Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments Usually I only have enough time to review a book once.

But reading a few of my early reviews, I find they are a bit brief, and uninteresting.

Is this a no-no? Should I leave the reviews as is?

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I don't think I've ever re-written one, but I don't see why you shouldn't if you have more to say or have revised your opinions. I'm a big fan of re-writing and revising in general.

Sarah | 13814 comments I don't see any problem with it. If you feel bad about it, you can always just put a date on the first bit, and then update it with a new date and your new thoughts.

It is my review I choose to do what ever I like with it. At this stage I haven't re-written one. I have gone back and given them a little tidy up.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I have a couple of times if my opinion of the book has changed. Sometimes I'll read a book over and realize that it was much better (or even worse) than the first time I read it, so I'll go back and explain my before and after position.

My earlier reviews were very short, often one line or two. Needless to say, I've gotten wordier with time, but it doesn't make me want to go back and add on to old reviews at all.

If someone really feels the need to, I guess I don't mind, but what is annoying is seeing the same people's reviews coming through the feed over and over, trolling for votes.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Does that happen when you edit your review? My apologies to all my friends, I promise I wasn't trolling for votes. I was just tweaking.

message 8: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I think there's a little box at the bottom of the review pane that says something like "add this to my update feed." If you uncheck that box, then your review won't be sent around again if you simply wish to edit or rewrite a little, Gail. Unfortunately, it took me a while to figure that out myself...

I wish more people would see that box. I don't need to see everyone's post in every group they belong to. Sally, did your meatus picture go out to all and sundry?

ms.petra (mspetra) I don't like really long reviews that retell the book. I want to form my own opinion. Just give the gist of the story and what you like or didn't like without giving anything away. I hate spoilers. If you have a lot to say, go to a discussion board for that particular title.

Janice (jamasc) I did one rewrite.

As I was struggling to write one recently, I recalled the struggle I used to have writing book reviews in English. Unfortunately, I never did gain the skill and consequently, my reviews are short.

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1106 comments I add stuff, but underneath my earlier comments.

You would hate my reviews. I usually read long books (because history books tend that way) and I try to include what I think is important in my review. So they are long.

Félix (habitseven) Take control, Mary JL. Do it. It doesn't matter what anyone else here thinks. It really doesn't.

message 15: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I go back and add things. I try to remember to uncheck the box.

Never, not even under duress from a few unnamed authors who took umbrage with what I wrote.
