You were on your way to Chicago on the Lake Shore Ltd., as you never would get on an airplane. It was really cool to meet you that day.Oh wait. You're Sally.
Nothing. At my sister's house I'm often subjected to repeated snippets of Harry Potter movies, but that's not exactly my first choice for viewings.
Have they been out long enough for that?
I also usually watch Titanic with my sister while we work a jigsaw.

And then I like to throw on Gangs of New York.
At Thanksgiving we always listen to Alice's Restaurant.

They started coming out in 2001, I've probably been subjected to repeated viewings since 2004. That's long enough...

Doesn't the jigsaw drown out the dialogue?

With all your holiday watching and reading, how do you have time for anything else? That sounds extremely onerously timeconsuming.

Pretty much. So does the bourbon and sugar I'm consuming. And we're usually tending a wood fire and listening to holiday music at the same time. Often we're making batch after batch of empinadas that weekend too. It is a mulit-faceted tradition weekend.

Watching and reading is pretty much all I do all the time. When I'm not hanging about with teenagers getting them to write and read about things they watch and read.

We care, Larry. Maybe we should do a thread on famous people we've run into, like John Madden and Ivana Trump.
I usually watch all the big holiday cartoons/claymation thingies. Last night was Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, which I've gone on record as saying it's a MUST! Usually watch a couple of other versions of CC also.Little Women is sort of traditional for me, and I usually end up watching other black and white movies (sentimental, not crime).
I am curious,Sally, about how The Wire became a holiday custom for you? I've never seen it.
For the past three years we've had time to watch it at Christmas break. We netflixed it in 2007 and 2008 and last year I gave it to Sweeter as a gift so we watched it again.
We once met Tiny Tim in the Hotel Ft. Des Moines elevator. He was quite gracious and told us thank you for saying hello.
Mary Poppins. I like to watch Mary Poppins every holiday season. And any other chance I get. Also, The Sound of Music. And around Thanksgiving, my family will gather to watch Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion. And around summertime, we watch The Sandlot.
Anything with Julie Andrews is good in the holiday season. She's my dad's celebrity crush. We watched Sound of Music at Thanksgiving, and a couple of days I watched Mary Poppins. I still wish I could clean the house the way she does. If I could pick a superpower, I think it would be that one.

Romy Schneider also has a nice role in one of the silliest movies ever made, "What's New Pussycat?", with Peter O'Toole, Peter Sellers, and a very young Woody Allen:

NOOOOO!!!! I just read that! OMG that makes me so sad! :(Hey, maaaaybe she can have a cougar romance. :) That thought makes me happy for her.

I always loved how JA, when asked if Mary Poppins and Bert ever got it on, reportedly said, "I certainly hope so."
Sally wrote: "Every holiday season I read A Little Princess, watch Planes Trains and Automobiles, Elf, Christmas Vacation, Gone with the Wind, and maybe if there is time, The Wire (as much of it as we can. Last..."Elf, esp. if my kids watch with me.
I have to be honest. I'm sick of A Christmas Story.
I watch at least 1 version of "A Christmas Carol" and "Miracle on 34th St." My sister in law watches "What a Wonderful Life". Since cannot drink hot cocoa...drink hot cider instead while watching favorite christmas movies.
Larry wrote: "Someone would have to tie me in the chair before I would sit through A Christmas Story again."I just saw the play a couple of weeks ago. It brought to light the things I didn't notice so much in the movie... esp. Dad's creative swear words. I loved 'em. And hey "Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian." never gets old.
Heidi wrote: ":)What'd I do to deserve a hug from you, Sally Louise?"
Wow. Your middle name is Louise! My youngest daughter is Emma Louise. Louise is underrated as a middle name. It is charming.
I've only see A Christmas Story once. I don't have any traditional Christmas day movie viewing. I think my dad usually had a football game on that day?

What do you watch/read/listen to year after year this time of year?
