I started the tour, which suggested turning the power button off and then on again. Now my nook has been "starting up" for more than 5 minutes. :-( Surely this isn't how it usually works?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It takes mine usually a couple of minutes at least to start up.

Luckily, you should never have to turn the thing off again, unless for some reason you have to do a reset. The device is meant to sit in sleep mode when not in use.

Tamra Mine usually starts up after a minute, but like Stacia, I never turn it off. Hopefully this is just a first time thing.

I managed to restart it.

I'm feeling really frustrated. Nothing I'm doing seems to be working. I ordered books and they haven't downloaded to the Nook. I tried to register it per the instruction but it seems to be already registered. I guess I should delete the registration and try again.

Okay, that seems to have done the trick.

Tamra Did you get the Nook color? I'm glad it's working. I've never had any tech issues with Nook 3g. If it keeps acting up, take it to B&N. They will help you there. Good luck!

No, just the regular one. It was a good deal. Thanks for the advice, hope I won't need to use it!

Sara (sarajoybrown) | 12 comments I have had a few problems with mine as well - I've had to hard reboot it a few times, to the point of calling in for help, even, because the two things that it said to do in the manual didn't work! It's not so bad, though, Willaful - what I was told is that if the battery gets completely depleted it can do that, so it's best not to let the battery go completely dead (which I find totally opposite of EVERY other electronic device I know, but since that's what I was told, I've never let it go completely empty, and I've never had a problem again). I love my Nook in spite of those problems, and even really want the new one, so hang in there with it. By the way, sometimes when you buy new books, they don't show up right away - you might have to go to "My Library" and click on "Search for New B&N Content" in order for it to find your new books, but then they should come up, no problem. Hope that helps!

Christine US (christineus) | 18 comments I accidentally let mine drain the battery entirely one time, and it took forever to restart once I gave it a charge. Ever since then, I've been really good about charging it each night. But it is heart-stopping when it just won't turn on! I was afraid I broke it.
