I really liked The Royal Tennenbaums. I didn't care for I Heart Huckabees except for the punching. I don't get how you can not get Pretty Woman. You can dislike it, but I doubt you didn't get it.

Paul Bryant Sorry, I think I should explain that I got Pretty Woman but I didn't get why it was loved rather than hated - see previous post for reasons. Perhaps it should have been on a different list - Movies I Wanted To Strangle At Birth.

Likewise Crazy Heart - you couldn't fail to get the messages of this movie, they used sledgehammers. The thing I did not get was why everyone fell at its feet when it was one dreary country cliche after another with no let up.

That's reasonable.

message 54: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (aquariusnat) I remember hearing that Pretty Woman was originally conceived as a drama , but the producers couldn't find support/investors for it . After they changed it to a chick/romcom Hollywood came running .

message 55: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I'd believe that. Hmm...I wonder how the non romcom version would go...

I want to see this.

Zen (zentea) | 515 comments I didn't get Pi. What was the point? It was so much like a lot of other movies but in a more obscure way.

message 58: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Why do women call their babies "stinker" or "stinka"?

I thought you meant me for a second, but you meant the movie Pi. I didn't get that one either.

Sarah | 13814 comments Britt-Britt wrote: "Why do women call their babies "stinker" or "stinka"?"

I'm with Britt on this one. Also, there was a woman at my old barn who used to call all the horses Stinky Butt, and it drove me crazy. Leave them some dignity.

Lori D (dewsydaisy) | 60 comments My friend and I tried to watch the movie Aeon Flux a long time ago and we had to turn it off it was so bad. We could not follow it for the life of ourselves. We were so confused and had no idea what was going on.

Also I got really bored and therefore confused with The Nineth Gate. (Confused because it couldn't hold my attention long enough to understand it)

Sarah | 13814 comments I liked Aeon Flux, but welcome anyway :)

message 64: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments welcome to TC Lori. Never saw Aeon Flux. Didn't seem like my kind of movie. loved "The Ninth Gate" although it was a little slow in parts.

message 65: by Lori (new)

Lori D (dewsydaisy) | 60 comments Yea it was good at the begining but somewhere in between when it got slow my sttention drifted and I got lost. Maybe I'll try to watch it again some time. It was also a late night movie so I was probably really tired when I started it anyways.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments The Bourne Identity

I'm confused as to how someone could hate this. Maybe not like it, maybe think it's meh, but it doesn't seem to be worth hating.

message 67: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments RA, guess you do not care for thriller/spy genre? Personally, I read it...was meh..readable. Not something to write home about. The mini series w/Richard Chamberlain was good though.

message 68: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments No, I liked the movie.

I also loathed this POS flick, but I understood it very well.

I got Pi, and I loved it. Darren Aronofsky is a genius. Max, a number theorist, is obsessed with finding The Answer, the string of numbers that explains everything in nature. As he gets closer to The Answer, he of course spirals deeper into insanity.

They made a movie about Life of Pi? And it was by Aronofsky? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

Oh wait, are we talking about the serial killer movie? That was good. Was that about serial killers? I seem to remember it. Or maybe that was Zodiac.

*wanders away muttering*

message 74: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments zodiac was about a serial killer, i haven't seen pi.

does that help?

message 75: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Maybe.

I also did not LIKE (and maybe just didn't get but I think it wasn't that deep) Shutter Island. LAME!

Sarah | 13814 comments janine wrote: "zodiac was about a serial killer, i haven't seen pi."

I'm right here, but I haven't killed anyone, I promise.

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments Oh! Solaris. I didn't get that one, either.

That movie sucked for me because my kid told me what happened before we turned it on. It was pretty boring anyway, and even if I hadn't known the outcome it would have only been mediocre.

message 79: by Ken (new)

Ken (playjerist) | 721 comments “I’m Not There,” is a fascinating idea on paper. On film it’s just lamentable. And I don’t want Cate Blanchett dressing up like a man for any reason. Besides that, the period of Dylan’s life she portrays is conveyed vividly by Dylan himself in the classic D.A. Pennebaker documentary, “Don’t Look Back.”

Lost in Translation is a favorite of mine. Sofia Coppola films really are designed as atmospheric, fly-on-the-wall experiences in which the spell they create is the most enjoyable aspect and interest really is between the lines. And I believe there should be prison time for anyone failing to appreciate the small wonders of In Bruges.

Garden variety action films or thrillers by and large hold little appeal for me, but Bourne Identity was well written and adroitly made.

Félix (habitseven) Yes of course. I have not seen that one -- but I trust your judgement.

What a chore to sit through.

Dream stealers? Freddy Krueger did it better, quicker, simpler, and with a minimal amount of fuss.

message 87: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I just watched it and thought it was a pretty stylish SF thriller.
SPOILER BELOW

My father insisted that during the credits you could hear the little top stop spinning and fall over. Did anyone else hear that?
