Lisarenee | 7659 comments This topic is open for discussions of things that seem to reoccur in books over and over again and we'd like to tell the authors enough already. It's been done one too many times. It was great the first few times, but it just isn't working for me anymore. Please, come up with something new and refreshing.

Sans I'm officially over the special/covert/black ops romances. I've read only a couple, but those were more than enough for me. Seriously, how many ex-Navy SEALs are really out there getting it on with beautiful women while solving some life-threatening situation for them? I think it's more likely to say those SEALs are suffering from PTSD and struggling to keep their marriages together.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I'm kind of over the giant spider, snake, etc. The funny thing is if you make it multiple giant spiders (like in Harry Potter), snakes, etc then it's creepy every time. Is that weird or what? Sounds like a Fannee Doolee situation from the TV show Zoom. She likes spoons but not sporks - why is that? FYI, she likes words with double letters.

Sans Thanks, Stacy!

Lisa, where have you been reading about giant arachnids and carnivorous reptiles outside of Harry Potter?

Sans I'm also getting tired of all the Amish & inspirational romances I keep seeing every time I turn around. I don't begrudge people who enjoy them, I really don't. But I need Amazon to STOP recommending them to me. Seriously? Why does their recommend bot think that I should read an Amish romance when I just ordered $30 worth of menage erotica? Is Amazon trying to judge my reading habits and want me to become a Christian who doesn't read the dirty smut?

Maybe it's all classified as romance, so it's not really a personal recommendation. Or, maybe everyone that reads Amish and inspirational romances also read menage erotica. So, they figure the reverse it true.

*snerk* I love that.

Yeah, I have these great recommendations for sci-fi and fantasy and erotica and historical romance and math books...and then the random Amish pops up. I keep "fixing" the recommendation to "not interested" but they keep coming back. Hey, maybe Amish romance is the zombie of the genre! It's trying to eat my brains and nothing less than a head blow will kill it dead.

Sashana Stick a fork in it! Love at first sight is so 2k5. So all you authors (and future authors) should actually work on developing a realistic storyline/relationship and leave the Cinderella tales for pre-schoolers.

Sashana Stick a fork in it, the whole werewolf-vampire love triangle done.

Giant spiders - one of our BOM has one and I remember some movies when I was a kid. Then there's Doctor who with the lady spider, but I exempt that one from having a fork stuck in it because adding a human element to any reptile, animal, etc adds ubercreepiness to the mix.

Giant snakes - Well there was the movie Anaconda and I know there were others. I can't think of any books right now, but I'm positive I've read some with them.

Kristen | 223 comments Wasn't there a giant spider in one of the Lord of the Rings books/movies?

There was a giant spider at least in the movie that tried to kill Frodo. It has been a while since I have read the books, so I can't remember if it was in there too or not.

message 14: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiemarie) There is also a giant spider in Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. But that might fit in your ubercreepy human element instead. =)

message 15: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I've never read a book with a creepy giant spider before.
