~Sara~ | 171 comments I started this year with a few Jayne Ann Krentz novels partially due to the fact that I have a new ebook reader with many unread books of hers on it but also because I love her books!
I started with one of my favourite series, The Arcane Society, which mentioned an inn called Dreamscapes in Eclipse Bay which led to that trilogy. I liked them so much that as soon as I finished reading one, I started the next. Definitely something I could read again in the future!

~Sara~ | 171 comments I really need to keep better track of what I've read - I can't remember some of them! I think this is it.

5-Night Hawk 1/5***
A very short story between books 1&2 in the Elite Ops series. Not very memorable.

6-Sh*t My Dad Says 1/5****
A quick read but possibly one of the funniest I've ever read! I love this book!!!

7-Prufrock and Other Observations 1/7****
The first poems was fantastic, then there were a few that were like a human version of Cats followed by a couple more that were ok. Overall it was still really good.

8-The Scarlet Pimpernel 1/11***
This book was great right up until the end. The book was obviously dated, and all the better for it until then. The heroine was a little too helpless and the resolution felt incomplete. "It was all my fault." "No, I insist, it was my fault." and they lived happily ever after... Not so good for me. I will continue with the series regardless.

9-Fight Club 1/13****
This is very similar to the movie right up until the last paragraph where, I've got to say, I kind-of liked the way the movie ended better. The book was still great though, including the ending.

~Sara~ | 171 comments To finish up January I read:

10-Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek 1/16***
Very short and easy to read. While reading it I felt like I was having an episode of the show spelled out for me.

11-Wicked Intent 1/17***
I liked this one better than the last, even if it was 2 brothers sharing the same woman (ick), she was somehow able to make it less tasteless than it should have been.

12-Good Omens 1/23****
This story was great. Very fun and interesting characters and a fantastic plot/storyline.

13-To Kill a Mockingbird 1/24****
I think I'm one of the few people that didn't read this for school, so I started this book knowing nothing about it. It wasn't what I expected but I really enjoyed it. Reading the story from the perspective of a 6 year old made me look at it far differently than I think I would have if it was written in third person POV.

14-Animal Farm 1/25*****
I loved this book! I was amused, horrified, anxious, disgusted, angry, and just plain awed by the range of emotion that such a short story could make me feel.

15-Night Shadow (Night Tales #2) 1/28****
So cheesy but so fantastic. Batman gets his HEA.

16-Real Murders 1/28**
Still not a fan of Charlaine Harris. I find her heroine's to be really unlikeable.

17-Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption a Story from Different Seasons 1/30*****
I loved the movie and the book was every bit as fantastic. Not something I can usually say about Stephen King, but, as much as I hate his novels, his short stories are some of the best I've ever read. Maybe it's because he gets to the point!!!

18-One for the Money 1/30****
The start to the series was great. I think I'll appreciate the stories more starting from the beginning.

~Sara~ | 171 comments I started February with a Neil Gaimon book that I'd been wanting to read for a while and, although I liked it, I felt parts of it were lacking in details and the book needed a little more. Still a great concept and a fun, interesting read.
19-The Graveyard Book 2/2***

Ahhh, Pratchett - always good for a laugh. This one was funny, as I expected, but a little disjointed. There were a few times that the storyline jumped and lost me for a paragraph or two. A great start to the series none the less.
20-The Colour of Magic 2/4***

message 10: by ~Sara~ (last edited Mar 01, 2011 09:33PM) (new)

~Sara~ | 171 comments It's the first of March so it's time to figure out what all I read last month. Being away on vacation for a week really cut into my reading time but, aside from the bruised tailbone, it was worth it!

21-The Last Rogue 2/5****
I read this book a long time ago but the story stuck with me and I've been searching for almost a year to reread it. Somebody finally recognized it and I was able to find it online. Needless to say, I loved it still.

22-Archangel's Kiss 2/8****
Not my favourite PNR series but too unique to rate lower. sometimes the characters and the story annoy me a little but overall it's good.

23-Halfway to the Grave 2/9****
This was a great start to a new series but the ending was a little disappointing since it was lacking the HEA. It wasn't unhappy, just a "to be continued".

24-Crystal Singer 2/14***
Much better then Pern but the main character was a little promiscuous and a stereotypical, burn your bra, who needs men for more then the night hardcore feminist so I found her hard to relate to. Such a unique storyline though which is typical Anne McCaffrey.

25-Heart of Darkness 2/17***
There were parts of this book that were so beautifully written I gave it 3 stars even though I didn't particularly like the story.

26-Conversion 2/17***
This was a buddy read with Fran and having someone to discuss it with definitely upped my enjoyment. Not a bad story but a little slow. Sort of a chick-lit story about the developing relationship between a human and a part vampire.

27-Summer Knight 2/26****
I LOVE this series!!!

28-The Lion's Lady 2/27***
Meh. Pretty good but not memorable.

29-The E.S.P. Worm 2/27**
WTF! Some great elements hidden in a terrible story.

~Sara~ | 171 comments I started March with a buddy read with Fran. Although I didn't really like the book at first, the more we talked about it the more I began to like parts of it, but over all it wasn't something I'd read again.
30-The Perks of Being a Wallflower 3/3**

31-Slightly Shady 3/4****
I thought I'd read this book before but I don't really remember it. I remembered parts of the second in the series though so maybe I read it a long time ago or I was confusing it with the second. I liked it regardless - it was a typical Amanda Quick, fun but predictable.

32-Paying Up 3/9**
I had no clue what this was before reading it - it was in a Lora Leigh file and it was ok but didn't give me any desire to read the rest of the series. The guy was very dominant and the girl was "independent" but quickly submitted. Not a favourite storyline for me.

33-Don't Look Back 3/10***
The second book in the series (which is the one I'm pretty sure I read before) was good but the constant bickering of the heroine with the hero really started to get on my nerves. I started the third book but I think I need to take a break from Lake and March. Hopefully the third book has a little less.

34-Another Fine Myth 3/11****
I remember reading parts of this series as a young teenager but I don't remember anything about them so I've been collecting them to reread them. I really liked the start to the series; it's short, funny and the characters, though not really developed, are interesting. I'm hoping they get fleshed out as the series continues.

35-Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again 3/12**
They were parts of this book that I really enjoyed but unfortunately they were sandwiched amongst a whole lot of WTF!?!
I'm not familiar with a lot of comic book characters and this book had the entire DC universe drop in on it at one point or another which left me scratching my head wondering what the hell just happened more often then not. I really like how the public opinion shifted as the book progressed and seeing little bits of it as a sideline throughout the book.

36-Undead and Unpopular 3/12***
This one was good but nothing really seemed to happen. The 'climax' was just ok. It felt like a lot of filler then a rushed conclusion.

~Sara~ | 171 comments I haven't updated in a while so just a few thoughts on the rest of my reads for March:

37-Darkly Dreaming Dexter 3/15***
The tv show was way better than the book (I liked Bones better too - maybe it's just me?). Both the story and characters were better developed; Dexter was far more interesting and likeable, Deborah was more than just a bitch with boobs, Rita actually made a difference to the story, the past was far more interesting and there was a way better ending. I could continue but it's not really fair to compare a 300 page book to an entire season worth of content and character development so I'll just say that the book had some fantastic ideas that I'm glad the show was able to flesh out and breath life into.

38-Uniform Behaviour: Tempting the Law 3/16***
I don't remember what this was about so that should tell you something :)

39-The Maze 3/18***
Far better than the last book I read by this author (the god-awful bodice ripper that I abandoned after the "I'm in love with my rapist" plot was made clear), but not enough to make me read more.

40-A Scanner Darkly 3/21****
Weird but wonderful. Watched the movie after and it was a great companion to the book. I thoroughly enjoyed both!

41-Deadly Love 3/22***
Not bad, but I like Amanda Quick's quirky mysteries and heroines far better.

42-Running Hot 3/23***
A good edition to the Arcane Society series - just not a favourite.

43-One Foot in the Grave 3/25*****
Much more fulfilling than the first - Cat is really starting to grow on me and Bones is even more heart breakingly fabulous.

44-The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms 3/27***
A little flawed but entertaining if you really suspend disbelief and don't think too much about it.

45-Mrs. Miracle 3/27**
Boring and somewhat annoying.

46-A Short History of Nearly Everything 3/31****
Very interesting and ridiculously informative (as the title suggests). I can see myself rereading this annually.

~Sara~ | 171 comments Slow going for April. I'll need to catch up if I'm going to make my goal of 211!

47-From Hell 4/4*****
Wow! I need to order this book for my collection! This is something I'll have to read again soon since it's one of those stories that you miss a lot the first time you read it and don't fully appreciate the complexity until you've read it again. I also need to rewatch the movie even though I'm pretty sure it has almost nothing in common with this book. They definitely expanded Johnny Depp's character for the movie - but who can blame them! ;)

48-The Diamond Throne 4/6***
Not as good as the Belgariad despite the repetitive characters but still a good start to a series I'm sure I'll enjoy.

49-At Grave's End 4/8*****
Still fantastic, still in love!!!

message 16: by ~Sara~ (last edited Apr 16, 2011 11:27AM) (new)

~Sara~ | 171 comments Still slow but I'm trying to finish some of the half-read books I have on the go.

50-Book of a Thousand Days 4/12***
This is a retelling of a Grimm's fairy tale Maid Maleen. It has a great twist in that it's actually the story of the Lady's maid rather than the Lady's.

51-Extreme Exposure 4/14****
This reminded me of the Harlequin Intrigues I used to read when I was younger. It was good, but in an over the top, love at first sight, happily ever after, harlequin kind-of way. That won't stop me from reading every book in the series though!

52-Late for the Wedding 4/16***
Not as good as Quick's usual books - I think I prefer them to wrap up in one novel rather then prolong the agony the cheesy plot and crazy characters bring about. I love them but perhaps small doses are better!
