Jennifer (jml_417) Do you do any reading challenges here on goodreads? Or, have you set any reading goals for 2011?

Jennifer (jml_417) I used to do the Seasonal Reading Challenge, but each challenge was only 3 months long. I had so many books I wanted to read and felt limited by the time frame - I always felt that I wasn't reading what I really wanted to. But, to be fair, I was exposed to some books I never would have read had it not been for the challenges.

Right now, I'm doing the Around The World in 80 Books challenge on the The Next Best Book Club board. It started on October 1st of this year and ends September 30th in 2011. The goal is to read 80 books from 80 different countries over the year. I'm really enjoying it!

For 2011, I'm doing a TBR challenge with the The Book Addicts! group. For this one, you chose 12 books (plus 2 alternates) from your TBR (published 2009 and earlier) and read them over the year.

My personal goals for 2011 are to read at least 12 classics and 12 non-fiction books - all of which I can work into the challenges I'm in.

Mary | 236 comments My primary reading goal for 2011 will be what it is every year -- to read MORE BOOKS! My reading time somehow gets lost in the shuffle of life and I end up having read waaaay fewer books at the end of the year than most of you. I really want to reprioritize and increase that number!

I feel the same way Mary. I get so discouraged with the lack of time to sit down and read. Hoping life will take a turn for the more mundane this coming year and I can cozy up with a good book more often.

Carol (actutor) I'm in the same boat. I wish I could read more books, so I can start to empty my bookshelves.

message 6: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments In theory I SHOULD be emptying my bookshelves by reading the books in them, but there are two reasons why that doesn't happen: (1) I'm sentimentally attached to even the ones I've read so it's almost impossible to let most of them go, and (2) by that time I've brought several more into the house that need to find a shelf to live on. ACK!!

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments I haven't set any goals for 2011 yet. I was mentioning the other day that I was upset I wasn't going to hit 100 books this year. So maybe that will be my goal! I think I am also going to have to check out some of these other boards and do a challenge or two. I really want to read more non-fiction next year too!

message 8: by Liz (new)

Liz I still do the A-Z New Authors challenge each year, although I have given myself permission to skip "X" if I don't find anything new. I was just realizing the other day that I didn't try to do the "genre" challenge - I'll have to check my book list & see how I've done. I too would like to read more, although I probably read more than I should already. My house suffers. But the strange thing is that I seem to have read more books each year when I was working than I have since I retired. Of course, I've done more stitching, so I suppose its a trade-off.

message 9: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I like to make a goal of reading 25 books from my shelf that have been there more than a few years. Last year I did it, but this year I'm only at 9 so far.

message 10: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) I am always defeated by goals.

message 11: by Theresa (new)

Theresa My only challenge--ever--is to find and read good books!

I think 10 books might be my goal

Julie | 59 comments I'm new to Goodreads but not to reading challenges!

I think my 2011 challenge will be to clear my personal bookshelves of 15 titles and pass them on.

I got a Nook for my early Christmas present so my goal there is to only get books for it that I borrow or buy with gift cards.

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I usually try to do every challenge in the groups I am in. I usually do pretty good at them, but not always.

My goal for this year was 144, but I hit that in early September, Then I went for 200, but I'm at 198 now. So i guess next year my goal will be 225.
